Today’s impeachment hearings, although being heralded by the Democrats as earth-shattering, is yawn-worthy at best.
Gordon Sondland is going to say what Gordon Sondland is going to say, particularly as it pertains to keeping himself out of jail. The fact that he has suddenly and irrevocably adjusted his testimony to reflect his newfound interest in self-preservation is unsurprising, as a wealthy hotelier who, at this point, would like to just go home.
But there was at least one bombshell so far today, in that the GOP is taking the next steps in calling some major witnesses to the stand.
“The American people understand how you have affirmatively prevented Republicans from examining serious issues directly relevant to the issues,” the two GOP lawmakers told Schiff in their letter. “Therefore, to provide some basic level of fairness and objectivity to your ‘impeachment inquiry,’ we intend to subpoena the anonymous whistleblower and Hunter Biden for sworn testimony in closed-door depositions.”
Nunes and Jordan added that they plan to subpoena the whistleblower’s documents and communications regarding the complaint, the records surrounding Hunter Biden’s role on the board of the Ukrainian energy company Burisma Holdings and the Democratic National Committee’s communications with Ukrainian officials and records relating to Alexandra Chalupa.
The Democratic defense of this latest move will be a predictable one, as they will almost certainly diffuse this issue from the point of their impeachment, claiming that Burisma and the Biden connection are outside the scope of their narrowly-defined rules.
The American people, however, deserve more.Don't forget to Like Freedom Outpost on Facebook and Twitter, and follow our friends at RepublicanLegion.com.
