The state of California has done everything in their power to curb gun violence over the course of several decades, but today we face a stark reminder that evil will find a way, no matter what legal obstacles you put in front of it.
Gilroy, California’s annual garlic festival was going off without a hitch this weekend, with locals and tourists alike sampling some of the world’s tastiest – and strangest – concoctions, all flavored with one of the most pungent foods in the world. Against all odds, many festival goers swear that the garlic ice cream is the show-stealer, and illustrates the grand diversity of the plant.
This year, however, no one will be talking about the ice cream. They will only be talking about the carnage.
A 6-year-old boy was among the victims, according to NBC Bay Area..
The gunman was shot and killed minutes after the attack began, Gilroy Police Chief Scot Smithee said.
As details emerged, it became apparent that the tragedy could be far from over.
Initial reports said the shooter entered the festival area from a creek area outside of Christmas Hill Park, where the festival was held.
Smithee said the shooter used some type of tool to cut through a fence to get into the festival, avoiding the metal detectors and other security.
Police said a manhunt was underway for a second person with suspected ties to the attack. A description was not released.
“We believe based on witness statements that there was a second individual involved in some way,” Smithee said at a 10 p.m. news conference. “We just don’t know in what way.”
During the ordeal, a witness relayed a terrifying exchange that once festival-goer had with the shooter.
After screaming at the assailant, asking “why are you doing this?”, the suspect simply shouted back, “because I’m really angry”.Don't forget to Like Freedom Outpost on Facebook and Twitter, and follow our friends at RepublicanLegion.com on Instagram.
