Store shelves are emptying in Florida, Georgia, South Carolina and North Carolina as a category 5 hurricane is set to slam into the East Coast.
Hurricane Matthew is set on course to cause significant damage to the Sunshine State as projections have the hurricane hitting Florida in two sweeping passes.
The destruction is not just limited to Florida though. Georgia, South Carolina, and North Carolina are also expecting serious damage. In fact, my home State of South Carolina is in the process of evacuating more than a million people. One man was shot and killed Wednesday evening in an altercation over an evacuation route.
The Associated Press reports:
“I cannot emphasize enough that everyone in our state must prepare now for a direct hit,” Gov. Rick Scott said in a Wednesday press conference. “If Matthew directly impacts Florida, there will be massive destruction that we haven’t seen in years. This is a deadly storm approaching our state.”
“Failure to adequately shelter may result in serious injury, loss of life or immense human suffering.”
Mandatory evacuation orders were also in effect for Brevard County’s Merritt Island, barrier islands and low-lying areas, and in St. Johns County, low-lying areas and barrier islands will be ordered to evacuate on Thursday.
Voluntary evacuations are currently in place for parts of numerous other counties; the Florida Division of Emergency Management has a complete list. In total, about 1.5 million Floridians have been ordered or urged to move away from the coast…
Many will choose to remain in their homes or be unable to evacuate. Florida Governor Rick Scott has urged them to prepare for several days, even weeks should they lose power and water.
If you’re not in an area advised to evacuate, plan for adequate supplies in case you lose power & water for several days. #Matthew

However, shelves are emptying quickly of bottled water and other supplies.
Bread shelves also were bare.
There are also issues with finding sandbags too. Take a look at the lines to acquire them, as some places have already run out.

The time for prepping should have been long ago. Now, many of the people seeking to prep are left with few options.
