I'll be writing a follow up to this piece to point out the hypocrisy of the Communists in government who want us to jump through all sorts of hoops for permission to exercise our right to keep and bear arms while those entrusted with enforcing the law, who go through such measures are given weapons and yet, many of them commit the kinds of crimes outlined in this article. A Flordia sheriff's deputy murdered his wife, daughter and granddaughter before taking his own life on Wednesday.
Hillsborough County, Florida sheriff’s deputy and 2009 "Officer of the Year" Terry Strawn, 58, killed himself after murdering his wife Theresa, 54, and granddaughter Londyn, 6, in their home and then traveling to another house to murder his daughter, Courtney Strawn.
In his last radio transmission at 6:30am before committing the crimes, Strawn told his colleagues that his "depression was real."
Sheriff Chad Chronister said in a news conference that he loved working for the sheriff's department but struggled with personal issues.
“During his radio transmission, [he] wanted to make sure that we all took care of each other, that we knew that depression was real,” Chronister said. "[He] alluded to the fact that he was struggling with some health and financial issues."
“He indicated that he was losing everything and at one point said that he had to go,” the sheriff added. “He appreciated all the help, but he had to go. He wanted to go be with his family.”
At least three deputies tried to talk Strawn out of suicide, but ultimately, he shot himself in front of them near a local high school.
The Tampa Bay Times reports:
Strawn was named an Officer of the Year in 2009. Sheriff’s officials cited his work in removing dangerous criminals from the streets.
"Deputy Strawn is persistent, leaving no stone unturned in his pursuit of the lawbreakers," then-Sheriff David Gee said. "Recently he arrested a fugitive and an armed robbery suspect after a traffic stop. His high rate of success in the location and capture of numerous suspects has earned him this year's top honor in east Hillsborough County."
Though the couple had filed for bankruptcy in 2011, the Times pointed out:
In a petition, they estimated their assets at less than $50,000 with liabilities greater than that. Among the assets, they listed a Jeep, two trucks, a boat, and a 9mm Smith & Wesson firearm. But court records show they qualified for a mortgage and bought a house earlier this year.
The Times also reported:
Strawn retired about two years ago, Chronister said. But he was re-hired over the summer as part of a sheriff’s partnership with the Hillsborough County School District to improve security in local elementary schools.
The program was created in response to a new law passed after February’s mass shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland. The Sheriff’s Office pledged to recruit and train more than 100 officers for elementary schools, providing 132 hours of comprehensive firearms safety and proficiency training.
Things were going so well in Strawn’s new assignment that the agency recently decided to hire him back permanently, Chronister said.
Everyone has difficulties in their lives, that's no reason to take your life or the lives of those around you. Yes, depression is real. Of that, there is no doubt, but the sheriff's office knew of his troubles and probably should have helped a lot earlier on with counseling rather than putting this man out on the street and in the public schools.
However, you won't hear this in the mainstream for the most part, because they and government are all about keeping government armed and pushing to disarm you and me.Don't forget to Like Freedom Outpost on Facebook, Google Plus, & Twitter.
