In another demonstration of why the Communists in this country who promote unconstitutional gun confiscation legislation are absolutely wrong, the story of an FBI agent, who was doing a dance move on a dance floor in Colorado, did a backflip, lost his gun and went to retrieve it and fired it, hitting a man in the leg has pled guilty and will receive no jail time.
The story was reported nationally and the video went viral. Here's CBS's report from June 2018.
The shooting took place at the Mile High Spirits and Distillery, which in many parts of the country, government criminalizes citizens for carrying their weapons into because they serve alcohol, but of course, agents of the state are immune from those "laws," aren't they?
The Denver Post reports:
Under his deal with prosecutors, Chase Bishop, 30, immediately was sentenced to two years probation. He was also fined $1,200 and ordered to pay restitution to the victim. Denver District Judge Karen Brody cited Bishop’s lack of criminal history in her decision to accept the plea agreement.
Bishop had pleaded not guilty last month to a second-degree assault charge in connection with the June 2 incident.
“My whole goal in life is to care, protect and serve people,” Bishop told the judge on Friday. “I never expected the result of my actions to lead to something like this.”
FBI spokeswoman Kelsey Pietranton declined to say if he would continue to work at the agency.
Of course, he'll continue to work there, including during his time of probation in Georgia.
Tom Reddington, 24, the man who was shot, spoke in court saying he lost his job at an Amazon warehouse following the shooting and may never be able to run again.
"I have done months of physical therapy," Reddington said. "I have sought counseling. However, being in public, especially seeing law enforcement with guns, makes me very uncomfortable."
Reddington acknowledges the shooting was an accident and that Bishop didn't mean to shoot him.
“I’ve done stupid things at bars to impress girls, too,” Reddington said.
He said he hoped Bishop didn’t “carry a gun for a long time.”
Look, I get things can happen to all of us, but obviously, this agent didn't have a holster that would retain his weapon doing things like this and he should have been familiar enough to either put the gun somewhere else, not engage in the backflip, and certainly not put his finger on the trigger in retrieving it.
However, if you notice, in the video, after firing it into the crowd, he seems to have no concern at all about the possibility that he may have struck someone with a bullet. To me, that is more of an indication of Bishop's complete disregard for the public that he is supposed to serve than anything. He simply throws his hands up and walks away.
Rest assured, any of us that did that would have been facing jail time. We may have even spent the night in jail, not that that is any kind of justice.
At least he is required to pay restitution to the victim, which is a form of justice here, but seeing that this man lost his job and may never run again, the restitution should be pretty steep.
This is just another example of those in law enforcement who go through background checks, are given weapons, carry them and then either accidentally fire them like this with complete disregard for victims or purposefully use them to commit a crime against a member of the public.
