DNC Chair Predictably Lies About Mass Shootings

Democratic National Committee chair Debbie Wasserman “Medusa” Schultz (D-FL) recently made some incredibly unbelievable comments regarding mass shooting numbers, and now she’s been outed once again as the liar she is.

Wasserman Schultz claimed that “380 Americans have been killed in 294 mass shootings in 2015 alone.” But is that true?

Of course, it isn’t. First, consider that at mass shooting has been defined by the FBI similarly to a mass murder involving at least four or more persons shot or fatalities.

Politifact, whom, I confess, we had to deal with in several conversations so that they got their story straight concerning Obamacare codes (and also refuted their “Pants-on-fire” label of Obamacare forced home invasions), claims that Wasserman Schultz used a “broad definition of what most people consider a mass shooting.”

The site reported:

Wasserman Schultz’s spokesman said she was citing a report in the Washington Post’s Wonkblog, which stated that the Oregon shooting brought the total of mass shootings this year to 294.

The statistic came from Mass Shooting Tracker, a crowdsourced site, which defines mass shooting as any in which four or more people are shot at, regardless of whether they die or are injured. But that definition is more broad than some other definitions, which we will get into later.

Interestingly enough, the owner of the site the information was garnered from is owned by Brock Weller of Portland, Oregon, who claims the site isn’t political yet, he supports gun control.

So, how did Politifact handle this?

The federal government’s more restrictive definition means it tends to count fewer incidents than Mass Shooting Tracker. Using 2013, the most recent year for which federal data is available, the Congressional Research Service found 25 mass shooting incidents — far less than the 363 counted by Mass Shooting Tracker.

We looked for 2015 data for the federal definition of mass shootings, but it isn’t yet available. Based on its definitions, we would expect the total to be significantly lower than Mass Shooting Tracker, but we can’t say by how much.

USA Today has been tracking the data and found approximately 18 mass killings by firearms so far in 2015.

So, let’s clear things up here. Wasserman Schultz claimed 380 Americans have been killed in 294 mass shootings in 2015 and took Mass Shooting Tracker as her source, but Mass Shooting Tracker said 379 were killed in 296 mass shootings. So, she isn’t even citing the numbers correctly.

Furthermore, Politifact points to the discrepancies between the 2013 Congressional Research Service numbers of such incidents, 25, with that of Mass Shooting Trackers, 363. They then pointed out the USA Today mass killings in America had only been 18 by guns.

Yet, Politifact claimed, “The claim is partially accurate but takes things out of context. We rate this claim Half True.”

It’s not half true. It’s a lie from start to finish. DWS didn’t get the numbers right even from her source. She has to know she is bolstering the numbers and doesn’t follow the method that even the FBI or the Congressional Research Service follows to determine mass shootings.

Like other anti-gunning communists, such as Michael Bloomberg’s useful idiot Shannon Watts, who lied about Americans’ support for more background checks, Wasserman Schultz will continue to push the agenda against the Constitution rather than support and defend its protections regarding the right to keep and bear arms.
