Did Rand Paul Scare the Air Force into Erasing Drone Strike Data?

The Foreign Policy blog is reporting that there is clear evidence the Air Force responded to Rand Paul’s filibuster by trying to get rid of data previously published online.  Silly, silly, people. Nothing on the internet ever really goes away. The blog writes,

“Quietly and without much notice, the Air Force has reversed its policy of publishing statistics on drone strikes in Afghanistan as the debate about drone warfare hits a fever pitch in Washington. In addition, it has erased previously published drone strike statistics from its website.”

The blog  features screen shots that prove the Air Force has stopped providing certain statistics.

The Pentagon apparently claims it had nothing to do with the change in policy, and the big-shots at the Air Force are not taking questions at this time. It’s the timing of the thing that smells fishy. See, Rand Paul sent Brennan a letter threatening his filibuster (which he eventually performed; and it’s always nice to see a politician keeping his word) unless Brennan came forward with administration policy clarification for the use of drone strikes on American soil, against American citizens.  Two days after the letter, suddenly some folks are squeamish about broadcasting their kill numbers for the drones in use overseas. Let’s act like that’s not really a big deal.
