The Democrats have long wished to see the Second Amendment abolished, repealed, or, at the very least, infringed upon to a crippling degree. They see gun violence as gun-incited violence, not violence that happened to involve a gun.
And so they legislate as if the gun itself was the impetus of the problem. They believe that making guns illegal will stop people from finding and using firearms in their crimes. They ignore that there is any premeditation to these crimes, and that they would have occurred regardless of the gun laws in place.
The most poignant examples are shootings within “gun free zones”, where the criminal assailant is not only breaking the law against murder, but also the law regarding the restriction of firearms in that particular area. Which do you think they are concerned with, if any?
But the left will never succeed in a full repeal of the right to bear arms; Americans simply won’t allow that to happen. Instead, the left will peck and poke away at the Second Amendment until owning a gun is such a hassle that it becomes its own deterrent.
Their latest push for background checks on ammunition purchases is exactly that.
Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz (D-FL) and 21 state attorneys general are pushing for Congressional action to secure background checks for ammunition sales.
The NRA-ILA reports the idea is the brainchild of Schultz, who wants all retail bullet sales to go through the same background check as retail gun sales.
Schultz’s bill, H.R. 1705, states:
