Finally! We have a real, true blue leader of the Democrat Party admitting that pushing Obamacare on the American people was a BAD idea. Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) apparently decided that now was the time to speak candidly with the American people – because he sure took the Obama team by surprise – when he admitted in a speech at the National Press Club that the Democrats should not have forced through Obamacare in 2009. He said that Democrats “blew the opportunity the American people gave them” by focusing all their efforts on Obamacare when what the American people wanted them to focus on was the economy.
“After passing the stimulus, Democrats should have continued to propose middle class-oriented programs and built on the partial success of the stimulus. Americans were crying out for an end to the recession, for better wages and more jobs; not for changes in their healthcare.”
Schumer then went on to mention that 85 percent of all Americans got their healthcare from either the government, through Medicare or Medicaid, or through an employer, “So when Democrats focused on healthcare, the average middle class person thought, ‘the Democrats are not paying enough attention to me.’ “
Schumer didn’t stop there, either – he went on to say that “To aim huge change at such small percentage of electorate made no political sense.”
Well, No Freaking Kidding, Mr. Schumer.
This last point is exactly what Republicans have been saying since this whole Obamacare mess got started! At most, there were maybe 30 Million uninsured Americans out there – which is roughly 10% of the population – why would we change the way 280+ Million Americans get their healthcare for just 30 million people? Instead, we argued lets make smaller changes to get those uninsured folks covered!
BUT NO! The Democrat Party smelled blood with their majority in the House, their Super-Majority in the Senate, and their man in the White House, and they went for America’s figurative throat. The force-fed us Obamacare – even though most Americans were against it – without a single Republican vote in either the House or the Senate. Not one Republican signed on to the most important piece of legislation in some 50 years… that should have been all the warning the Democrats (and America) needed. This was a bad idea from the word go.
Wanting to get in on the prescience of the Republican Party, Schumer added that back in 2009 he was privately telling other Democrats (behind the scenes) that pushing through Obamacare was a bad idea and that instead they should be focused on jobs and the economy.
Welcome to the party, Chuck. We conservatives have been here for over 6 years telling you and your Party that government takeover of the Healthcare industry was a bad idea. We’re glad that you’re finally willing to admit that we were right all along…Facebook and Twitter, and follow our friends at RepublicanLegion.com.
