Days After Capitulating to China, LeBron James Disses US National Anthem

Professional athletes seem to have lost the point of it all as of late.

You see, Americans turn to sports as an escape from the world around them.  The purity of the contests contained within those arenas, stadiums, and coliseums is part of our decompression ritual.  We throw our cares to the wind, hoping to focus instead on the competition of our fellow human beings who, at the very top of their game, provide us with drama, action, excitement, and escape.

Each competition is a movie of sorts, if you are enough of a fan to recognize the changes in the game plan, or to know when the person playing the lead role is in trouble.  Sports are where we go when everything else is on fire.  These contests are meant to be a safe haven for us from the outside stressors of the world.

LeBron James of the NBA is no exception.

Earlier this month, James inexcusably came out swinging for the authoritarian Communist regime in China, essentially telling the world that American free speech can be troublesome for the NBA, given just how much money the league makes in the Far East.

As James took to the court for one of the first games of the 2019-2020 season this week, his actions during the National Anthem have now sparked even more concern about his allegiances.

Twitter users were not happy.

Given just how well the NFL’s anthem-trashing antics have gone over, it will be interesting to see whether or not the NBA suffers the same sort of financial hardships due to this behavior.
