Convicted Islamic Jihadi Mulumebet Girma – Jailed for Helping Subway Bombers – Gets Top Council Job, Then Gets Sacked

Mulumebet Girma, a 33-year-old convicted Islamic jihadi received a top council job, but then was sacked from the job when her conviction came to light.  It obviously makes one question if people even care these days who they vote for or to whom they give a job.

This could have been dealt with before it even became a story if someone had have taken just a couple of minutes to Google “Mulumebet Girma.”

Mulumebet Girma, 33, joined Southwark Council after colleagues failed to realise she was linked to one of the country’s most notorious attacks.

The Ethiopian former model rose through the ranks and was even put on the cover of a council magazine to promote its apprenticeship scheme.

Her employment raises questions about what measures are taken to vet staff, some of whom have access to databases of vulnerable people.

One of 40 apprentices taken on that year, she eventually got a permanent job at the council’s Peckham office.

Well, just how many of these 40 are jihadis?  How can anyone in that area be sure the the council is not putting the community in jeopardy by hiring other jihadis or criminals?  Apparently, there is no answer.

Eleanor Kelly, chief executive of Southwark Council, said: “As soon as her background came to light we took immediate action and terminated her employment.

“She did not disclose her full offence to the council. During her employment this individual never had access to police watch list data.”

She said the council had “fully reviewed her activity while she was employed at the council… and no wrongdoing was uncovered”.

“We have also undertaken a robust review of our processes and procedures in light of this incident.”

Can we be sure these people did a full review?  After all, a 10-year stint in the pokey for Islamic terrorism is a pretty substantial thing to consider when you are employing someone, and they obviously missed that or ignored it.  It is England after all.

Girmawas found guilty of assisting an offender by helping Osman escape to Brighton and failing to disclose information about Osman’s involvement in the attempted attacks.

The Telegraph reported on what happened.

Osman, along with Muktar Said Ibrahim, Yassin Omar, and Ramzi Mohammed, tried to detonate rucksacks laden with explosives on three Underground trains at Shepherd’s Bush station, Oval station and Warren Street station, together with a bus in Hackney Road, killing themselves and passengers, but the bombs failed to go off.

The attempted attacks came two weeks after four suicide bombers struck in central London, killing 52 people and injuring more than 770.

They were jailed for life in July 2007 after being convicted at London’s Woolwich Crown Court of conspiracy to murder.

At their trial, the four had maintained that the events of July 21 were an elaborate hoax designed to protest against and draw attention to Britain’s role in the attack upon and occupation of Iraq.

She was sentenced alongside her sister Yeshi Girma, who is Osman’s wife.

Her solicitors said in a statement, according to the BBC, that Girma’s conviction “stemmed entirely from a familial relationship” and she “condemns all terrorism.”

“She disclosed her convictions in her application to Southwark Council, both in writing and orally, and subsequently had a successful career which has now been destroyed for no purpose,” the statement said.

No purpose?  These people can’t be serious, but they are.

At least they terminated her when they “found out,” or should I say, when the media started to expose her past.
