Compromiser in Chief

Yes, he can be loud and brash. Oh, not like The Donald, but he will get in the face of the opposition… and then compromise with them.

I am, of course, speaking of the still rotund New Jersey governor, Chris Christie, who is one of the few Republican governors at the helm of a failing state. And why is his state in such disrepair? Sure, it’s run by a majority Democrat legislature and has been for years, but there’s another reason. It’s called compromise and it appears to be one of the cornerstones of Christie’s presidential platform.

Oh, he’s going to “tell it like it is,” even though the correct expression is to “tell it as it is.”

During his kickoff speech he said, “Both parties have failed the country,” and he’s right about that. He then goes on to claim that this country was built on compromise – “that somehow now compromise is a dirty word. If Washington and Adams and Jefferson believed compromise was a dirty word, we’d still be under the crown of England!”

Huh? I wasn’t aware of the founders motivation for crafting the Declaration of Independence, with its long list of grievances against the crown, was a compromise.

From the Declaration: “But when a long train of abuses and usurpations, pursuing invariably the same Object evinces a design to reduce them under absolute Despotism, it is their right, it is their duty, to throw off such government, and to provide new guards for their future security. Such has been the patient sufferance of these colonies…”

Does this sound like a people willing to compromise? I think not! And those who signed the Declaration knew they were signing a de facto death warrant. I don’t think you’d find a lot of aisle crossers in that bunch.

So where, at this point, do we compromise with an increasingly radical left? Is there a single issue today that conservatives and liberals can find common ground? I guess the governor seems to think so, but I sure don’t see it.

Of course I don’t see it, because I’m a conservative and Christie is a big government, progressive Republican. Christie, like all establishment types, takes great pride in reaching across the aisle to work with Democrats.

And isn’t it funny that not a single Democrat ever says he or she must reach out to Republicans in order to “get things done.” Their whole strategy is to push their agenda and hold out until the right folds and “reaches across the aisle.”

I guess it would be easy to say you are a man who gets things done if all you ever do is give ground and agree to Democrat terms. Anyone can do that.

Well, the days of reaching across the aisle and compromising are over, or should be. We are just too far apart and growing further every year. We need a candidate who is willing to go to war with the left, to defeat them, and stop giving ground. We have no ground left to give.

We’ve given ground on education, healthcare, immigration, the environment, states’ rights, and drugs. We’ve allowed them to spend us into oblivion, downsize and dilute our military with their wacky social experiments. We sit back and watch as they bastardize the word gender, adding dozens of ridiculous classifications. And now they’ve corrupted marriage.

So, Mr. Christie, I’m all ears. Tell me what’s left for us to give away. What is it that you and others like you haven’t already compromised away on our behalf?

We neither want nor need you in this party any longer. The next time you cross the aisle, why don’t you take a seat and stay there.
