Chicago Mayor wields digital weaponry in attempt to thwart ICE raids

President Trump’s attempts to enforce US immigration law have come under enhanced scrutiny in recent months, thanks to the narrow narrative of “the resistance”.

Suddenly, due only to the fact that Trump is the instigator, Obama-era policies and procedures are coming under fire.  Migrant detention centers, family separation, and ICE raids were all a part of the Obama administration’s immigration playbook, but, for some unknown reason, President Trump’s push to enforce the law using these longstanding tactics has sent progressive political supporters running around like chickens who’ve lost their heads.

Of course, just because Obama did it doesn’t make it right, and the family separation maneuver in particular has been lambasted by Americans of all political stripes.

Raids conducted by Immigration and Customs Enforcement, however, are a different story.  These legal actions are not targeting families seeking asylum, but rather individuals who have no interest in legally naturalizing themselves in America.

Across the country, local officials in liberal locales have been using the tools at their disposal to inconvenience and stymy ICE officers.  The latest example of this comes from Chicago.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot (D) said Wednesday that the Windy City has made moves to bar Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) from accessing its police databases amid reports of potential raids in more than 10 major U.S. cities slated for Sunday.

“They will not team up with ICE to detain any resident. We have also cut off ICE access from any CPD databases and that will remain permanent,” Lightfoot said. “Chicago is and will always be a welcoming city that will never tolerate ICE tearing our families apart.”

And that’s not all…

In a statement to the Chicago Tribune, police spokesman Anthony Guglielmi said the city’s Citizen and Law Enforcement Analysis and Reporting (CLEAR) database will not be available to ICE officials, though several federal government agencies will still have access.

“All other federal agencies still have access to these systems, as sharing this information is crucial to active criminal investigations in which we are partnering with federal agencies along with intelligence sharing functions that are vital to national homeland security functions,” Guglielmi stated.

President Trump has indicated that ICE raids are set to take place in several major cities over the weekend.
