Despite the fact that the Democrats are still carrying on with their overcrowded 2020 primary, it’s going to be hard to envision a situation in which former Vice President Joe Biden is not the nominee. The left is just far too concerned with beating Donald Trump at the polls that they won’t risk putting an ultra-progressive or even a socialist on the ticket against the NYC business mogul-turned-DC wrecking ball that is Donald Trump.
Well, at least that’s what the party seems to need. In reality, the party’s hard left turn has become a nightmare for the centrists in the room, particularly in states that Biden should be polling well in like South Carolina.
A new poll released on Thursday by Change Research and The Post and Courier found the former vice president with only a seven-point advantage over his nearest challenger, Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT). Biden led the 2020 field with 27 percent among South Carolina Democrats, with Sanders in second at 20 percent. Close on Sanders’ heels in third place was Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) with 19 percent.
Further behind in fourth place was South Bend Mayor Pete Buttigieg with nine percent, followed by Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) and environmentalist billionaire Tom Steyer at five percent each. Rounding out the poll were Rep. Tulsi Gabbard (D-HI) and former New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg, with four and three percent respectively.
Biden’s polling numbers have taken a nosedive across the board as of late, undoubtedly due to the constant attention being paid to he and his son Hunter’s business dealings within Ukraine, which have become the centerpiece of Donald Trump’s impeachment.
