With the democratic field for 2020 turning ever more hyperbolic and frantic in recent weeks, the behavior among their ranks has gone south in a big way.
There are still twenty-some candidates vying for the nomination – a modern day anomaly, we can only hope. This glut of political pontificators has imbued this once sacred contest with an air of gameshow schtick that doesn’t jibe with the sanctity of the office for which they are competing.
In other words; the entire thing has been an unequivocal mess.
Perhaps the most poignant example of this nonsense has been Beto O’Rourke of Texas, who has twice rebranded his campaign in order to remain relevant. His latest reemergence has taken the boyish charm he once attempted to exude and thrown it to the wayside, offering up a new, darker, grittier image instead. This version of Beto also tends to have a bit of a potty-mouth, choosing to espouse his love for words such as “f**kstick”, and famously selling a t-shirt with the words “This is f*cked up” emblazoned it, referring to the candidates bizarre response to weekend of mass shootings.
With a looming democratic debate set to take place on Thursday night, O’Rourke’s objectionable oration has prompted a fresh warning from host network ABC.
ABC News producers sent an email to Democrats ahead of Thursday’s 2020 Democrat presidential debate, warning candidates to avoid expletives.
Citing FCC guidelines for broadcast television, ABC sent guidance to 2020 Democrat candidates through the Democrat National Committee, according to two CNN reporters.
One tweet even referred to the development as a “wrinkle”.
Interesting wrinkle to debate prep this week.. @RebeccaBuck and I have learned that @ABC through the DNC has sent the campaigns all an email asking their candidates to “avoid cursing or expletives in accordance with federal law and FCC guidelines.” (More)

ABC’s Thursday debate will be broadcast without a delay, setting up O’Rourke and his fellow candidates the opportunity to make quite the splash should they take their grandstanding into the gutter.
