Probably the only person who is surprised by this is Hussein Obama. Yet, the US Army has charged Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl with desertion and misbehavior before the enemy.
The Washington Times reports:
Sgt. Bergdahl was charged with one count of desertion with intent to shirk important or hazardous duty and one count of misbehavior before the enemy by endangering the safety of a command, unit or place, said Col. Daniel J.W. King, chief of public affairs at U.S. Army Forces Command.
The case will now proceed to an Article 32 preliminary hearing, similar to a civilian grand jury, at Fort Sam Houston in Texas. A date for the hearing has not yet been set, Col. King said.
If the Article 32 finds enough evidence, Sgt. Bergdahl could face a court martial.
The charge of desertion carries a maximum punishment of a dishonorable discharge, reduction in rank, total forfeiture of all pay and allowances and five years confinement. The misbehavior before the enemy charge carries similar penalties, but also could result in confinement for life, Col. King said.
So far, Bergdahl has not entered a plea, but Eugene Fidell, Bergdahl’s attorney, said that will come in “due course.”
Navy SEAL Thom Seha, who was a part of Bergdahl’s rescue effort in 2009, said that he never believed that Obama was involved in the negotiations. He also said, “We gave everything and got nothing in return, but a guy who best case scenario he has PTSD, worst case scenario he’s declared a traitor, and he’ll stand trial for that. But I’d never negotiate for that guy. I’d risk my life for him, but I’d never leverage national assets for him.”
Seha also believes the trade was in order to create a diversion, though he confessed that he didn’t know what the diversion was.
Members of Bergdahl’s unit have openly stated that they believe the Bergdahl is a deserter, but they have withheld their judgment as to whether or not he is a traitor. Still, some wonder why they were having their trucks targeted directly with IEDs following Bergdahl’s desertion.
The Bergdahl story was one that Rolling Stone reporter Michael Hastings was working on when he was mysteriously killed.
In closing, let me briefly address claims that we have been hypocritical in our coverage of the Bergdahl situation. Some have said that our article calling to bring Bergdahl home was somehow hypocritical with our condemnation of the administration’s illegal actions of trading five known Islamic terrorists for him. Nothing could be further from the truth.
In a nutshell, you do not leave an American in the hands of the enemy… ever! Second, using means to bring Sgt. Bergdahl back to face a court martial has nothing to do with trading five known Islamic terrorists for him. To think otherwise is, well, let me be blunt… stupid! For those like Live Leaks’ contributor, aptly named “Backstabbath”, who thought it not only hypocritical, but decided to pull Pamela Geller into the loop (referring to her as a “noted Islamophobe,” even though they constantly put up anti-Islam videos), I say thank you very much for the traffic. However, anyone can see that we would never have supported the ridiculous notion of trading a POW for five Islamic terrorists… no way, no how. In fact, the orders to several soldiers would have eliminated the threat that was posed due to Sgt. Bergdahl’s desertion. Since that did not happen, then the call to get him out of the enemy’s hands seems appropriate, though not with the illegal trade that was performed by the Obama administration.
Stay tuned, perhaps justice is about to be served to Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl.Don't forget to Like Freedom Outpost on Facebook and Twitter, and follow our friends at RepublicanLegion.com.
