Arms Running Senator Pleads Guilty to Racketeering Charges

Ever consider how those that want to infringe on the rights of the people in the name of stopping crime are almost always engaged in criminal activity? California State Senator Leland Yee is one of those people. Now, he is pleading guilty to racketeering charges.

The LA Times reports:

…after taking an oath before U.S. District Judge Charles R. Breyer, the San Francisco Democrat admitted to racketeering, concluding an unruly case, involving public corruption, promises of gun-running and more, that shook Sacramento.

“Today’s news turns the page on one of the darker chapters of the Senate’s history,” Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León (D-Los Angeles) said in a statement.

The pleas entered Wednesday by Yee; his political fundraiser and consultant Keith Jackson; Jackson’s son, Brandon Jackson; and sports promoter Marlon Sullivan bring an end to one of two cases connected to a massive federal probe that initially targeted a Chinatown figure known as “Shrimp Boy,” now accused of organized crime activities.

The case, with 29 defendants lumped into a single indictment (one had since died) and eventually split into two cases, has produced 9 million pages of documents and countless hours of audio recordings, defense attorneys said.

This isn’t Lee’s first run in with the law, which he swore to uphold. Nope. The sixty-six-year-old Yee, who has served multiple terms in the California State Senate, as well as the State Assembly, also engaged in gun running back in March of 2014. But it wasn’t just guns that Yee was running. The man tried to sell an undercover FBI agent firearms and shoulder mounted missiles he would obtain from Islamists in the Philippines, all while at the same time attempting to keep arms out of the hands of Californians.

CNN reported:

p>Yee ended up sitting across from an undercover federal agent in a coffee shop in early March, brokering what he was told was a $2 million arms deal that would include the purchase of shoulder-fired missiles from Islamic rebels in the Philippines.

…the agents’ relationships with Yee led to the coffeehouse last month, where prosecutors say he introduced the supposed East Coast mobster to a man he said could provide guns and rockets. It had taken more than three months of cajoling and another $6,000 to get to this point, according to the arrest affidavit.

The document recounts how [undercover agent Keith] Jackson, who served with Yee on the city school board in the 1990s, promised Yee’s associate could supply “cargo containers full of weapons” from Philippine insurgents. In taking the money, Jackson told the agent that Yee “fully understood” the money was for being introduced to arms dealer: “We just talked about that today,” the affidavit quotes Jackson as saying.

As reported earlier, “A total of 26 people, including former school board president Keith Jackson, were indicted on charges related to an extensive crime ring headed by well-known Chinatown figure Raymond Chow.”

Yee engaged in this activity in order to pay off his political monetary debts, according to prosecutors.

So, we see another liberal, communist Democrat who says one thing while doing another. He is a disgrace to the office and a disgrace to the people he serves.
