American Sniper Chris Kyle’s Father Warned Filmmaker He would be in Hot Water if His Son was disrespected

Former Navy SEAL and author of the bestselling book “American Sniper: The Autobiography of the Most Lethal Sniper in U.S. Military History” Chris Kyle was killed at a Texas Lodge in February of 2013, allegedly by a soldier suffering from Post-Traumatic Stress, who he was attempting to help. Prior to filming the soon to be released film of his son, Wayne Kyle told director Clint Eastwood and actor Bradley Cooper, “Disrespect my son and I’ll unleash Hell on you.”

Chris Kyle was deemed the most deadly American sniper in American military history with 255 kills during four tours of duty in Iraq. The rights to his autobiography were purchased by Hollywood with a desire to bring the former SEAL’s life to the big screen.

Wayne Kyle said he looked into the eyes of the veteran director and warned him: ‘Disrespect my son and I’ll unleash Hell on you.’

Eastwood and actor Bradley Cooper, who plays Kyle in the upcoming film ‘American Sniper’, both assured him they wouldn’t do anything to cause the family any anguish.

‘They looked me in the eye and told me they would honor my son’s memory. That was good enough for me,’ said 65-year-old Kyle.

‘Both Mr Eastwood and Mr Cooper were men I could trust. They were very open and engaging and did not want to hide anything.’

The rights to the autobiography were obtained prior to Kyle’s death, but production on the film began after.

The film covers Kyle’s tours of duty in Iraq from 2003 to 2008.

Wayne Kyle wasn’t too comfortable about his son’s life being made into a film by Hollywood.

“I know what Hollywood can do and how it can change things,” Kyle told the Daily Mail. “I told Mr Eastwood I was not happy that a film was being made about my son, but they were very respectful and told me they would tell the truth.”

“They both looked me in the eye and told me they would not do anything to harm my son’s reputation,” Kyle added. “I told them I would unleash hell on them if they did anything to disrespect my son.”

Though Kyle says he has mixed feelings about the film, he did say that both Cooper and Eastwood were respectful to him and that he “liked them both” and believe they were “serious” about portraying his son on film.

Chris Kyle was labeled the “Devil of Ramadi” by the Islamists he was pitted against in Iraq. However, among his friends in the Navy SEALs he was known as “The Legend.”

Of Kyle’s listed 255 kills, 160 of those were confirmed by the Pentagon. The others were deemed “probable” by military officials.

Kyle survived six IED bomb attacks and was shot three times before he was honorably discharged from the Navy in 2009.

He had established a successful tactical training camp in Texas to help other veterans who suffered from post-traumatic stress.

Kyle was 38 when he was killed, along with a friend, Chad Littlefield, as the two were attempting to help Eddie Ray Routh, 25, who claims to have suffered from PTS.

Though Routh’s sister claims that he told her that he “sold his soul for a truck,” referring to his theft of Kyle’s truck after shooting him point blank, his defense in the killing is Post-Traumatic Stress.

The film, which is to open Christmas Day 2014, will also include a postscript that will include the events surrounding Kyle’s death.
