A few days ago, Amy Taxin at AP Los Angeles wrote an article about illegal immigrants obtaining driver’s licenses, and the troubles they may encounter. The article was entitled “Immigrants get Warning on Drivers Licenses.”
She begins by writing “While tens of thousands of immigrants living in the United States illegally are preparing to apply for long-sought driver’s license in California starting January 2, others are being urged to think twice.”
Maybe it’s just me, but shouldn’t everyone have a problem with that sentence? I know we’ve heard over and over, but I just can’t get over the fact that we’re going to reward criminals with driver’s licenses.
She continues: “Immigrant advocates say the vast majority should be able to get licenses without trouble, but they want anyone who previously obtained a driver’s license under a false name or someone else’s Social Security number to speak first with a lawyer, fearing a new application could trigger a fraud investigation.”
Now who exactly are these immigrant advocates? To what end are they advising these criminals and more importantly, who the heck is paying for the services? Are they volunteers, working for the good of mankind, or are they hacks being paid by some nonprofit organization that ultimately skims money from the government by means of a bogus federal grant or porkulus type spending provided by one of the leftist California Senators or Congressmen?
Now, last I checked, sneaking into our country is not a felony (it should be), but stealing someone’s Social Security number sure is. But fear not, illegals. The slew of lawyers, probably provided with our tax dollars, will take care of that. See, you only have to worry about such things if you’re a citizen – little things like fraud and identity theft.
Taxin writes that “The advice isn’t meant to frighten immigrants from seeking licenses that are meant to make their lives easier – especially because many already risk getting ticketed simply by driving to work or taking their children to school.”
Oh no – we wouldn’t want to scare them back into the shadows. That would be terrible to be ticketed for just going to work – a job they stole from a citizen, or to a school that they’re not paying for.
“California expects 1.4 million people to apply for licenses… over the next three years,” writes Taxin. According to her, this will somehow make the roads safer, although she feels no need to explain.
Now here’s a real gem: “Immigrant advocates say they don’t foresee major problems with the roll-out of the program because the state has had more than a year to prepare and an ample budget – $141 million spanning three years.”
First off, this is a “roll-out” of a government program, so naturally one would expect it to go off without a hitch – kind of like Obamacare. And second: Is California flush with cash – because if I’m not mistaken (and I’m not), they are broke – hopelessly in debt to the tune of $425 billion, or over $11,000 per citizen.
So where did they get this $141 million? Is it just more deficit spending in the Golden State, or yet more money picked from our pockets?
The article ends with a quote from Able Rivera, a 37-year-old illegal from Mexico saying “the sooner the better, because it will be safer to drive.” Taxin also writes that by obtaining a driver’s license, Rivera “hopes to qualify for better insurance coverage.”
Now this I did not know – that illegals can actually buy auto insurance. How is that even possible? Who would insure someone here illegally?
Well, I guess I have more questions than answers. This whole situation is just so ridiculous and bazaar – like some episode of the Twilight Zone, or a bad dream I hope to be wakened from any time, although it might just be less painful to just go back to sleep.Don't forget to Like Freedom Outpost on Facebook and Twitter, and follow our friends at RepublicanLegion.com.
