"The caller reported a male acting deranged, knocking on doors and crawling around on the ground naked," DeKalb County Police Chief Dr. Cedric Alexander said in a press conference.

Police responded to a 911 call about the man and found him naked in the parking lot. The man allegedly ran at a police officer, who stepped back and commanded him to stop before firing two shots. The man died at the scene.

Police say no weapon was recovered at the scene and that the man was apparently unarmed. The officer involved is on paid leave while the Georgia Bureau of Investigation looks into the case.

Whether the officer could have used lesser force, such as the tazer or pepper spray, will be investigated.

DeKalb County Police did not return The Daily Caller News Foundation's request for comment in time for publication.
