What does a culture - and its military - look like when it is severed from the lordship of Christ?

What does a culture look like and what does its military become when both define and pursue "security," "liberty," and "freedom" apart from submission to the King of kings?

What does a culture and its military devolve into the longer it is left to operate in such a lawless, Christ-mocking manner?

We don't have to look far as Americans for the answers to these sorts of questions. All we need is the courage to face any of the many increasingly ugly truths that have been placed plainly and clearly before our eyes. We are without excuse...though we do love to pretend otherwise.

Right on the (high?) heels of last week's announcement that President Obama has nominated an openly practicing homosexual to head the U.S. Army, The New York Times reported over the weekend that U.S. Soldiers are being instructed to ignore the flagrant sexual abuse of boys by Afghan allies:

In his last phone call home, Lance Cpl. Gregory Buckley Jr. told his father what was troubling him: From his bunk in southern Afghanistan, he could hear Afghan police officers sexually abusing boys they had brought to the base.

"At night we can hear them screaming, but we're not allowed to do anything about it," the Marine's father, Gregory Buckley Sr., recalled his son telling him before he was shot to death at the base in 2012. He urged his son to tell his superiors. "My son said that his officers told him to look the other way because it's their culture."

Rampant sexual abuse of children has long been a problem in Afghanistan, particularly among armed commanders who dominate much of the rural landscape and can bully the population. The practice is called bacha bazi, literally "boy play," and American soldiers and Marines have been instructed not to intervene — in some cases, not even when their Afghan allies have abused boys on military bases, according to interviews and court records.

Soak that up, American "conservative Christians."

Let it sink in deep.

This is our military.

This is what any military - including ours - inevitably becomes when it is left to wander and pursue paths (and missions and wars) not rooted in the Nature of God as revealed in His Word.

This is what a military becomes when the State is worshiped as God in practice and the Word of God is relegated to some nice, "safe" place off to the side where it is "protected" from mingling with the "real world" concerns of war, peace, freedom, prosperity, and child rape.

This is what happens when we buy into a satanic model of pragmatism and become willing to compromise anything - including the rape of young boys by our "allies" - so that we might pursue some goal that, in our warped and perverted minds, somehow justifies the sacrifice.

After all: The ends justify the means, don'tcha know. Ya gotta break a few eggs if ya wanna make an omelet. That's just how things work here in "the real world."

Or is it?

Scripture plainly says that this is not how "the real world" works. Scripture tells us that everything in "the real world" was made by Christ, for Christ, and through Christ (Colossians 1:16); that His Word provides us with all that we need to rightly pursue any good work in His creation - including any military or civil governmental work (2 Timothy 3:16-17); and that we as Christians are to take every thought (and thereby every action) "captive to Christ" (2 Corinthians 10:5).

The true Gospel touches everything. It touches everything by commanding repentance of sin, and not in just some vague, undefined, generic sense. Sin, as it must be rightly defined in accordance with a full presentation of the true Gospel, is failing to do what God has commanded or doing that which God has forbidden. If we won't actually define what that means in detail when it comes to specific actions in specific areas of life, our "call to repentance" is pathetic and ineffective. (See: Limp Wristed Gospels Make Limp Wristed Cultures.)

If we won't lovingly confront and correct the lost or those in error through the Gospel-fueled Great Commission (Matthew 28:18-20), all is lost. (See: Do we love America enough to call her to repentance? Or are we too proud for that?)

Really.

Including the military.

Including our military...you know, the one that already protected man-on-boy rapists before its soon-to-be openly homosexual leader was even nominated for the post.

In our pride and refusal to repent and submit to Christ as King, we are begging for the wrath of God. (See: Dear America: Jesus isn't running for King and His Law isn't "up for a vote" either. Repent accordingly.)

And He is delivering that wrath...often through our most cherished and worshiped institutions, "experts" and Pagan political leadership. (See: How's that Pagan "conservatism" workin' out for ya, Christian?)
