On January 17, 2014, a Whitehouse.gov petition was launched to request the President pursue a course of action to bring America's only Afghan War POW Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl home. By law, before this petition can be submitted to the President for response, it is required to meet the newly raised threshold of 100 thousand signatures by February 17, 2014.

Many Americans are not aware the United States has a prisoner of war being held in Afghanistan. A Freedom Outpost story about Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl can be found here.

There is much controversy surrounding Bowes capture. Many unconfirmed stories suggest America should abandon Bowe to his captors, the Taliban. Regardless of the controversy, this young man is an American, who enlisted, served and is still in harm's way. The circumstances surrounding his predicament are American issues, not Taliban issues.

The stress of combat can influence a soldier to do many things they later regret. Some that might be viewed, at first glance, as unforgivable.

For those that have condemned Bowe based on unproven allegations, I ask them to hold judgment until Bowe is brought home. At the very least, Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl deserves the same support for efforts to bring him home as he did when he was deployed.

All it will take to pressure the Obama Administration to respond and work toward resolving this very real American conflict is 100,000 American signatures. Click here for the link to the Whitehouse.gov petition to bring Bowe home. It took me 5 minutes to register and sign in support. Yes, it is slightly frustrating and like everything run by the White House, it is not flawless, but it takes less time than a trip to the corner store.

How will you feel if you are wrong America? Whose son or daughter will be sacrificed next? How would you feel if your son was Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl? I signed the petition. Will you? These are the times that try men's souls. Which side of this debate will you be on America? Moreover, what difference does it make? He is still an American. Let us bring him home to his mother and father. Nothing will be resolved if he is abandoned to our enemy.
