So you think the free school lunch program won't get any more ridiculous? Think again. When it comes to progressive government policy, there's no such thing as too ridiculous.

Last week I wrote an article about supposedly hungry children who broke into a school because they evidently equate free food with school. I also reported that there are now government summer lunch trucks that roam the cities passing out "healthy meals" to our starving waifs.

Now I don't know what happened to the four Charlotte North Carolina teens who broke into the school, but all that could have been avoided by them knowing just one toll-free number.

"The U.S. Department of agriculture has launched a hotline students and parents can call to find free meal sites in their area," writes EAGnews. They added that, "Anyone can call the hotline and after giving a zip code, can be given 'the nearest site where meals are provided by the USDA.'"

Well, isn't that nice. No longer does anyone have to prove need. The government will just provide free food for anyone and everyone. In my article, "Please Don't Feed the Children," I concluded that these government handouts to the children, in the form of free meals, are purpose-driven. Progressives in government wish to control every aspect of our lives. And what better way to do this than through food and healthcare (Obamacare). And what better way to accomplish this than to condition our children, the next generation of voters, to rely fully on government.

And in typical liberal fashion the "program judges success not by how many people don't need the free meals, but by how many people they can serve."

Oh, but it gets worse - much worse. For what begins in the progressive minds of Europeans rarely stays there. Just like the German progressives of the last century trained American academics, who then came back to the states to populate major universities like Johns Hopkins, so, too, should we expect nothing less of today's government leftists.

EAGnews also reports that "The British government is urging school leaders to use their 'common law powers' to search student lunches and potentially confiscate any items they deem 'unhealthy or inappropriate.' There is nothing to prevent schools from having a policy of inspecting lunchboxes for food items that are prohibited under their school food policies. 'A member of staff may confiscate, keep or destroy such items found as a result of the search if it is reasonable to do so in the circumstances.'"

Okay - Wow! This is, frankly, stunning. And here I thought Great Britain went to war to defeat the Nazis, not to emulate them. What a ridiculous policy. And, of course, that'll never happen here, in the land of the free (lunch). No - of course not.

But recall the incident not long ago of a teacher in Aurora, Colorado, who "blocked a preschool girl from eating Oreo cookies in her home packed lunch." When the poor little girl arrived home, the cookies were still in the lunch bag, uneaten, but with the following note: "Dear Parents, it is very important that all students have a nutritious lunch. This is a public school setting and all children are required to have a fruit, a vegetable, and a heavy snack from home, along with the milk. If they have potatoes, the child will also need bread to go along with it. Lunchables, chips, fruit snacks, and peanut butter are not considered to be a healthy snack. This is a very important part of our program and we need everyone's participation." Warmest regards - Heinrich Himmler. Himmler didn't really sign the letter - he's dead. I added the Nazi reference.

Homeschooling anyone?!
