The latest polls indicate that 70% of Americans believe that our country is headed in the wrong direction. Those that claim to understand the polls would have us believe there will be a major change of political party control as a result; but that doesn't mean a major change in the direction of the country. If recent history is any indicator, the political party in control does not accurately reflect the true desires of the people. A change in political party control, similarly, will have little to do with changing the country's direction.
America's Constitution requires that the states be guaranteed a Republican form of government. (Article 4, Section 4 of the Constitution) A Republic is a representative government based upon the rule of law. Yet, the United States government of today is most typically referred to as a democracy, a government of the majority. Our Founders viewed a democracy as rule of the mob! Democracies come in many forms, but are undesirable because they always end in socialism and the tyranny of a ruling elite. A republic and a democracy both operate according to the laws that are passed by its rulemaking body. However, the Republic specified in America's Constitution defines the Constitution itself as the Highest Law in the Land. All other laws are judged in their legitimacy by their consistency with the Constitution. In an early Supreme Court ruling, Marbury vs. Madison, 1803, laws in violation of the Constitution are to be treated as non-laws.
A Republic government requires active involvement of The People in selecting candidates that represent them, and then voting for their preferred representative. A key trait of the most desirable candidate is a person that will honor their oath of office "to protect and defend the Constitution against all enemies, both foreign and domestic…." This means that all laws that are in conflict with the Law of the Land should be removed because they are non-laws and only serve to confuse and complicate legitimate law. Little time or regard is given by today's elected representatives to "defending" the Constitution by eliminating "non-laws." Instead, we are repeatedly confronted with attempts to "fix" non-laws.
The erosion of America from a Republic established by The People to a democracy ruled by a controlling elite has been an increasing malaise for almost a century. Today, there is little difference between the two major political parties. They regularly take their turn in power while cooperating to increase the erosion of the republic, albeit from different approaches, and embracing the tyranny of the democracy. To do this, they must, of necessity, seduce the people into trading liberty for perceived security that becomes slavery.
There is only one solution for this problem: Education of all of the people must be restored back to the people. The "non-laws" perpetrated by the Departments of Education, Energy, the EPA, Health and Human Services, to name a few, can only be removed by a grass-roots effort of The People petitioning their legislative representatives for redress of their grievances. Government officials must be held to their oaths of office! When these oaths are violated, they must be held accountable through prosecution, replacement and active support for those that "defend and protect" the law. It is an effort that will not be easy, or accomplished in a short period of time. We still have the authority to restore Rule of Law. Because The People established this government, they have a duty to "change or abolish it" to its original intent! It is still the People's choice!
