In a White House Press Conference on Tuesday, Jay Carney said that focus on United Nations Ambassador Susan Rice was "misplaced" as the investigation into the attacks on Benghazi continue. A reporter mentioned her meeting with Senators today concerning her being the front person following the Benghazi attacks and spreading the lie that a anti-Islamic YouTube video was the reason that the attack took place. Carney was asked his reaction to the comments of the senators, including Lindsey Graham's comment that he was "even more disturbed" after meeting with Rice.
First he said that Ambassador Rice had put out a statement and he referred the press to that statement.
What followed though is enough to make one's jaw hit the floor. Carney said,
"There are no unanswered questions about Ambassador Rice's appearance on Sunday shows and the talking points that she used for those appearances were provided by the intelligence community. Those questions have been answered."
Carney went on to say, "The questions that remain to be answered and that the President insists are answered have to do with what happened in Benghazi, who was responsible for the deaths of four Americans, including our Ambassador and what steps we need to take to insure that something like that does not happen again."
While Carney wanted to say that these are distinct issues, they do have problems. Both are intimately tied together. Furthermore, all questions have not been answered with regards to Susan Rice's comments on the Sunday shows. Since there were at least two drones with video capability in the area, someone was watching what took place, at least three emails were acknowledged, security had been requested for the consulate for weeks and yet we were told this was all about a YouTube video for over a week as Susan Rice was sent out as a sacrificial lamb to blow smoke for the administration. No, all the questions have not been answered. To claim it was "bad talking points" by the intelligence community is simply wrong.
While Carney attempted to state that Ambassador Rice has "no responsibility for collection, analyzing and providing intelligence, nor does she have responsibility as the United States Ambassador to the United Nations for diplomatic security around the globe."
Exactly, she doesn't. So the obvious question that should be raised here is "Why was she the one on five Sunday talk shows spreading the lie around?"
Further, since the security is the job of the Secretary of State, why has Hillary Clinton been allowed to continue in the capacity that she is in since Benghazi?
Carney tried to say that the "focus and obsession" over Rice's appearance on Sunday shows seemed to be to him "misplaced."
Of course he would say that! That doesn't make the focus on the shows misplaced just because he said it. The Obama administration sent Susan Rice out there front and center to push a lie on the American people and now they want to retract it saying that she isn't a member of the intelligence community and doesn't do this that or the other.
As for Carney's comments that the assessments were based on the intelligence at the time, well anyone can say that, but the information coming out demonstrate that something else was going on and I for one would like for those doing the investigating to get to the bottom of it.
