This is kind of ironic to me because I spent 25 years living in California, where elected officials have done and continue to do as much as possible to eradicate gun rights for law-abiding citizens. The simple truth is that these people believe that by limiting and eradicating gun rights, somehow the criminals will be affected. Even if that were true, the sad fact is that law-abiding citizens would be immediately affected and continue to be effected long before it even made a dent in the criminal culture. This is something that the liberal minds of nearly bankrupt California do not want to admit. They really can't admit it because if they did, their entire reasoning for going after guns would fall apart, so they have to keep up appearances that what they are doing is going to go a long way in solving the gun violence problem. It won't.
In the case of California though, I lived through many years of the legislators in Sacramento trying one thing after another to get ammo banned or guns banned or restricted. Most of the time, things did not pass, but that never stopped them. They would simply try, try again. Eventually, through sheer effort, something got passed. They have tried every angle too, even trying to get lead bullets banned for the sake of the environment.
The California Rifle and Pistol Association (CRPA) has noted that "California law restricts the types of handguns people can acquire through licensed firearm dealers (PC 32000)." I recall dealing with that time and time again. You see a handgun that you want to own only to find that it was not on the Approved DOJ Handgun list (which changed all the time, by the way). This meant that if the gun you wanted was not listed, you could not legally own it in California. I believe California is the only state that has this in place, which of course, is making it easier (with gun registration) to confiscate weapons as they have now begun to do.
There are many frustrating aspects of California living. It's not all sand, surf, and sun. The government tends to rule supreme and that's the way it is when you have a Democratically-controlled state such as California. It's always more government intrusion, not less and it's not simply in the area of guns either.
What's the ironic part of all this? As CRPA notes, "Apparently, Attorney General (AG) Kamala Harris has changed California State Department of Justice policy and is now limiting federal law enforcement agents' ability to acquire handguns. The AG says the feds can only buy firearms listed on the Roster of Handguns Certified for Sale..."
Up until this point, law enforcement officials could buy just about anything. In fact, there were guns that I was not allowed to buy (such as the Ruger LCP .380) that a law enforcement officer could buy. Now, apparently, with a stroke of a pen, Harris has decided that this is no longer applicable.
The saddest part of this whole thing? Cops may now - once again - start seeing themselves outgunned by the bad guys. We know - because it is a proven fact - that criminals do not walk into a gun store to legally buy a gun. In fact, why would they even if they could with the lack of guns that can be purchased? They can get anything on the streets of Los Angeles because too many guns are illegally imported into this country through Mexico.
If a criminal can buy an UZI Machine pistol on the streets, why bother with gun stores?
All the laws in the world will not put a dent into the life of the criminal. They will always find a way around any and every law. It's the nature of who they are and what they do. Unfortunately, those on the left routinely ignore this because of their agenda.
If you take the time to notice, this is what the left does. Obama did it by trying to minimize the scandals that plague his administration by referring to them as "phony scandals." How are they phony when they are real? Didn't Americans die in Benghazi? It's clear that the administration did nothing to save them and we still don't know why Obama continued to lie about why the attack on the Benghazi consulate took place originally.
The IRS scandal is phony? Hardly.
These and other scandals that have rocked Obama's administration do little to stop him. He keeps going and going and going and Congress appears to have no real motivation to stop him except for a few individuals and they cannot do it all themselves.
It's too bad people like Kamala Harris have this type of power. Yet, for all my years of living in California, it was close to impossible to move the state away from its progressive, liberal grounding.
Sometimes, when things don't change in a particular location, the only option is to move out of it. That's what we did and I couldn't be happier.
