I wonder if Hillary Clinton's campaign team is starting to look for the exits yet. The once presumptive Democrat candidate continues to struggle in the polls, and as the half of America who already disliked her are starting to despise her, another troubling trend has been developing. Namely, the half of the country that used to love her, now just kind of tolerates her.
Hillary Clinton has turned into the weird uncle at the family holiday that nobody really likes but everyone just kind of puts up with because they have to. For Democrats, as long as no other viable candidate pops up they'll just continue to give their lukewarm support to Clinton… however, if a new candidate, a viable candidate were to suddenly emerge among the Democrat field, Hillary would likely be toast.
In Iowa, it seems that Democrat voters might not even need a real, viable candidate to decide it's time to dump Mrs. Clinton.
The latest poll from the Des Moines Register shows Hillary Clinton's lead over Bernie Sanders continues to crumble. The poll findings, which were released on Saturday, show that Clinton pulls 37% of the vote, while socialist Bernie Sanders is getting 30%! If the trend continues, Sanders will soon be within the poll's margin of error.
Not good news for Hillary Clinton.
However, it's not just Iowa Democrats who seem to be desperate for change. On the Republican side of the ticket, none of the three candidates currently leading the field are actually politicians! In the most recent Monmouth poll of GOP candidates in Iowa, Donald Trump and Ben Carson are tied! The two men lead the field with 23% support each, Carly Fiorina comes in 3rd with 10%, Ted Cruz is in 4th at 9% and Scott Walker rounds out the top 5 with 7%.
"These results mark a significant shake-up in the leaderboard from Monmouth's Iowa poll taken before the first debate," said Patrick Murray, director of the independent Monmouth University Polling Institute in West Long Branch, NJ. "Carson and, to a lesser extent, Fiorina have surged, while Walker has faded into the background"…
"Trump's support is currently more solid than Carson's, but Iowa voters are still considering quite a few candidates before they come to a final decision," said Murray. Iowa GOP caucus goers say that, regardless of who they support in the primary, the country needs a president from outside of government who can bring a new approach to Washington (66%) rather than someone with government experience who knows how to get things done (23%). Among those who prefer an outsider, more than two-thirds are backing one of the three candidates who have never held elected office – Trump (32%), Carson (26%), or Fiorina (13%). However, even among those who say the country needs someone with government experience, 30% are currently supporting one of these three candidates."
It seems that the one thing we know for sure about Iowa voters is that they don't want any of the establishment candidates from either the GOP or the Democrat Party. These latest poll results are an amazing condemnation of the GOP establishment in particular. Consider this: while Carson, Trump, Fiorina, Cruz and Walker lead the way, establishment candidates Jeb Bush, Chris Christie, Lindsey Graham, John Kasich combined only pull in 10% of the Iowa vote share!
So, will the GOP establishment wake up and realize that it's not just conservatives who hate their policies? Or will they continue to make themselves irrelevant by pushing liberal ideas onto a conservative base?Facebook, Google Plus, & Twitter.
