Recent media reports out of Russia have found that Donald Trump has earned at least one major endorsement that no one saw coming… the Vladimir Putin endorsement. While Putin (and most world leaders) usually don’t “endorse” specific candidates in political campaigns, the Russian leader came about as close as can be reasonably expected with some recent comments he made praising the billionaire GOP candidate.
When asked what he thought of the presidential contender, Putin told reporters that Trump was a “talented” and “outstanding” man
"He is a very outstanding man, unquestionably talented.
It's not up to us to judge his virtue, that is up to US voters, but he is the absolute leader of the presidential race.”
While the British Prime Minister David Cameron called Trump’s comments on Muslims being banned from the USA “divisive, stupid and wrong,” Putin had no such criticisms for Trump.
"On domestic politics, his manner of speaking, what he employs to raise his popularity," Putin told the gathered media, is none of Russia’s business "It's not our concern to evaluate his work.”
However, there were a few things that Trump was saying that Putin really seemed to appreciate. "He says that he wants a different level of relations, tighter and deeper relations with Russia, how can we not welcome that? Of course we welcome it.” While these comments all seem to point to Putin hoping for a Trump victory, the Russian leader promised that he had no horse in the race. "We are ready to work with any president chosen by the American people."
For his part, Mr. Trump hasn’t had many harsh words for Putin either. When he was recently asked about how he thought he would get along with the Russian strongman, Trump was optimistic.
"I will get along -- I think -- with Putin, and I will get along with others, and we will have a much more stable -- stable world. I would talk to him. I would get along with him."
So, is there a budding bromance between the Billionaire upstart and the Russian strongman? Only time will tell.
