Let's get ready to rumble! At least that is what someone would think would be shouted into the microphone as Congressman Brad Sherman and Congressman Howard Berman squared off at a forum at Pierce College earlier in the week. No, really, they were ready to throw some knuckles at each other!

As the candidates face the Woodland Hills forum and each other Sherman put his arm around Berman and challenged him in the midst of their argument, "You want to get into this?"

Gary DeLong, a Long Beach city councilman who is running in the 47th Congressional District, picked up a cellphone from a female employee of the California Democrat Party and started to video. Eventually he put the device down and the woman scooped it up and resumed filming.

The following is what took place:

As you can see, a deputy stepped up to the stage to ensure that no physical altercation took place as the crowd hooted and cheered watching the two men getting heated.

At the close of the debate, Berman said: "We are in a heated and expensive race. It's become a very emotional race. We [each] think that when smears are made, and when untruths are said, a person has to defend himself and that raises the intensity of debate."

In a statement on Friday, Sherman apologized saying "I regret my part in allowing emotions to distract from the exchange of views."
