What has gone wrong with America? A land blessed with some of the greatest natural resources the Creator bestowed on any country, now appears to be in an economic tailspin. A country once with the greatest civil government, second only to the Hebrew Republic, has plunged into a form of tyranny and police state that is truly jarring. A country which was once a beacon to the world, a city on the Hill exemplifying the moral influence for the world to follow is now the den of thieves, murderers and perverts, indeed, one of the most unsafe places on earth.
Last weekend, as we celebrated the resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, in Chicago alone, 45 people were shot. A friend sent me an article about the next level of destruction against God's holy institution of marriage, poly, three depraved females calling themselves a trouple. They claim to be married to one another, and they are about to have their first baby – the first of three which they are planning. Once you begin to claim you can redefine God's holy institution, there is no end to it for it is in truth the destruction of marriage.
Lesbian author Masha Gessen admitted the homosexual "marriage" movement used lies and deception to destroy the concept of marriage to the audience of the 2012 Sydney Writer's Festival. "Fighting for gay marriage generally involves lying about what we are going to do with marriage when we get there — because we lie that the institution of marriage is not going to change, and that is a lie," she confessed. "The institution of marriage is going to change, and it should change. And again, I don't think it should exist," she said.
What has become of the America known for its vigorous protection of God given rights? Massachusetts Senator Edward Markey (D) and New York Representative Hakeem Jeffries (D) have introduced the Hate Crime Reporting Act of 2014. Dave Jolly rightly observes, "By hate speech, they mean anything that offends someone else. Speaking out against homosexuality in any way could be considered to be hate speech. The televised sermon of a preacher quoting the Bible in his sermon could be considered hate speech if someone hears it and becomes offended because they are being convicted of their sins. Anyone writing or posting on the Internet that criticizes homosexuals, liberal Democrats, Muslims or illegal aliens could be considered to be engaging in hate crimes."
What has gone wrong with America? We have often heard that about 3/4 of Americans call themselves Christians. In 2009 the American Religious Identification Survey found that 76 percent self-identified as Christians in our land. But that can be misleading. So Gallup surveys have focused a little closer by asking how many would self-identify as born again Christians. The numbers are smaller between 33 and 45 percent in our land depending on which survey you follow, but even that study is problematic for it found that many of those self-identified born again folks believe that Allah and the God of the Bible are the same as well as many other items that would indicate they don't believe what the Bible says.
George Barna's group has refined the survey to identify those who trust in Christ alone for eternal salvation and believe that the Bible alone is without error in everything it states and that it is the only true standard for belief and practice. In his book Futurecast, Barna reports finding that about 7 percent of the public hold to those beliefs. Trusting Jesus Christ alone for salvation and that the Bible alone is inerrant. That puts a whole different perspective on what has happened to America.
I am reminded of an occasion from many years ago when some men were panning for gold in Montana, and one of them found an unusual stone. Breaking it open, he was excited to see that it contained gold. Working eagerly, the men soon discovered an abundance of the precious metal. Happily, they began shouting with delight, "We've found it! We've found gold! We're rich!" They had to interrupt their celebrating, though, to go into a nearby town and stock up on supplies. Before they left camp, the men agreed not to tell a soul about their find. Indeed, no one breathed a word about it to anyone while they were in town. Much to their dismay, however, when they were about to return, hundreds of men were lining up to follow them. When they asked the crowd to tell who "squealed," the reply came, "No one had to. Your faces showed it!"
