On college campuses, it’s evidently a “microaggression” to call yourself an American.

It’s becoming increasingly difficult not to offend the poor little snot-nosed whiners who call themselves college students. Almost everything is an affront to their fragile sensibilities. What ever happened to universities challenging convention and the ability and freedom on campus for free expression?

Unfortunately, things have come full circle, where there is no free thought or expression and the convention is hyper-sensitivity.

Now, I may be out of touch with current politically correct vernacular, but isn’t the term “Queer” considered derogatory to homosexuals? I thought it was, yet at the University of Virginia (UVA), there is a student organization which calls itself the “Queer Student Union” (QSU). Huh.

They describe themselves thusly: “The Queer Student Union at the University of Virginia is Charlottesville's oldest organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, and questioning individuals. As such, we strive to provide a safe, welcoming, and confidential environment for all lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, questioning, and queer individuals in the community. We also organize services, activities, and social programs for the student population at UVA, with an emphasis on queer culture and social thought. As the largest LGBTQ group on Grounds, we work to represent and advocate LGBTQ students' concerns to the University's administration, alumni/ae, and the local government.”

I guess it’s just one of those things where they can call themselves queer, but we can’t. I suppose it’s like blacks using the n-word for one another, but it’s a firing squad if anyone else uses the term.

Anyway, the UVA QSU hosted an event called “Managing Microaggressions” because you know how hard it is to manage them. It was a forum where over-sensitive, scared-of-their-shadow students could air complaints of how they have been verbally abused. Fun for ages 8 to 80.

One of the abused was a female Hispanic student who was cut to the quick when another student (probably white) saw her in cow skin boots and a poncho and said, “Please don’t tell me you wear those together.” Holy Crap! How could anyone be so thoughtless?! Now, I’m sure it was an insensitive cracker. Only a white “privileged” person would be so abusive.

A female Muslim student then took the stage to explain just the latest “microaggression” thrust at her. She complained that with her hijab (head scarf) on, some would ask, “how do we know you’re a girl? You’re probably bald under there.” Oh, the horror!

She also lamented that she would be harassed by, “privileged white men [who] think it’s okay to drunkenly grab me as I walk down to the Corner and ask me what I’m hiding.” Of course they do – and naturally, it is only “privileged white men.” I going to bet that this is a total fabrication. Otherwise, she would surely bring charges against them.

But the key-note of the evening was a Hispanic student who said he refused “to take up [the] identity’ of ‘American’ because ‘this country has decided to take it upon itself to identify as an entire hemisphere.’” He said it was the “the most blatant microaggression in the context of this country.” Funny – I wasn’t aware that there was an American hemisphere. So it’s Northern, Southern, Eastern, Western and American. Who knew.

Given a thousand chances and a hundred years, you could never guess how this student classifies himself. Are you ready? “Instead of American, the student said he identifies as Latinx, queer, socioeconomically disadvantaged, and from Southern California.” I don’t have clue what Latinx is, and I care even less to find out. Only that it is sure to be ridiculous. That I am certain.

Why on Earth do these pampered college weenies stay in America? (yea – I said it) If they are so ashamed of it and feel so threatened, why not just leave and go in search of the Shangri-La they must think is out there. And if they do stay, who in their right mind will employ them? I guess the answer is obvious. These are future University professors and government bureaucrats. They could never survive in the real world, where someone might mistakenly ask if he/she/it/etc. is “American.”
