In addition to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, who is now being hailed as the new "Leader of the Free World," a position always held by American presidents (even Jimmy Carter), President Obama is also petulantly ignoring Egyptian President General Abdel Fatah el-Sisi, as he moves to demonstrate leadership on the world stage.
For years, Egypt and Israel have been our strongest (and perhaps only) allies in the Middle East. We have given Egypt upwards of $1.5 BILLION annually, second only to Israel, in foreign aid commitments. But then the newly elected President Obama went to the University of Cairo in 2009, where he ignited the Arab Spring uprisings, challenged the Muslim Brotherhood to undermine existing Middle East rulers, and, in particular, supported the Muslim Brotherhood candidate, Mohammad Morsi, as Egypt's president.
You remember the story and the fiery pictures. There was rioting in Cairo's Tahrir Square and elsewhere, with the eventual ouster of Mori, and the installation of the current President General Abdel Fatah el-Sisi. In 2013, TIME magazine named el-Sisi as their "Person of the year," and el-Sisi became the first president in the entire Egyptian history to attend the Christmas Mass and give a speech at the Coptic Orthodox Christmas service in Cairo, calling for unity and wishing the Christians a merry Christmas. But still, President Obama, a professing Christian, has seemingly turned his back on Egypt ever since their ouster of his man, the Muslim Brotherhood candidate, Mohammad Morsi.
Of course, el-Sisi is a Muslim. . . as are 90% of his fellow Egyptians. But he does not condone the ideology of radical Islam, and has taken on the Muslim Brotherhood in "revolutionizing" Islam within his country. Since Egypt is bordered by ISIS terrorists in neighboring Libya and elsewhere, and is threatened by Turkey, it is a formidable task.
Bassam Tawil of the "Gatestone Institute" reports: "The Muslim Brotherhood knows that behind the scenes U.S. President Obama supports their movement, especially the branch in Egypt seeking to overthrow President Sisi. This approval from the U.S. encourages the Muslim Brotherhood to be even more determined to subvert and undermine Egypt's stability, sabotage its economic rehabilitation, and destroy the el-Sisi regime.
And while US influence in the Middle East dwindles,
Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, and Kuwait, have pledged billions of dollars in aid to the new Egyptian government, and Russian President Vladimir Putin found time for a two-day visit to Cairo, presenting a special token of his appreciation, a Russian-made Kalashnikov AK-47, to his host, President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi.
In the meantime, All is Quiet on the Western Front. The President leaves for another fundraising trip in California and a round or two of golf. The First Lady will be spending the children's spring break visiting Japan and Cambodia, promoting the cause of education for girls. There are conflicting reports that say the First Mother-in-Law and First Daughters will "not be traveling with her." It is unclear whether this means they will stay at home, or just traveling in their own 747's. It's been done before, you know. Even the First Dog, "Bo," had his own VTOL MV-22 Osprey military aircraft for his trip to Martha's Vineyard.Don't forget to Like Freedom Outpost on Facebook, Google Plus, & Twitter.
