Cowards in the Pulpit Finally Tell on Themselves

If you are wondering why there are not more pastors and preachers in America like the Black Robed Regiment, then you need look no further to a two-year study conducted by George Barna. Barna gave the results of the study earlier this month and revealed that while a majority of them claim they believe the Bible provides specific answers to the issues America faces, they will not speak out on those issues from the pulpit.

"What we're finding is that when we ask them about all the key issues of the day, [90 percent of them are] telling us, 'Yes, the Bible speaks to every one of these issues,'" he explained. "Then we ask them: 'Well, are you teaching your people what the Bible says about those issues?' and the numbers drop…to less than 10 percent of pastors who say they will speak to it."

So, why won't they speak out? They don't want controversy. And why don't they want controversy? It's because they think they are the key to a "successful church."

Barna explained that the vast majority of pastors said that they determined whether a church was successful or not based on five things: Attendance, giving, number of programs, number of staff, and square footage.

"What I'm suggesting is [those pastors] won't probably get involved in politics because it's very controversial. Controversy keeps people from being in the seats, controversy keeps people from giving money, from attending programs," Barna said.

Wow! Does that sound anything like what you read in either the Old or the New Testaments? And yes, the Church existed in the Old Testament too (Acts 7:38). The true mark of a successful, biblical Church is are they teaching, preaching and living in obedience to the Word of God? It has nothing to do with numbers. Just take a look at any of the prophets of the Old Testament. Would Noah or Jeremiah have been considered successful by these standards? How about the Son of God Himself? Would Jesus have been considered successful by these standards? Yet, He is the One that builds the Church.

These men are not those who care for the sheep, but rather fleece the sheep for their own self-aggrandizement. They love money and the approval of men rather than fear God and seek to glorify Him. They know the truth, but they fail to feed the people God has entrusted to them. They are building their own little kingdoms upon the earth, rather than seeking after the Kingdom of God and of His Christ. This indicates several things about them:

  • They are hirelings (John 10:12)
  • They do not love the people of their congregations (Ephesians 4:15; John 10:13)
  • They do not love God (John 21:15-17)
  • They do not honor God (Romans 1:21)

In addressing the cowardice of America's pulpits and the corruption of politicians, Gordan Runyan wrote these words:

Politics is dirty, dirty business. Thus, I'm told, good, clean Christians ought to stay out of it.

But maybe the reason it's dirty business, and full of every kind of corruption, is because those who are meant to be salt and light in the world have voluntarily left the field?

The Christian landscape in America is "fair teeming" (my nod to Tolkien) with egoistic entrepreneurs masquerading as ministers, building their own kingdoms on the backs of well-meaning dupes who continue to stuff their coffers for them. And since one key to business success is to appeal to the widest possible marketplace, these posturing prosperity poofters shy away from speaking about anything that might sniff of controversy. If they start talking about the strange brew of Islamo-facism and race-baiting communism that animates our President, that may not be good for business: they may wind up preaching in the same sort of tiny congregation I serve.

Pastor Chuck Baldwin wrote an article recently titled Odds Are that Your Pastor is Keeping the Truth from You Instead of Preaching It, in which he said that the statistics Barna provided caught him off guard. But, is anyone really surprised? I'm not.

He then states what is obvious. "We are not dealing with IGNORANT pastors; we are dealing with DELIBERATELY DISOBEDIENT pastors. They are PURPOSELY CHOOSING to remain silent. Will that make any difference to the Christians in the pews who say they want their pastor to take a stand but are willing to overlook his 'ignorance?' Probably not. But, at least, we now know what the real issue is, don't we?"

Yes, we do, but we didn't need Barna's study to determine this. It's in the pages of Scripture. This is nothing new.

However, Baldwin does rightly point out what I have said above and then puts it back on Christians to determine whether they want to support such men. "It is time for Christians to acknowledge that these ministers are not pastors; they are CEOs. They are not Bible teachers; they are performers. They are not shepherds; they are hirelings. It is also time for Christians to be honest with themselves: do they want a pastor who desires to be faithful to the Scriptures, or do they want a pastor who is simply trying to be 'successful?'"

My friend Dr. Joel McDurmon rightly adds that the first part of the remedy is education, which he wrote about in his book as part of a multi-pronged solution to restoring America. This is where the people must begin. They must understand the Word of God and obey it. That is their repentance.

As for these pastors, repentance is the solution for them as well. I've often pointed out to people that the apostle John lists cowards first among those which will have their part in the lake of fire (Revelation 21:8). They need to be strong and courageous proclaimers of the Word of God, not editing it, not watering it down and certainly not withholding it from the people. May God grant these men the grace to overcome their cowardice and to proclaim the truth without apology for the glory of God.

Nice article, and it tells it all.

The American Revolution would have never happened without Preachers raising Hell from their pulpits. The 1st Amendment says these laws/regulations "with respect to religion" are ILLEGAL. But there must be a cleansing of the Church. The Church is infested with Money-Changers and Charlatans.
The "rapture" Prophets for PROFIT are ANTI-Christ DEATH CULTISTS. God/Jesus put you in this LIFE to learn "soul lessons", to increase your consciousness to the point of Redemption. Hagee and his Ilk REJECT the LIFE God gave you, and dangle a "shortcut" in front of people, just as SATAN dangled Temptation in front of Jesus. Do not follow the ANTI-Christ lies of FALSE prophets. There will be ONE Judgement Day, and NO ONE is going to "bypass" it by being "raptured", that is a lie from Satan and his television IMPS. Their "shortcut" of cheating God's lessons does NOT lead to Heaven, any more than cheating on school work teaches you the subject. Hagee, Robertson, the whole group, do NOT believe in anything except the MONEY they collect for leading their Flocks astray.

MY PEOPLE PERISH from the LACK OF KNOWLEDGE.....Hosea 4:6.

Also noted a strong control factor over peoples personal lives exorcised by churches, to include a direct statist law enforcement influence over parishioners. A police church/state meted out through the church and note the vast majority of people within that unholy alliance don't even know or care what this partnership really stands for.

After the negative experiences I've encountered with these so called fundamentalist churches, we've made the decision to hold church in our home. Outside the influence of hypocrite's, predators of all varieties and people with hidden agendas. Also sick and tired of preachers more concerned about collecting more dues than about their flock. Tired of preacher commentary rather than quoting directly from scripture. Goodbye I'll never return.

AMEN! You are obeying the Lord by coming out. May the Lord bless you and guide you into the truth of Christ and his gospel which is so very far from the gospels preached today. You may like this web site of a real man of God: http://pastorsb.com

I understand how you feel, we have been at several churches over the last few years and have left for different reasons, mainly because I didn't see any pastors that were truly interested in preaching and teaching the truth and that truly cared about winning souls, changing lives, and ministering to the needy. One church we were visiting had a big push for a softball team, really? Are you serious? Is Jesus sitting at God's right hand looking down on us to see which church has the best softball team? At another church we visited the pastor was big into fellowships and game nights where folks could come and play board games and eat. In my book that isn't what Jesus commanded us to do either. (That's also the church where I discovered that the pastor was ripping his sermons off of the internet and reading them word for word from the pulpit.) Anyway, to make a long story a bit shorter my wife, boys, and I finally found a church where I believe that the pastor truly has a heart to do God's will and lead his church a direction that would please God. My wife and I actually head up our food pantry ministry that our pastor allowed us to start there so we can honor the Lord and help those in need. And yes, we attend a fundamental Baptist church here in east-central Illinois and I understand where you could have issues with fundamental churches but I would encourage you to keep looking and praying that God will lead you to a church where you can learn, grow, and serve. We are commanded to come together as a church to worship together and not just give up and have your own service at home. If you lived around here I'd gladly invite you to come and check us out.

    • blagostwin

Thank you for your words of encouragement brother and if you were here I'd take you up on your offer. When I hear from the Lord to go out again I will obey, he's the one that instructed me to do this type of worship and I'm contented with it. We learn much more about scripture by reading directly from God's word this way. Then trying to sift through all the psycho babble.

The truth is, and I'm sure everyone here knows, people don't want to hear it, or, talk about it. People don't want to hear the bad! End-times, tribulation, sin, hell, satan and his hoards, people do not want to hear it! You can't talk to friends! You can't even talk to family! They don't want to hear it! The apostasy of the church!

But, so what! Tell em anyway! Start with Bible archeology. History backs the Bible:

    http://www.biblicalarchaeology.org/
    http://www.biblearchaeology.org/
    http://christiananswers.net/archaeology/
    https://answersingenesis.org/archaeology/

There is a ton of proof out there (google Biblical archaeology):

    - Tower of Babel (linguists believe there is a root language that existed 5000 years ago, PBS Nova, amazing! Not one of them mentioned the Bible)
    - Noah's ark
    - Sodom and Gomorrah has been found along the Dead sea
    - Evidence of the Exodus

Talk about events taking place today:

    - rebirth of Israel in a day
    - gathers the Jews from the world and returns them to Israel (God is Zionism)
    - surrounded by its enemies
    - a burden for the whole world
    - Gaza, Ashkelon, Ashdot, (Joel, Zephaniah)

      Your girlfriend is hot though.

    • http://pastorsb.com/ Doug Roy

You are right. God's word is verified throughout history. But it is the word of the gospel by which men are saved. That gospel message has been nearly snuffed out in America, replaced with false gospels: from Billy Graham's easy believism to hyper Calvinism to the gospels of total toleration of all forms of sin/licentiousness (see Presbyterian USA, UCC, ELCA, and others) to Pentecostalism which has lost the power of the Spirit and retained tongues (many times from Satan).
Tolerance is word of the day and compromise has filled nearly every church as they've sold out Christ for 30 pieces of silver (or less). But the mighty Son of God lives! Come out from among them...serve the Lord, not men. Learn the true gospel and reject the false ones and the false churches. "Be holy, for the Lord your God is holy." Pray for repentance and revival/reformation of the true church.

  • http://pastorsb.com/ Doug Roy

Tim went so far, then stopped. These cowardly pastors are false prophets, proclaiming and speaking the name of Jesus, but inwardly, they are "ravening wolves." There love for comfort, for money, for the praise of men is the fruit of a false prophet. Their rejection of truth and failure to preach truth is a fruit of a false prophet.
The people that continue to support such men and ministries will be doomed with them. "You cannot serve God and money."
Paul does not teach that such men need to repent. That is obvious. What is not so obvious to most people is that such men (and women) are cursed by God. They have chosen evil and are anti-Christ, not for Christ. They preach a false Christ and a false gospel. Such is the state of the vast majority of churches in America today. They have taken up the false gospels of their denominations which reject the true born again experience and true repentance. They opt for baby baptism salvation, altar call salvation promoted by Grahame, and other such nonsense that damns souls rather than saves them.

    • blagostwin

They are called Whited Sepulchers . Evil people professing good but doing just the opposite. Knowing the word of God but rejecting it at the same time. The ultimate hypocrite.

    • al.k

What about Jer: 14: 11-15 where the Lord told him NOT TO EVEN PRAY FOR THOSE people, that He wouldn't save or hear their prayers, they love the false profits rather than Gods Prophets!

    • http://pastorsb.com/ Doug Roy

Name one true prophet for me. In Jeremiah's day there were a couple true prophets of the Lord, men sent by God to Israel to warn them and to help them turn away from their sins and back to God. Where is there such a man in the United States?

  • WinChll

The Church has been corrupted by social justice; just as society has in general.

    • Pimpin OnCrack

Jesus Christ hung up the phone..he wants you to be a man/woman and take action and do what you can. Stop relying on a crutch. Makes yourself feel better but are you a mouse or a man? Jesus never wanted to be worshiped. In fact there is proof he never died on the cross and he survived and moved to Renee Le Chetau, France were he got married and had chidren. He didn't die to save anyone from sins. This is all rubbish mind control gibberish..just another mind control program by the satanic forces to keep people from taking action. ....Believing someone who is evil can just say "Jesus Christ Is my savior" and then be rewarded, is delusional and highly brainwashed.

  • Supertx

So very true. The influence of "progressive" Christianity seems to be taking over in the media, where all roads lead to the same place and "social justice" is the main purpose of the church.

Somebody sent me the following, and I wish someone could explain it better.

  • SolontheWise

Chapter Two of "Outing the Moronocracy" is titled "Apostate Christendom: Religious Morons." It points out that more than 12,000 (not 1200 but 12,000) American pastors have become part of the Clergy Letter Project, and signed a letter, composed by atheist Michael Zimmerman, asserting that those who do not teach their children that they are descended from worms and reptiles by chance are passing on "ignorance" to the next generation. Google it for yourself. Christendom appears to be beyond redemption. It's no accident that Paul's last letter was not to the "church" but to an individual, Timothy. My recommendation to each individual member of the body of Christ: Come out from amongst her. Get the most accurate translation of the Sacred Scriptures at http://www.concordant.org, and check out "A Truer God: The Supreme Spirit of Light and Love in the Hebrew and Greek Scriptures."

you nailed it......let's not forget.....they also want to keep their tax exempt status......they start rocking the boat and the IRS will reign down on them too

    • WinChll

That was exactly the purpose of giving them exemption. Once govt grants you goodies, you become more beholden to them.

    • jd1958

No the reason for the tax exemption was because of all the good a church does for society as well as just living and paying bills of the tithe.
