Another Obamacare Failure: Insurance Companies Dropping Doctors

I hope that you are not in this situation but I know full well that some of our readers are. Imagine this scenario: You are forced to choose between your doctor and your insurance company. If your insurance company drops your doctor, which is happening in record numbers, it may not matter whether the Affordable Care Act is fixed to let you keep your current insurance.

Yesterday it was reported that UnitedHealth Group is the latest to make such a move, by dropping "thousands" of doctors from its network:

doctors-against-obamacareUnitedHealth Group has dropped thousands of doctors from its networks in recent weeks, leaving many elderly patients unsure whether they need to switch plans to continue seeing their doctors, The Wall Street Journal reported Saturday.

The insurer said in October that underfunding of Medicare Advantage plans for the elderly could not be fully offset by the company's other healthcare business.

The company also reported spending more healthcare premiums on medical claims in the third quarter, due mainly to government cuts to payments for Medicare Advantage services.

Have you ever heard of UnitedHealth? According to the New York Post they are the largest health insurer in the nation.

The nation's largest health insurer, United Healthcare, claims the Affordable Care Act is responsible for forcing it to boot doctors from its Medicare Advantage program that serves thousands of elderly patients in the New York metro region.

CEO Jack Larsen, under fire for separating seniors from their MDs, took out full-page ads to explain that cuts in Medicare spending forced the insurer's hand.

"We are working to collaborate with a more focused network of physicians to help us provide higher quality and more affordable health care coverage to meet the needs of our members, and help them get more from their health plan benefits," Larsen said.

"This work has become even more urgent in light of the severe funding reductions for Medicare Advantage plans that have come from Washington."

Even fervent supporters of ObamaCare are investigating complaints that elderly patients are being unnecessarily separated from their doctors.

"We've met with New York doctors and we're looking for the best way to ensure seniors maintain access to the doctors they want," said Max Young, a spokesman for Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY).

What would you do if you were forced to choose between your doctor and insurance company?

I suppose for most it will come down to a simple decision of finances. They will probably go with whatever is less painful on the pocketbook, but this is not right.

People of this country are waking up to the harsh reality that they no longer have choices in regards to their healthcare. Rest assured that if the largest health provider in the nation makes this move that more are sure to follow.

These are frightening times for those with health issues. These people do not need the drama. They need to focus on getting well.

If your insurance company tells you which doctors you can see, and dictates which doctors can participate, you don't have "insurance." You have a "health plan." This is just privatized socialism People have already bought into it in a big way over the last 30 years, and their enthusiasm for insurance that really isn't insurance is one of the things that made Congress think Obamacare might be possible.
The reason that people bought into it was that the premiums were super cheap, and (especially with HMO's) preexisting stuff was already covered.. The reason that there was no longer any pre-existing clause is that the inurance companies were using their clout to force doctors to sign contracts with them that made the doctors liable for the expenses for tpatient care while the insurance company paid only a flat fee, thereby capping its own costs. The people ate it up, and whenever the "clients" complained, the insuraers blamed the doctors.
The HMO"s have already proven that "transfer the wealth" works. Obama just tried to nationalize the practice.

So this is what "Change We Can Believe In" looks like.

Every damn democrat needs to be sent home looking for another job. Every damn one. And that includes Obama, as soon as possible. He has to go now. Lord I hate this man for what he has done to our country, to all of the families, businesses, hospitals, doctors, children. He is a nigr.

    • Sutekh

Don't flatter him. That word, although an obscenity, was coined to refer to black men who had worked hard at heavy forced manual labor to build this country. Obama has no connection with these men, or their descendants. He is not even worthy of being called the slurs that these men received.

    • afanaglenn

That is one heck of an observation. Of course, he doesn't even consider himself of the black community, only when it is convenient and he is looking for something.

What? After Mr. Obama 'Fixed' it? How can that be? Mr. Obama has a history of being a regular "Mr. Fixit", doesn't he?. He 'Fixes' elections, healthcare laws, and, with the help of his wife, school lunches. Could be, he even GETS fixes. He 'Fixed' the police when they arrested a man caught breaking into a house...who knew the man breaking in OWNED the house? Mr. Obama is also busy 'Fixing' the military command structure. He 'Fixed' the film maker that "CAUSED" the 9-11 attack on the embassy in Benghazi. How lucky can this country be to have such a 'Fixer'? If you need to be 'Fixed', just tell people the truth about Mr. Obama. He'll 'Fix' you, too. If we do things right, we can get Mr. Obama a job 'Fixing' pizzas. Nah. No one would eat it...can't rust him.

And a lot of hospitals are promising not to take Obongocare patients. I believe only two in NYC will.

    • Sutekh

That works out just great. 3 million people can check into one hospital, and 3 million into the other. All at the same time. Just like Obama promised.

The doctor that had been treating my two youngest children and I throughout the past fifteen years dropped me suddenly as soon as this bill was going through. Given the fact that fully 75% of the electorate was vehemently against the passage of that bill at the beginning and fully two thirds continue to oppose it to this day in addition to the fact that now 83% of doctors are against letting the government come between them and their patients through that bill, it is about time that our elected representatives joined Senator Cruz et. al. in once and for all going for the necessary full REPEAL of this deadly bill. When they first proposed it and we petitioned, faxed, sent in pink slips, lobbied in person and marched against it, what part of "no" did they not understand from the citizenry, the "n" or the "o"? How much more clear could we make our mandate than having literally shredded a full copy of that several thousand page bill and left it on the hall in front of Pelosi's office? The video of that demonstration is still out there on you tube. Do we still live in a democratic republic where the voice of "We the People" makes the decisions? We said "No" when it was first tried under the name "Hillarycare" and we mean it just as strongly since it has now been named "Obama(non)Care". Ronald Reagan and John Stossel both had very bold statements to make about the need to forever refuse to sink into socialized medicine in this country. It is definitely time to stand up and unite against this threat to both the economy and the survival of the citizenry. Don't throw the baby out with the bath water - tweak the old system rather than destroying it! The electorate needs to demand compliance with our requirements of those who have been elected to represent us in both the House and the Senate, period.

I was just notified that my Medicare supplement will no longer cover my blood pressure medication after taking a year to find one that worked. They were also nice enough to jack our rates again, along with higher deductibles and copays. Obama and lap dogs have to go. period.

    • Sutekh

800 billion was hijacked from medicare to pay for this nonexistent "Obamacare."

  • Ray - Jesus is the Son of God.

The White House has ordered health insurance companies into silence over Obamacare. No criticism allowed!

  • Ray - Jesus is the Son of God.

Thanks to Obamacare, 900,000 people are losing their health insurance in California alone:

    • Robert Shelton

Don't worry, it'll get worse. However, the ugly brown squat monster invaders will just show up in emergency rooms, where they have to be treated.

  • Ray - Jesus is the Son of God.

And doctors are now warning that if they participate in Obamacare, they'll go broke!

Here is what I perceive to be a toxic stew:

Medical education in the art of clinical diagnosis and the bedside manner has been eroded; the culture in medical schools has changed.

Government and other third party payers have produced a system that tempts doctors and other care givers to falsify the record, and inflate the bill. This is immoral--both in the tempter, and the tempted.

Class envy is a terrible poison, and has been used to condition the public for some kind of "two minute hate" of all physicians, not just the bad, but the good.

The conditioning of the public is nearly complete. Not much longer now.
