CO Sheriff: "I Will Protect Constitutional Rights...With My Dying Breath"

Sheriff Ronald B. Bruce has been the Sheriff of Hinsdale County in Colorado since his election in 2007. He contacted Freedom Outpost to let us know that he stands with Sheriff Scott Berry of Georgia and will not take his business to others who will discriminate against law abiding citizens in selling semi-automatic rifles, but stated unashamedly that with his dying breath he will protect current and existing Constitutional rights of those who elected him.

Bruce has been the Sheriff of Hinsdale County for the past six years. Prior to that he served in the Arizona Department of Public Safety's Highway Patrol. He retired as a State Trooper, having served 28 years.

Sheriff Bruce wrote to me following the story on Sheriff Berry, "I'm on board with the Georgia Sheriff. If we learn of any of our suppliers that normally sold to civilians and are now discontinuing such sales, they too have lost our business."

That's not all, Bruce had already taken initiative by closing an account his office had with online retailer Cheaper Than Dirt. He wrote, "We cancelled our account with Cheaper Than Dirt after they quickly almost doubled their price for .223/5.56 and .308/7.62mm ammunition. They also suspended all “assault” type firearms sales to re-evaluate their position on this…read, figure how much they could get away with in the escalation of their prices for semi-auto carbines."

Bruce was referencing the pull of the sell of all firearms following the Sandy Hook Shooting. Cheaper Than Dirt finally opened sales back up to handguns, including semi-automatics, and rifles, but are no longer offering the semi-automatic rifles such as the AR-15. Dick's Sporting Goods, which are way over priced if you ask me, went all out of their way to hide a page which featured a Bushmaster AR-15 "out of respect for the victims and their families" and had even suspended sales of modern rifles. Out of respect for victims and families you hide a product on your website and stop selling certain ones for a period of time? That's not respect, it's trying to be politically correct.

ron bruceWhile Cheaper Than Dirt has brought back the sale of handguns and shotguns, even semi-automatics in both varieties, they have not brought back semi-automatic rifles such as the AR styles they carried before. They do carry accessories and ammunition for these weapons, but they are anything but "cheap."

Sheriff Bruce is a giving sheriff. He informed me that, "We are a very strong pro-2nd Amendment Sheriff's Office. I and my staff are currently the only certified CHP instructors in the county and offer the classes free to any county resident."

Bruce told Freedom Outpost that approximately 50% of the legal adult citizens in his county have obtained their concealed carry permits.

He then stated what I think should be every Sheriff's motto,

"I have assured numerous constituents who have contacted our office since BHO's re-election, that with my dying breath, I would protect their current/existing Constitutional Rights."

When I contacted Sheriff Bruce back in order to confirm that I might be able to share his stand with my readers, here was his response, "Let ‘er rip Tim. I like to think I’m a man of conviction and don’t shirk my beliefs in the face of opposition."

In my book, it is men like Sheriff Berry and Sheriff Bruce who should be held in high honor in their communities. They are the last stand against an oppressive federal government. Thank you Sheriff Bruce for your commitment to the people of Hinsdale County. May God grant you strength to continue serving well and may He raise up more men of conviction to serve other counties in our country in the same manner.

Actually Walmart still sells ammo, and pretty cheap at that......

walmart sent their election donations to the conservatives.

We need a LOT more like him..

I believe that Sheriff Bruce is far from the only law officer that feels as he does. I think that these Sheriffs should be forming legitimate militias in their counties. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to see where this administration is going.

Until the formation of the FBI, there was NO police power at the federal level. Frankly, I feel that the BATF and other such agencies have no constitutional right to exercise police power, yet they do it with impunity.

  • L M

God bless Sheriff Bruce, may he put a hedge of protection around him.

  • samtman

Why is that every 4 star General including yesteday Retired Gen,McCrystal said that military weapns like AR 15 Bushmaster have no reason to be in civilian hands.

    • Tim Brown

fact is AR-15's aren't military weapons. they are just continuing to put out that propaganda.

    • Kenneth Kirkham

Why do people keep saying the AR-15 is a military rifle, it is not. The .223 round is also not military so stop spreading misinformation. M-16 and M-4 are military and the 5.56 NATO is a military round.

    • Steve

They have pensions to protect and do what they are told. Damn shame too, because they should know better than anyone how important this issue is. If your statement is true, it makes them cowards in my book.

    • John Giorgi

Because he is part of the problem. Not all military people really believe wholeheartedly in the Constitution and the second amendment. The make up of the military has liberals in it just like the police of sheriff departments.

There are tens of millions citizens that are Davy Crockett like in the USA! America with the one and only, "Constitution of the United States of America"!

We need more like retired Sheriff Mack as well as this wonderful man from Hinsdale County; he started not too long ago to shape all up in his county to do just this!!!

    Good for you Sheriff.

Used to live in WY. Now living in PA, but planning to move back to a more conservative state. Had ruled out CO because they went for Obama, but maybe I'll consider Hinsdale County. Thanks, Sheriff Bruce!

    • Houdini44

I live in CO. The smaller communities are not for BHO. But Denver and Boulder ... liberal cities.. where I live they stockpile the guns, ammo and food and watch out for their neighbors. But if I had to move, I'd consider TX or OK.

    • big wyo

well San MIguel Co went obummer how did that happen.

    • the_punnisher

Read my other post. The other " mountain neighbors " are stocking up like crazy here in Jeffco. They have a good idea of what will pass before the end of the year. I promised I wouldn't talk details in a public forum.

Just remember that you can engineer some interesting weapons out of common household goods....if you have the information & education....

    • Lauralee Hensley

Colorado went for OB because so many of them love their Unions and then we have a very high Hispanic rate. I won't say all the Hispanics voted for him, but I know a lot of the HIspanic Christians did and that surprised me. I mean it is like don't you read your Bibles. Why didn't they vote for someone that would protect the unborn?

    • Jan Dinkins

    • Lee Baldwin

gregsmom IS a HERO and doesn't realize it! EVERYBODY that feels this way about NOT moving to a blue state because of too many obama sycophants needs to speak up about that

    • phoenix01

Pennsylvania isn't so bad (much better than the Peoples' Republic of Maryland or the Democratic Republic of New York). In fact, the more conservative, liberty-minded patriots there are in PA, the more likely we'll be able to shift things away from the Philadelphia machine.

  • True Patriot

I support Sheriff Ronald Bruce 100%. I, too, will "protect consitutional rights with my last breath."

I agree. I would love to know what percentage of local police/sheriffs, etc. are willing to stand up for the Constitution and stand up for and with the citizens. God bless you, Sheriff Bruce.

That is unfortunately a very small number. If their organization has been given SWAT gear or helicopters with infrared video, they will bow and scrape before their FedPig Masters.

    • tiredofnigs

Texas needs to get its own house in Constitutional carry for example...

    • Gary

Better than some maybe less than a few we still believe in keeping our guns!

    • Douglas Tiffany

What are you referring to??? - No Constitutional Carry!!!! I have a CHL and you can bet your life I use it. I do not leave my house without my weapon.

    • phoenix01

Douglas Tiffany, Constitutional Carry is not the same as Concealed Carry. In a state that allows Constitutional Carry, no government issued license or permit is required to carry a longarm or handgun in public, either openly or concealed. Texas does not allow open carry and requires a Concealed Handgun License to carry concealed (and God help you if you are "printing" when you conceal carry as you can be arrested on a weapons charge if you do).
States that have Constitutional Carry often still provide Concealed Carry licenses/permits (with background check) to allow private citizens to carry within 1000 feet of a school (such as driving down/walking along a public road or private property located within the 1000 foot perimeter), which is permitted under the Federal Gun Free Zone Act. There are only a handful of states that are Constitutional Carry: Vermont, Arizona, Alaska, and Wyoming. Texas is actually fairly stringent in their gun laws as compared to some states.

Did your mommy drop you on your head, or are you just stupid?

  • RKflorida

Thanks Sheriff, you are a man of honor.

  • retiredmillwright

Thank you America for men like sheriff Bruce. He has his ducks in a row.

    • Guest

If each county would do this and then come together as a US statewide effort, we could beat them at this nasty, nasty game they are playing with our lives. I know that WY had a meeting of such but are looking for the troll within the bunch.

    • ssilv48

I believe all sheriff departments are with Americans. They all see through mr obomas bs.

    • hedy

    • gdfairy6

Unfortunately, I doubt they all do. I live in Contra Costa Co., in Ca. I believe the sheriffs here are probably all communists like those in the administration. They will do everything they can to take our guns and keep us from getting them. Already you have to pay $10K in political fees to help get the sherriff elected before you can get a conceled carry permit.

    • pegasus514

same crap as here in flagler county, florida. the r all crooked as corkscrews.

    • Sandra Lee Smith

Y'all can drop in here to AZ, we're collecting good Sheriffs who stand with their citizens and KNOW the Constitution to which they also swore oaths, the laws and what their duties are!

    • Audrey Stricker

Strange-other counties in Florida go through the State Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services Division of Licensing.

    • leesjokers

    • Roger12266

That is because you are too close to Jacksonville which is a Demorat stronghold. Welfare and stupid people inhabit Jacksonville and the infection is spreading to Flagler.

With all due respect, I would be moving.

I would sure as hell move from there, and report that action!

The land of fruits and nuts. Never expect much from there.

    • danimal

      don't forget the flakes

    • Drawer22

Your belief is quite correct, having lived and served as a LEO in CoCo County, CA. But then, much of Kalifornia is peopled and "represented" by those who believe in the totalitarian power of the Almighty State.

Interestingly, some counties in Kalifornia DO issue "permits" to carry concealed (leaving aside the obvious concern as to how a governmental entity or any person can permit a right!), Sacramento County most notably among them.

My prayers are with the patriots in Kalifornia, as I see little "HOPE," no matter what that guy in my White House tells the unwashed masses.

California... home of the Liberal fruits & nuts....Nuff said.

    • Dennis Campbell

You forgot kooks and quacks, and quakes and queers.

    • danimal

Ya gotta be crazy to live in the land of fruits, nuts, and flakes. I hope you can make it out of there before it drops off into the big water

    • John Giorgi

Don't count on that. Just like our society is split so are the sheriff departments. Many liberal sheriffs or police for that matter want our guns to make their job safer, even though the criminals will still have them. You need to realize that even liberal police have the same mindset as other liberals. They simply don't understand the folly of taking the guns away from law-abiding citizens. We need to stand our ground because Obama and his kind are not benevolent socialists. They are heartless evil communist ideologues hell bent on total control; total tyranny will come if we fail and they take all our guns.

    • Roger12266

My Sheriff, down here in Hendry County, FL, is a Democrat. But, guess what! He believes that every household should be armed. He states that having an armed citizenry would make his job much easier and much safer for his deputies because the criminal would probably be either dead or in "custody" of the homeowner before the deputy arrived.

    • Frank629

writing MR.OBAMA is being to kind to him .It should be s--t head obama

    • TheSunDidIt

Forget the trolls. They already have all your names, bank accounts and everything else you can think of in the way of data on you plus, they can track your electronic signature in real time by satellite. So, do the right thing and trust in God, not in man or governments.

    • mallen11

      You are so very right!!!!
Jer 17:5 Thus says the LORD," Cursed is the man who trusts in mankind and makes flesh his strength, and whose heart turns away from the LORD.

    • 1American1st

I believe & trust in God, Smith and Wesson, and American Patriots like Sheriffs Bruce and Berry.
I do not trust any Liberal that is stupid enough to support any type of gun control and give up their rights as a citizen to become a subject.

    • danimal

I say that Sheriff Joe fits right in with them

    • 1American1st

Wow! That was a "My Bad" to forget Sheriff Joe! My apologies!

    • dlsoup

I like Sheriff Joe's stance on crime and on illegal immigrants. Through all of the talk of 2nd amendment , and guns, I have not heard/read anything though of Sheriff Joe's stance on our right to carry. Seems odd.

    • danimal

I heard him on talk radio today, and he stated that he had people on his posse that are trained on full auto weopons and that they have been cleared, by Joe, to carry these weopons. These are every day folks, from the age of 21 to, whatever, just like you and I.

    • Rick Jason

Shrf. Joe is a patriot and is solidly behind the 2nd amend. He is supported by the TP and praises the Constitution. Shrf. Babeu is another great oathkeeper as well as other shrfs. in Az.
The traitor Dupnik in Pima Co. is the only shrf. that I'm aware of that will march on the side of the Globalists when the SHTF. That is one county that patriots should avoid.

    • JC

And all of the Oathkeepers. Go patriots!

    • Hoodoo H

May GOD lead us in HIS Righteousness.

    • leesjokers

I'M WITH YOU 101%....WE MUST ALL (rightous americans) UNITE...

    • S&WM&P

What the liberal politicians are failing to notice is that the gun owning public is composed of liberal voters (read Democrats) as well. Gun ownership among Democrats is rising sharply. I think these people will also side with the 2nd Ammend. when push comes to shove. At least that's my hope. God, Family, and my S&W M&P's!

    • Roger12266

Unfortunately, I don't believe that any liberal will vote to uphold the Constitution. They are too busy being "politically correct" or collecting their welfare checks.

    • Ebnas1

The Constitution was created by conservatives, how liberals will vote to uphold it?

    • Thomas Latham

Amen! The god of all creation is our victory.these despots will be consumed by their own wickedness, praise the Lord! As Goliath was delivered to David, this oppressive enemy that we have in the White House will be delivered unto judgement. We are more than conquerors through Christ Jesus our Lord!

    • m_e_m

    • big wyo

      sheriff Mack also.

    • Sandra Lee Smith

He's over in Lincoln County, NM now.

    • Rich Geshel

I LOVE Sheriff Mack's book "From my cold dead hands".

Love our law enforcement officers here in AZ.... they uphold the law!

    • Sandra Lee Smith

Yep, we've got some really good ones here!

    • Charles Wasko

      Yes ..another good man!

    • tiredofnigs

Hardly, Sheriff Joe is NOT a Constitutionalist...he will and does support un-constitutional lwas now. He just braggs a lot about the tent jail but other than that he really ain't much Remember he is an ex-fedcoat...

    • Sandra Lee Smith

NOT so we're noticing down here.

    • wminaz

Sheriff Joe is usually painted by the MSM as some kind of redneck goofball. A lot of people don't know that he is very active in protecting animals and has strongly enforced the laws against animal cruelty. He has made TV ads on behalf of the animals requesting people call in cases of cruelty. He has started a program where selected inmates care for abandoned animals and often are able to get jobs upon release due to their experience with the animals. Can anyone say "he really ain't much" ?
We can count on him in this fight because he has stood up to the feds on lesser issues.

    • Sandra Lee Smith

I know; I've lived in AZ, not far north of Maricopa for over 30 years, since before he was first elected; you can't live in AZ and NOT know about Sheriff Joe. I thought his program of having inmates care for rescues is GREAT for BOTH when I first heard about it. Animals can bring out our better natures, without half trying, and most criminals NEED a good dose of that! It's actually a brilliant idea! He's a GOOD man, not perfect, but then which of us IS? Over all he's doing a splendid job in Maricopa; that place was a WORSE hellhole when he took it on!

    • Sandra Lee Smith

And Sheriff Scott Masher up a county or so to the north too! Yep, we keep some dandies here. Too bad Yuma just lost there good man last fall, when he was killed in a traffic accident.

    • icetrout

The Feds are biting off way more than they can chew... DEATH TO TRAITORS!!!

    • Chicot

Too bad we don't have men like this in congress and through out our goverment. We need constitutional judges on all benches also. Until this happens we are doomed.

    • cyber_hackster

All the "ducks" are in Washington

    • 1American1st

By that, I assume you mean "Quacks".... I agree.

    • LaVerne Velasco

Not enough people like the Sheriff. How come the people in Colorada voted for the MUSLIM PUNK and LIAR??????? Doesn't make any sense to me. He is EVIL. The reason he doesn't like the words, ILLEGAL, Terrorist and Threat????????? Well, he is ILLEGAL and he is, " THE TERRORIST THREAT". Plus, he and Ole TRACTOR JAW Michelle, the BEAST are the two most RACIST people in OUR country. LARRY VELASCO.

    • 1American1st

Another RACIST pig is Soledad O"Brien on CNN.

I was surfing recently & stopped on CNN because I recognized a (black) Senator from my state who I didn't think was very racist. Soledad was at the peak of her race-baiting, garbage-mouthed rants, baiting everyone on the show. He acted a bit surprised by her race-baiting at first, then began to somewhat agree with her racist statements. What an unAmerican PUKE!

I will never watch CNN again. I don't know what I was thinking! I hadn't watched CNN since they tried to cram Ketchup King Kerry down our throats in 2004. If I could remove it from my TV I would. She is as disgusting as the 2 racists in the WH.

    • bp

The people in Colorado did not vote for the Ass in the WH. Colorado allows anyone to vote by just showing a utility bill with the same name as on the voter registration list. Many upon many illegal people voted in Colorado.
