Should Anyone Be Shocked By Obama's $1.6 Trillion Tax Hike?

In recent negotiations, President Obama laid out $1.6 Trillion in tax hikes.  Boehner and others were astonished at such a high number and Fox reported it as if Obama was playing vindictive politics.  In reality this should have been anything but surprising.  Had they been paying attention, they would have known that this was coming.  These cuts in certain deductions and other means of raising taxes across the board were clearly outlined in the President’s proposed 2013 budget.  The budget had very little support when it was introduced and seemed to be dead until recently.

The funny thing is, just as the Washington Post reported, it was never really brought up in the campaign.  Why was that?  Why did the Romney campaign not point out that Obama did not want just an $800 trillion tax increase, but one twice that.  It seems very strange that while the President was traveling the country calling for “Class Warfare,” his counterpart was saying nothing about the fact that this was just half of what was coming.  I mean I have heard of confidence, but that is ridiculous.  Did we learn nothing about Obama with the Obamacare fight?  What we should have learned is that the man is worse than a pit bull when he sets his mind to something.

Obama should have been expected to come back to his original plan once reelected.  This is his normal mode of operation.  Yet, the GOP, Mitt, and Fox failed to inform the country of the original plan.  This is where the human factor comes in.  I know that I sound as if this oversight was one that could be called intentional.  This could not be further from the truth.  You can bet that if any of the three and many others would have seen the opportunity to nail the President with this they would have taken it.  Rather, it is as with most people, I think they were just hoping that this would not be the situation they would find themselves in.

What I mean is twofold.  They first and foremost thought that there was no chance that this lame duck President would ever have a chance of winning.  This was a fair assumption.  He had one of the lowest approval ratings in history, the economy is stagnant, and we are still in a war he said he would end.  There was no doubt back in the summer when this budget was proposed that it would not go anywhere, as it would be the last straw to a dying economy.  So once it died the GOP and everyone else buried it and focused on what Obama was saying to the people.  They attacked what he said, not what he had done.  They apparently did not think that they needed to, because they felt sure that they would be in control come November.

Second, they did not think that Obama would return to the failed budget.  They thought that since he was not mentioning the other $800 Trillion in tax hikes that he would not be pushing them.  The GOP thought that they would be able to come in and give the figure the President had during the campaign and things would go smoothly.  This was not the case and now they are in a situation, in which, they cannot easily get out of this hard spot with this budget.  They will take their lumps regardless of what they give or where they stand.  Fox seems to hope that the American people will recognize that this is the Presidents fault, but that is unlikely.

Just as we have seen the many times that the President and Congress have been at an impasse, the Congress most times takes the greater beating.  We should also note that this will end with a victory for the White House.  The GOP will be willing at the eleventh hour to broker a deal where they do all the compromising in return for promises with no details.  The President will promise cuts that will never materialize and the GOP will be, once again, holding the bag.

When Clinton raised taxes "Only On The Rich" my dad made $12,000 taxable income. His taxes went up $300.00. Guess a thousand a month made him a "rich" man. Here's is a little hint, to Progressives, if you HAVE A JOB you ARE "RICH'!

  • isaidit

Now he wants 62 billion dollars to fix the sandy storm in and around NEW YORK, brace your-self, he will use another execetive order to get that, this area is massively covered with LIBERALS-----

Listen, at this point, it should go one of two ways. Agree to the President's tax demands BUT ONLY if the GOP forces mandatory spending cuts that are DOUBLE what the President's plan calls for. The mechanism should be that the taxes don't get hiked without the spending cuts going in place. If the spending cuts don't go in place, then the taxes don't get hiked. Second way? Over the cliff we go. EVERYBODY feels the pain of higher taxes. This was the Democrats original plan. Get rid of the evil Bush tax cuts. Well, now if we have to, we should give it to them. If the country goes down, it's all the Dems fault. No end arounds by the Dems for the middle class. Full on tax reform should be done with a flat tax.

It will still be blamed on the Republicans and the media will help make that charge stick.

  • T. Copps

Not surprised at all.. he had to make it that high to make damn sure congress would not sign it.. he does not want them to.. he wants to rule by "executive order" again!.. for the next four years. Thinks he's king.. stupid idiot!

  • oldcoyote

He is doing exactly what his zionist puppet masters tell him to.

The guy is a DOMESTIC ENEMY. To deny this is to deny reality.
How did he even get vetted with the company he keeps? Never mind if he's a legal citizen or not. He should be marched out of the office in a perp walk. All his commie Czars too.

So how much will the taxes be raised at each income level? That's what is important here.

I want to know if these taxes will be hitting the people already buckled down under Obama's tide of change or if it will be hitting only the higher income tax payers as he said they would be.

    • govtrumbull

Deciding the amount of tax could be as easy as receiving a paycheck from the IRS after they decide how much you are worth. If someone does not capitulate, or the less they support the schemes of the regime, the less they are paid. That was the way it worked in the former Soviet Union, there were no such thing as a "private sector" job.

    • T. Copps

I'd like to know if all these " higher taxes" on the rich, will hit Obama and all his pals or has he given them all a pass.. like he has done before. Just who is he targeting to pay all these high taxes... just those rich Republicans that voted against him??? Betcha!

    • Aaron Stoner

I really hope Obama doesn't start biasing his taxes...but then he doesn't have to worry about another election so he probably wouldn't care what people think about him now.

I have a friend who voted for Obama, and their number one reason was because they thought they would keep more of their income...doesn't look like that will be the case now, huh? In this case, I'm sad that they were wrong, because they have kids to feed.

  • govtrumbull

Obama is a progressive that never saw a tax that he didn't like. We haven't seen anything yet. What will happen when our confiscatory progressive tax system breaks the fifty-percent mark and increases from there. If it is up to Obama, it will, especially in his third and fourth terms. Impossible you say? Very likely is the most correct probability. Here we have an individual who prevented Military votes from being counted, tampered with voting machines, and prevented safeguards to keep illegal aliens from voting in this election. He is packing the Supreme with extreme left wing appointees, and is fiddling around with our money supply to the point where we will soon officially be hitting $21.5 Trillion in debt. Our unfunded liabilities are even more astronomical. In fact these numbers are so huge most citizens cannot begin to comprehend just how huge these debts really are.

This election was bought and paid for by a group of mega-wealthy progressives who will stop at nothing to keep Obama right where he is. The death of the constitution and our freedoms and liberties mean nothing to them. If you think Obama's first term was a bad dream, just wait for the second, third, and who knows how many terms coming our way. I know, I'm "a crazy, right-wing lunatic," but I'll bet that I will end up being on target. Obama is being set-up to be America's first communist dictator.

    • patriotusa2

I bet you are right on target, as I've been saying the same thing myself for a long time.

  • Bob Marshall

It is the tax payers, not the GOP who will have to pay. The reason these events don't seem to bother much of the population is because they aren't intelligence enough to realize what is happening and what has happened under Obama and his administration. IF America was a farm it would be a sheep farm and Obama would be the Shepard.

  • DOOM

if it's anything like last year, republicans will fight long and hard to give him a 4 trillion tax increase.

  • retiredmillwright

The Pharaoh Obama is like a crooked kid who catches his
grandmothers’ back turned and steals her life savings. He will squander every
dime of it and have nothing to show for it.

  • Greg T Beaty

Remember we are talking about Obama the man that is hell bent on destroying America with heavy dept.
