Obama Responds To Gun Control Petitions Within Days, 'Mum' On Secession

Within moments of the shooting that took place at Sandy Hook Elementary School petitions went up at the White House petition site "We the People" calling for more gun control and more legislation by Congress. In other words, the desires of these people was more government intervention. While the time designated on the "We the People" site says that petitions must reach a designated goal of 25,000 signatures within 30 days and that the response could come at any time. Well, Barack Obama has already responded within just a few days.

At least thirty-two petitions got the same response. Most fell way short of getting a response by the White House's own policies. The response was to petitions started that were both pro-gun and pro-gun control.

The top petition in the group garnered nearly 200,000 signatures in favor of more gun control legislation.

One petition that received 197,073 signatures, as of the writing of this article, reads:

The goal of this petition is to force the Obama Administration to produce legislation that limits access to guns. While a national dialogue is critical, laws are the only means in which we can reduce the number of people murdered in gun related deaths.

Powerful lobbying groups allow the ownership of guns to reach beyond the Constitution's intended purpose of the right to bear arms. Therefore, Congress must act on what is stated law, and face the reality that access to firearms reaches beyond what the Second Amendment intends to achieve.

The signatures on this petition represent a collective demand for a bipartisan discussion resulting in a set of laws that regulates how a citizen obtains a gun.

So how did Obama respond? See for yourself:

Here's how Obama responded and yes the parentheses are my comments on the obvious hypocrisy in his words.

Obama, in his video response, said that "like the majority of Americans, I believe that the Second Amendment guarantees an individual right to bear arms. We've got a strong tradition of gun ownership that's been handed down from generation to generation."

"The fact is," Obama continued, "most gun owners in America are responsible. They buy their guns legally and they use them safely and it's encouraging that many gun owners have stepped up this week to say that there are steps that we can take to prevent more tragedies like the one in Newtown; steps that both protect our rights and protect our kids."

Obama went on to say what he thought should happen. "This week I called on Congress to take up and pass common sense legislation that has the support of the majority of the American people (Something he obviously didn't do with the Affordable Care Act), including banning the sale of military style assault weapons and high capacity ammunition clips and making sure criminals can't take advantage of legal loopholes to get their hands on a gun."

"I also tasked the Vice President with leading an effort to come up with a comprehensive set of serious proposals to keep our children safe, including strengthening school safety, improving mental health care, and addressing a culture that too often glorifies guns and violence (Sort of like Obama himself, who invites rappers like Jay-Z and Korea's PSY to the White House)," he said.

"I've asked for these proposals by January and I will push for them early in the year (Obama would do it sooner but he's gotta get that Hawaiian vacation in, and don't worry about the fiscal cliff stuff, he's just fine to go over the cliff)." Obama said. "I will do everything in my power as President to advance these efforts because if there's even one thing that we can do as a country to protect our children, we have a responsibility to try (Unless you are talking about removing "Gun Free Zones" and allowing all school officials to exercise their Second Amendment rights. We can't afford to try that)."

Obama reiterated the statement that he could not do this alone. He claims that he needs the people's help in restricting their options for the kinds of weapons they purchase, own and handle, as he stated himself, "legally and... safely."

"If we are going to succeed," he said, "it's going to take a sustained effort from mothers and fathers, daughters and sons, law enforcement and responsible gun owners; organizing, speaking up, calling their members of Congress as many times as it takes, standing up and saying 'Enough!" on behalf of all our kids. That's how change happens (Yes, it is responding emotionally to an emotional argument about kids and children (What about the adults who were murdered?), instead of looking at actual numbers concerning gun control)."

He then called for those who signed the petitions on gun control to continue doing what they were doing to make America safer. Of course, one has to wonder about some form of drone control legislation concerning Mr. Obama himself as he wants to put 30,000 drones over our airspace within the next seven years. Just how many innocent children has Mr. Obama killed with his drones strikes in foreign countries, including American citizens?

Don't believe for a moment that he really believes in your right to keep and bear arms. What he is doing is trying to get people in the mindset to think they came up with the idea to disarm themselves.

Apparently for Obama anything, except allowing for free and full exercise of Second Amendment rights, is acceptable. He took time out to make this response and yet weeks after the thirty days were up for the secession petitions, where every state in the union had a petition and many had multiple ones, pushing nearly one million signatures, we have not heard so much as a peep from the administration.

i am an American Citizen who is outraged by the NRA and the pro-gun propaganda that you are responsible for. WE DO NEED STRONG GUN CONTROL LEGISLATION, AND WE DO NEED IT NOW.

There were armed guards at Columbine High School, but they did not prevent the mass murder that occurred there. The perpetrators of that crime had no previous mental health history, so no Mental Health Measure could have possibly prevented the mass murder at Columbine High School. Only Strong Gun Control Legislation could have prevented what happened at Columbine High School, and only STRONG GUN CONTROL LEGISLATION could have prevented the dozens of mass murders that occurred since that tragedy in this country.

The mother of the person that shot 20 children and 6 adults in Connecticut was a gun nut like you and some of your supporters here. She is dead because she was a gun nut, because her son used her own weapons to shoot her. . Why was he able to do so? Because all he had to do was to walk into his own bedroom to get the deadly weapons with which he killed 27 people and himself. It is thus OBVIOUS that once again, no mental health measure could have prevented this latest tragedy, and the perpetrator used his mother's guns to commit mass murder. He did not purchase the guns. His mother did. What could have prevented this tragedy? STRONG GUN CONTROL LEGISLATION.

The Second Amendment does not say that any ordinary citizen has the right to own machine guns, magazines with 100's of bullets, or guns that can shoot 10 bullets in a few seconds. Or Bazookas. Or Tanks and Armored Vehicles with rocket propelled grenades. These weapons are made for war, and there is absolutely no conceivable reason why ordinary citizens should have the right to own them. And if they own them, like the stupid mother of the perpetrator of the massacre in Connecticut, GUN CONTROL Legislation should have obliged her to store her weapons and ammunition in LOCKED cabinets, so that her son could not get them simply by walking into his own bedroom.

I do not want the school of my children to be transformed into a fortress or a an armed camp. And I do not want my son to go to school afraid that he may be shot and not come back home safe. . As I demonstrated above, no amount of armed guards could prevent my son's murder in school. No amount of mental health legislation could do that either. The only thing that can help insure that my son will never get murdered in his school is STRONG GUN CONTROL LEGISLATION. I WANT IT. I DEMAND IT. I WANT THE NRA AND PEOPLE LIKE YOU OUT OF CONTROLLING MY LIFE, OR THE FATE OF MY CHILDREN.

Gun Control is a much more pressing issue than States wanting to pull out of the Union. Once the Government has control over all guns it will be a simple matter for the Government to control all of the States!
