Home Invasion Leaves Elderly Woman Brutally Slashed

BigPondNews.Com reports:

Police have laid more charges against a Brisbane man over a savage home invasion last month, in which an elderly woman's face was slashed open.

The 72-year-old woman disturbed a burglar after he climbed through a window of her Manly home on October 28, police say.

Back across the big pond, in America, statistics on home invasion have been notoriously hard to nail down. This is due to the fact that disparate police organizations define the crime differently; and, what begins as a simple burglary (with violence not necessarily intended) may quickly become violent as the perpetrator is confronted. Different organizations may classify a story like the one above as a burglary, therefore, and others as an invasion.

The report continues:

Detective Senior Sergeant Sean Dugger from Wynnum CIB says the woman's physical injuries are healing but the attack has had a devastating impact.

'As you can imagine she and her family are quite traumatised,' he told reporters.

Nothing in the story indicates how long this event took. From the moment the elderly woman was awakened, until the brutal attack was completed, how long was it? A couple of minutes, maybe? Stuff like that can happen pretty fast.

From the internet searches I've done, it looks to me like police response times in answer to a 911 call in a large city are generally in the neighborhood of 11 minutes. We've all heard the horror stories where it took much longer. A ten minute response time seems to be better than average.

I'm not much of an alarmist, but my own (small) town has seen an increase in drug-related crime that roughly corresponds to the increase in food stamp allocation, and unemployment. A turnaround in these areas does not seem to be on our horizon. A few months ago, I found myself in the unenviable position of having to deal with a meth-head on my property at about 3 a.m. hoping to steal something, and, long story short, I was pretty stupid about it. I let my visceral anger and instinct to protect my family take over and cause me to make some dumb moves. Thankfully, sometimes God looks with pity on my idiocy: I managed to drive the burglar away.

As we're talking about these things, I think we need to let ourselves be instructed by what has happened over the last year in Greece as well. As Dr. Paul has presciently pointed out, our politicians who are talking about rescuing us from the "fiscal cliff" this December have generally all failed to see that we've already plunged over the edge. The fiat money is going to run out, eventually. Romney couldn't stop Obama, but at some point, simple mathematics will. Ask Greece. In the immortal words of Margaret Thatcher, the problem with socialism is that you eventually run out of other peoples' money. This is coming to our shores as well. It may be years yet, but it is coming.

You thought a small portion of the 47 Percent might riot if Romney won. What portion might imitate the Greek economic leeches when we, too, are forced into our own version of "austerity measures?"

Without widespread chaos and rioting, it's eleven minutes from the time you dial 9-1-1 until the police might make it to your place. What might the response time be when feces hit the fan blades?

It is time we all sobered up, took a deep breath, and got serious about taking charge of our own security, as much as it is possible. No one will be as zealous for the protection of your kids as you are. As my humble contribution toward that end, let me commend to you this basic article on home defense, that is largely the outcome of my own experience.  Fifteen pages of information for you to consider, for less than a dime a page on the Kindle, is pretty cheap. I get pennies for each one sold, so it's not primarily about the money with this title. It's about our families. Marxists would like to see them all destroyed: we need to defend ours.

This author is full of BS. If it isn't about the money ???,,, then why ??,,,, is he selling it lol.

Shouldn't he just be giving it away on here ???. Or is he saying his - time - to write something is more important that helping people be safe ,, in their homes lol.

Shysters always make me laugh when they say - it isn't about the money - lol.
Though I do agree , if you depend on police for security. Your home is sadly lacking ,, in security...

By the time they get there ( the police ) , it will all be over people. Remember that little tidbit.

The thought that a criminal who invades a home does it with "No Violent intent" is the largest Misconception, and a Cheat Lawyers use to try to free Criminal Clients.
Any Idiot (Criminal, Lawyer, or Otherwise) would Know that the "Possibility of a Confrontation happening" Is Always a distinct and possible by-product of an Uninvited Invasion of Any Persons home including if it happened to the Criminals themselves (They are Not this stupid to think otherwise, Ever), Yet their Lawyers would have people believe there was No Intent. If a criminal is Prepared for it, Knows its is a possibility Prior to Committing the Crime, and in most cases even brought with them a weapon to aid them in committing the crime... They Had Intent, Period!
Which also means the Homeowner has EVERY RIGHT to Defend Self, others, and Property with Lethal Force if deemed Necessary By the Homeowner or Person Threatened and ONLY by the Person Threatened. No One Else Can Negatively Judge the Situation if they were not In Those Shoes and knew what happened to make that call, No One!!!

Yeah, maybe they can have thier guns back now.

Home Invasion, the newest game craze sweeping the country. America is becoming more kind and gentle under the current regime. All hail the current regime in Washington. Everybody must remember the one phrase that all want to hear "Were from the Government, were here to help."

Were all suppose to be armed by the government. It is actually a requirement by the Constitution.

They are all liars, you leaders. For instance there was never a separation between church and state, that is not in the Constitution. It never says that.

And the law was made by the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court does not make anything law or legal, it is VESTED in Congress to make law, not the Supreme Court or the President.

They have all VIOLATED sacred oaths to it's citizens. Is it no wonder we are in danger from within and without.

We are repeating what our Hebrew ancestors did in the OT. One story after another, defy God, sin, violence, corruption destruction and enemy invasion.

God said the those that hate us will rule over you.

This happened in Australia. All guns were confiscated there years ago. I think you can only have a shotgun if you belong to a shooting club and the ammo and gun(s) have to be stored separately. A hand gun would be out of the question.

    • Disgusted

Maybe everyone there should join a shooting club. Shotguns will do, as long as they let them load them.
Did they have that many shootings in Australia before they took the guns away?

    • cactus

Not as many as they have today. You see the bad guys didn't turn their guns in. Funny things, crooks don't seem to obey the law.

    • catman

NO!!! This whole gun confiscatiion thing was caused by ONE mental case shooting up a group several years ago. After that, the wimps in the Australian government went like crazed lions to a flock of sheep to outlaw firearms . The same damn thing happened in England. The same ATTEMPT is made every time some "loonie" here in the U.S. decides he or she is God or hears voices or is just a malcontent or wack job.
Let ALL people who wish to be armed be armed per the second amendment. When a loonybin takes out a gun and starts shooting, he/she wouldn't last very long.
There is a true incident that happened not too long ago about a robber who went into a bar and tried to hold the patrons up. He pulled his gun and numerous cops in plain clothes pulled theirs. He lasted a heartbeat longer. The bar was one where off duty cops hung out. Lesson learned the hard way. Loony was dead.

I will not live in any country that does not allow citizens to be fully armed.

WHY? The Chinese know what country the citizens have no weapons. You guys are easy pick'ns once they take the military out. The police are not a worry to Chinese military. The citizens? All shooting ducks, rapes and guys will just stripped naked and made to watch.

How do I know??? Easy the Chinese do not allow their own citizens weapons and look at what they to do them.

Look at Brazil too. Only the criminals have guns and the crime rate thece is out of this world.

Police arrival rarely stops a home invasion, or any other violent act...we cannot expect police to coincidentally be on the scene to protect us. Only the weak, the naive, and the anti-gun crowd believes police can protect them against violent crime..when seconds matter, our own stance will determine the outcome..police arrive to make a report.

    • catman

"When seconds count the Police are only minutes away".
Average response time to a 911 call is 23 minutes. The response time for a .357 is 1400 feet per second.

  • ARMYOF69

THAT..is one reason why we need to be armed. The OTHER reason is to remove a TYRANNICAL government .....soon.

  • jayaref

Makes me even sicker to think that some of our 'leaders' think this situation will go away once they confiscate all of our guns!

If the poor old lady survives, someone buy her a 12 ga or 38 special with a few lessons and I bet she will shoot the next robber right in the head, no doubt. Everyone should have personal protection and you better get it soon. I always carry and my gun goes to bed with me at night.

    • ixnay00

a shotgun would probably knock the little lady down and even a 38 miight have too much kick. i took my mother out shooting with my 22 knowing that she is fragile at 82 years old and wouldn't be able to handle a medium or large gun. she hit the target 4 times out of 60 at 10 feet but at least a 22 might scare a burgler off if they knew someone was willing to pull the trigger and might get lucky.

    • http://www.facebook.com/daniel.drawe Daniel Drawe

Nice suggestion Peter as ALL guns have been made illegal to possess in Australia with an automatic 10-year prison sentence. That's why criminals in Australia invade homes with no fear of being shot by a homeowner defending his/her property. If guns are outlawed in America, home invasion will dramatically rise here too.

    • cactus

Brisbane is in Australia. The Aussies confiscated all the guns several years ago. Their violent crime rate has nearly doubled since then.

  • tthan43

makes me sick to think of that sort of thing.

Good article Gordan! I am an East Texas country resident,
here a person has to take some responsibility for their family and personal
safety. It can take up to a couple hours
to get any help from the law here. Neighbors help watch out for neighbors here
and firearms are plentiful, but so are thieves. There was a time many years
past when we didn’t even lock our house doors, but no more. Thieves are very
mobile today, they can drive out of the city fifty miles away to rip you off,
but most thievery is tied to drug use right here in our own area. Through experience
with thieves I have a good fence, with a locking gate around my house, inside I
have two large dogs. This will not stop determined thieves but will make your
house a hard enough target that the thieves will go find an easier target. Keep
your toys, tool chests, riding lawn mowers and boat motors out of sight as much
as possible from the sight of thieves. This is a hard reality that faces
everyone today with so many people stealing for their drug habits, lack of good
jobs, a declining economy and a general decay of morals in America. Be alert and make sure every menber of your family knows what and how to operate in a emerency.
