Former chair of the White House National Economic Council in the Obama administration Larry Summers suggested that Barack Obama will eventually begin to tax and regulate junk food in order to push people to eat healthy.
On MSNBC's Morning Joe (Yes, I know there aren't many people watching, but you should know what your enemy is up to) Summers said,
“I think there is no question that the way Americans eat and what Americans weigh is a big contributor to health problems and it’s a big contributor to health costs. It’s not the agenda now, but I think at some point you’re going to see tax measures and regulatory measures that are going to be directed at helping people be healthier. That’s just going to happen and I think it’s probably a good thing when it does.”
He likened the agenda against junk food to that of the anti-cigarette policies, saying "Just as we have over time done things with respect to tobacco that are very constructive and that are saving hundreds of thousands of people’s lives, that kind of agenda is going to come to other aspects of public health, including the way people eat."
It doesn't seem that either Obama or Summers cared much for Mrs. Obama's nutty health food promotion in public schools, though Summers tips a hat to it, sort of.“Should kids be going hungry at lunch because they can’t have any good food — any food they like in the schools?” he asked rhetorically. “You can obviously take it too far and you have to be careful.”
Again, I'll simply ask, where in the Constitution is the federal government given authority to tell me or my children what we can or cannot eat? Drink? Smoke? Sorry big government types. It's not in there. So they will do what the Constitution gives them power to do and that is tax and legislate. This is why we need people in office that are liberty minded, not tyrannically minded. As the movie Spider-man so aptly put it: "With great power comes great responsibility." Those in Washington have great power. They just need to learn to be responsible with it.
I've come to the conclusion if socialists on both the right and left spent more time focusing on what they were supposed to actually be doing at the federal level under the Constitution, they probably would be in Washington, D.C. a maximum of two months out of the year, if that, but apparently many, including Barack Obama and his wife have taken the role of "Big Brother" a bit too seriously. I can see they day when Snickers, Skittles and Reese's Cups will be considered contraband, all thanks to Barack Hussein Obama (mmm, mmm, mmm).
