Romney Campaign Sues To Extend Military Voting

militaryGOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney’s campaign has filed a lawsuit in Wisconsin, asking a federal judge to extend the deadline for absentee ballots for both military and civilians overseas by five days. The campaign alleges that Wisconsin officials were late in sending out the absentee ballots.

The campaign didn’t stop with Wisconsin though. They also sent letters to election officials in Mississippi and Vermont demanding that the deadline be extended.

The letters sent out on behalf of Romney by former U.S. Veterans Affairs Secretary Anthony Principi allege that the deadline for sending out the ballots missed the targeted date of September 22.

Federal law requires that absentee ballots e sent out to military and oversea voters by September 22 and returned by November 9.

Romney campaign spokesman Ryan Williams said, “We want to ensure that our fighting men and women overseas have the right to vote in the time that is given under federal law. We’re doing it across the country in both red states and blue state and battleground states.”

The Green Bay Press Gazette reports,

In Wisconsin, 27 municipalities missed the deadline for various reasons to send ballots to a total of 44 military and overseas voters, said Reid Magney, spokesman for the state Government Accountability Board, which handles elections. All 44 ballots were sent to the affected voters within five days of the missed deadline, Magney said.

Hinds County election officials have said the deadline was missed for just 13 voters but they have all since received their ballots electronically.

In the Vermont letter, Principi said 53 municipalities sent ballots late.

The campaign has also copied the Justice Department on its letters claiming that if the DOJ doesn’t bring legal action, the campaign will. I’m guessing the Romney campaign will have to bring the legal action itself as we all know how biased the Obama DOJ is.

The Democrats are playing the same game as they did in 2004. Al Gore went to court trying to stop the Overseas military ballots from being counted in Florida. He lost that battle in court and the result was the overseas ballots were heavily in favor of Bush and where the vote was close up to that point, Bush won by a few thousand votes.
They claim to this day that the Governor of Florida at that time fixed the election. If anything, Gore was given several chances to change the vote when he demanded and received a recount only in those counties that were majority registered Democrats. He lost that as well and in fact lost votes in the recount. The recount was observed by Independent officials in the recount. He then went to the Supreme Court on this and lost that battle as well.
Those hanging chads went to Gore most of the time because those counting them were declaring this even when both Gore and Bush were punched on the ballot. I watched this on TV and saw this happening as they showed the ballots up close and in a few cases, there was nothing punched for either candidate but it went to Gore since the voter voted Democrat otherwise and they assumed a vote for Gore.
The Democrats will never squander an opportunity to steal an election and this is just a rehash of their old tricks.

A VERY reliable person in MN tracked her son’s primary vote. He down loaded that absentee form and ballot, filled them out and mailed them 3 weeks BEFORE the primary. The appropriate County Auditor recorded the receipt of his ballot 3 weeks AFTER the primary was done. Yes, he was deplayed in Irag, but 6 WEEKS to get an envelope very clearly marked to get through the mail channels.
The military an download the appropriate ballot. The military personnel can mail their ballots to a family member who will then submit it for them. This process has been verified for legality, at least in MN. Check, asap, with your state if that is legal.

Good for Romney! Of all people, the members of the military who risk their lives to protect our rights should be first to have their votes be counted! Thanks to all of you who have served or are serving in our military currently!
