White House Misses Deadline For ‘Fiscal Cliff’ Report

The White House, via spokesman Jay Carney on Air Force One, told reporters that it would miss the legal deadline to deliver its report to Congress on the spending cuts from sequestration that are scheduled to take effect in 2013.

The Hill reports,

Under the terms of the Sequestration Transparency Act signed in August, President Obama was to tell Congress by Friday how the administration plans to implement the $109 billion in automatic cuts mandated by the Budget Control Act.

The Office of Management and Budget has repeatedly failed to make legal deadlines. It delivered its presidential budget proposals and mid-session updates late both this year and last year.

Republicans have tried to tie the tardiness to the failure of the Senate to pass a budget resolution for the last three years.

Stephen Miller, a spokesman for Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL), said, “”Like the [Sen. Harry] Reid majority, the White House has shown astonishingly little regard for budget law in this time of crisis.”

Sen. John Thune (R-SD), who was an author of the transparency bill, took a shot at the delayed report claiming that the administration “seems to think it is above the law.”

“Americans of all stripes are required to play by the rules and follow the laws of the land. Unfortunately, by disregarding the sequestration reporting deadline, the Obama administration seems to think it is above the lawm” he said. “The American people deserve to know the president’s plan for implementing these cuts, some of which our military leaders have said will compromise our nation’s ability to protect itself.”

House Speaker John Boehner also released a statement calling on Obama put forth his plans to carry out spending cuts.

“The sequester originated from this White House, yet it refuses to level with the American people about the devastating impact it will have on our country,” Boehner said. “By proposing the sequester, the president put his own election campaign ahead of the interests of the country. He has a responsibility and legal obligation to tell the American people how he plans to implement, or replace, these devastating cuts.”

“House Republicans have passed legislation to protect our troops by replacing the sequester with common-sense spending cuts and reforms,” Boehner continued. If the president and Senate Democratic leaders summon the courage to put forth a concrete plan to replace these cuts there’s no reason we can’t work together to resolve this issue quickly. But doing nothing is shameful and irresponsible.”

GOP presidential nominee Mitt Romney issued a statement on the delay saying, “The American people have had enough of evasion and enough of finger pointing. They just want answers. Secretary of Defense Panetta has said these cuts will be devastating to our national security and our economy. It’s time the President stops stonewalling, stops dismantling our military, and starts providing answers.”

The White House has yet to comment following the opposition’s statements.

Obama is at least consistent. He has stonewalled uncomfortable questions since the beginning of his candidacy, and – BEHOLD! – he still is stonewalling. During the previous comapaign debates, he would blithely ignore challenges and proceed with his prepared campaign speeches. Stonewalling. This is his modus operandi, and we can never expect a straight answer from this shifty devil. Thanks to the Republicans for at least trying to hold his feet to the fire; but it is going to take more than that. It is going to require Americans taking off the blinders, realizing what this megalomaniac is doing to our country, and voting him out of office. I sincerely hope that those who voted him in will not be ashamed to change their previous vote – Americans are very trusting folks, and like to give anyone the benefit of the doubt. That is a generous, good trait. But after four years, now there is NO doubt. This president is wrong for America.

You don’t really expect him to take time out from campaigning to meet the requirements of some stinking law passed by a do nothing congress, do you?

Since he isn’t obeying the law, begin Impeachment proceedings for dereliction of duties. Publicly challenge Reid to implement the process, and when he declines he makes himself an accomplice.
    Two birds at once.

Constant stalling on everything until after the election. Then the fools that fall for his obvious BS will be screaming, but by their ignorance and blind support to Obama, they are hurting us all.

Barrack Obama does not plan on giving a Budget now or ever he jest plans on spending money and if he falls short for his wife’s needs he will raise another tax so she can go spend more. If the country needs something it is to bad because once he gets his second term he will cut off the food stamps or anything else that will give him more to spend.

If coming up with a budget is any indicator, I don’t think deadlines mean much to these Marxists.

much like their following the laws and the Constitution to them it is just a suggestion and not to be followed as we have seen them do with great regularity

All the signs of not caring about laws or Congress. Uhmmm, wonder why? I think we the people know. It’s Congress, the press and Republicans that don’t. Or are playing dumb and are part of it.

What deadline? The One acknowledges no “deadlines”. The One simply “IS”. Foolish slaves…

The continuing lawlessness of the Obama administration will only increase in both quantity and seriousness unless and until the other two branches responsible for upholding the Constitution DO THEIR JOB. Obama MUST BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE!
Sadly, John Boehner, Speaker of the House, Mitch McConnell, Minority Leader in the Senate, and worst of all, John Roberts, the Early Warren like Chief Justice of the Supreme Court seem completely unwilling and certainly inept at meeting their Constitutional responsibilities!
The Executive Branch has run amok, without any limits on their actions.
We are in a world of hurt. Imagine just how “flexible” Obama will be if he is re-elected!!!
