Michelle Obama kicked off the Democrat National Convention in Charlotte, North Carolina on Tuesday with a masterfully delivered speech. Now don’t get me wrong here. It was flawless in the execution and delivery. Even those of us as conservatives will give her that. The problem though with the speech is she doesn’t believe a word of it. On top of that there is an insulting of one’s intelligence as to what she was asking us to believe.
The part of her speech that everyone can agree on was the following:
I’ve seen it in teachers in a near-bankrupt school district who vowed to keep teaching without pay. I’ve seen it in people who become heroes at a moment’s notice, diving into harm’s way to save others; flying across the country to put out a fire; driving for hours to bail out a flooded town.
And I’ve seen it in our men and women in uniform and our proud military families. In wounded warriors who tell me they’re not just going to walk again, they’re going to run, and they’re going to run marathons. (Applause.) In the young man blinded by a bomb in Afghanistan who said, simply, “I’d give my eyes 100 times again to have the chance to do what I have done and what I can still do.”
Every day, the people I meet inspire me. Every day, they make me proud. Every day, they remind me how blessed we are to live in the greatest nation on Earth.
All of these things we all have seen and know this is part of why we cherish the America we love. However, it was what followed that just sickened me as I listened to her.
See, our life before moving to Washington was filled with simple joys — Saturdays at soccer games, Sundays at Grandma’s house, and a date night for Barack and me was either dinner or a movie, because as an exhausted mom, I couldn’t stay awake for both. (Laughter.)
And the truth is, I loved the life we had built for our girls, and I deeply loved the man I had built that life with — and I didn’t want that to change if he became President. (Applause.) I loved Barack just the way he was.
You see, even back then, when Barack was a senator and a presidential candidate, to me, he was still the guy who picked me up for our dates in a car that was so rusted out, I could actually see the pavement going by in a hole in the passenger side door. (Laughter.) He was the guy whose proudest possession was a coffee table he’d found in a dumpster, and whose only pair of decent shoes was a half size too small. (Laughter.)
But, see, when Barack started telling me about his family -– see, now, that’s when I knew I had found a kindred spirit, someone whose values and upbringing were so much like mine.
You see, Barack and I were both raised by families who didn’t have much in the way of money or material possessions but who had given us something far more valuable — their unconditional love, their unflinching sacrifice, and the chance to go places they had never imagined for themselves.
You see she expects us to believe that young Barack Obama was poor, so poor that his most prized possession was a piece of furniture out of the garbage dumpster! His shoes were a half size too small? Really? Why? Did he get those from the garbage dumpster too? His car was rusted out?
Ladies and gentlemen, Barack Obama was employed by a law firm at the time that he and Michelle began dating. He was not poor and penniless. In fact, Michelle claims that she claims to be part of a family much like his. However, what she isn’t telling you is that her father who she claims was a “pump operator at the city water plant” made about $55,000 a year. Now that may not sound like a lot of money to people today, but in today’s money that’s close to $300,000 a year! That’s good money. It’s far from dirt poor.
Neither of the Obama’s struggled. They were taken very good care of and for over a decade now they’ve been on the government dole. They’ve been paid by tax payers. Sure, there were some books deals and things of that nature for Barack Obama. However, when it all comes down to it, his paycheck is mainly from the American tax payer.
More insults to the American intelligence were offered, but then she spoke of what they learned. Mrs. Obama declared that during that time, she declared:
Like so many American families, our families weren’t asking for much. They (the Obama’s families) didn’t begrudge anyone else’s success or care that others had much more than they did — in fact, they admired it. They simply believed in that fundamental American promise that, even if you don’t start out with much, if you work hard and do what you’re supposed to do, you should be able to build a decent life for yourself and an even better life for your kids and grand kids. That’s how they raised us. That’s what we learned from their example.
We learned about dignity and decency — that how hard you work matters more than how much you make; that helping others means more than just getting ahead yourself. We learned about honesty and integrity — that the truth matters that you don’t take shortcuts or play by your own set of rules; and success doesn’t count unless you earn it fair and square. We learned about gratitude and humility — that so many people had a hand in our success, from the teachers who inspired us to the janitors who kept our school clean. And we were taught to value everyone’s contribution and treat everyone with respect.
Those are the values that Barack and I — and so many of you — are trying to pass on to our own children. That’s who we are.
OK, seriously, she expected us to believe that they learned dignity and decency…. that the truth matters. Really Mrs. Obama? Then why has your husband constantly shunned all of those values? Why has he constantly lied about others and sunk to such depths that he would allow a commercial to air that accused his opponent of being the reason a women died of cancer? That isn’t integrity. It isn’t decent. It certainly isn’t truthful. It’s degeneracy!
Second, if your families didn’t begrudge people for their success or having more than others did, why do you and your husband chastise those that have and are successful? Why do you do this? It’s because you didn’t’ learn these things.
Third, it seems that you are contradicting your own husband, who stated that business owners didn’t build their businesses all by themselves. You state, “even if you don’t start out with much, if you work hard and do what you’re supposed to do, you should be able to build a decent life for yourself and an even better life for your kids and grand kids.”
Even conservative talk show host Rush Limbaugh got it and went further to point out how the Obamas were just trying to try and let the American people know they “feel their pain” as Obama talked about how Barack stayed up at night “pouring over letters” and not believing that people were in such a mess. She said that he would read them to her and exclaimed that they had to keep doing what they were doing to help the people, while all the while implementing policies that were causing such desperation in Americans.
In the end, Michelle Obama merely patronized the American people. While she will fool some of them, she will not fool all of us.
If Mrs. Obama had believed half of the things she said on Tuesday, it would be bearable, but she doesn’t. Sadly there were many people in America who were moved with emotion rather than listening with their ears and engaged with their minds in all of this. They will be the ones duped, but not the public that is awake.
while she spoke of Americans’ greatness, she fails to believe it. She fails to believe it so much that she would look the American people in the eye and openly lie to them, thinking that they would be so gullible as to believe her.
