Taxpayers Billed $100 Billion For Corporate Welfare in 2012

moneyCorporate welfare programs instituted by the Obama administration are costing American taxpayers billions of dollars and they are getting nothing in return, except the bill. According to the CATO Institute corporate welfare has cost taxpayers $100 billion this past year alone.

It gets worse though. While a huge percentage of the Obama $800 billion in stimulus went to failed “green energy” companies like Solyndra, now it seems to be spreading throughout various federal agencies.

According to Cato, the most spending on “corporate welfare” programs in the federal budget — more than $25 billion — went to the U.S. Department of Agriculture.

A majority of the department’s farm subsidies go to the largest farms, the report noted.

The Department of Energy is responsible for nearly $18 billion in corporate welfare in FY 2012.

Other programs to make the list: the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD)’s Community Development Block Grant program ($285 million); the Commerce Department’s Broadband Technology Opportunities Program ($2.2 billion); attempts by Transportation Department policymakers to develop a high-speed rail network ($1.2 billion) and the Interior Department’s Bureau of Land Management ($1.4 billion) land-use programs.

Daily I find articles for Dr. Gary North at TeaPartyEconomist.com and I’m always running across wasteful government spending. Nowhere is it more evident than in the corporate welfare area. Billions are spent every year to prop up failing companies and businesses that can’t survive.

Sadly both presumptive nominees in this year’s elections are not without taint in this issue. Obama has given nearly a trillion dollars away in corporate welfare and intends to provide more, while the company Romney worked for received millions in government subsidies for companies they bought, which then were turned into profits for the company.

Understand, I’m all for capitalism, but true capitalism. I’m not for businesses profiting at the expense of the taxpayer. If they are investing their own money that is fine and dandy. But when they want to dip in the public treasury, that’s when they have crossed the line. It’s why I oppose stadiums and arenas built at taxpayer expense only to turn around and charge enormous prices for parking, tickets, food and other stuff to those same taxpayers.

The government claims these companies are “too big to fail,” but I ask the government, “Aren’t the American taxpayers too big to fail? Let corporations that can’t make it on their own fail. If they don’t know how to budget and market themselves to be competitive someone else will come along and take their place. If the American taxpayer is failed by their government, there is no one to take our place.

Karl Marx was the “father of green energy.” He would be proud of Obama and that Obama is continuing his dream of making America into a Socialist nation.

GOD HELP US. This administration is totally out of control.

That is not fair! Long ago, I decided to shut down my business because of few customers buy but I never ask government for help. Obama is wrong to giving fail business.

Even after almost four years i still find it hard to believe America had so many ignorant voters in 2008. It is past time to do our own research and stop listening to and watching the corporate controlled new media.

    • http://twitter.com/USAREWE WE USARE

What choice did we have in 2008? You think we’d be in any better position with McCain and the ditz in office? It doesn’t matter who you vote for, the same people are still in power. The POTUS is merely the public mouth piece. Voting is important, locally, but the national elections are a farce, they’re a laughable side show of moral cripples and deviant psychopaths.

We MUST find a primary challenger for Mittens in 2016 right now. Don’t wait!

The first big lie:” they are too big to fail” that is totally and completely Bull. If a company cannot survive on its own merits it is not up to the government is taxpayer money to bail them out. Their business not a charity any of the businesses is a necessity someone will step in and fill the gap. That’s why America works if you work and builders a stable company selling a quality product or service you shouldn’t fail. If you do it’s your own fault for doing something wrong so don’t come crying to the taxpayer and say bail me out that shouldn’t happen. This green energy boondoggle promoted by the fake president Dirty Diaper Head Obama, dramatically points out how stupid these bailouts really are it was nothing more to repayment of the debt that the company paid to Obama. If a company fails it fails it will be replaced. It is not government job to artificially resuscitate them.
