Ron, Rand and Rowdy Occupiers

ron paul with rand meanI was surprised last week, when I received an e-mail from Dave Gallagher, Romney Field Director for the state of Nevada, in which he said, “I wanted to bring attention to the U.S. Rep. Ron Paul tribute video that is being shown at the Republican National Convention next Tuesday night. The Ron Paul campaign approached the Mitt Romney campaign with the video, and the Romney campaign was happy to air it to the entire convention.” He then went on to quote another campaign adviser, “Gov. Romney and Congressman Paul, while they certainly disagree on many issues, but if you watched the debates this year, you have seen a lot of mutual respect between the two of them.

This raised the question, did Paul’s campaign truly approach the RNC? Ron Paul has never been known to curry favor with anyone. Last night on the national convention floor, Paul campaign adviser Doug Wead, told me personally, “The RNC approached Paul for the video.”

Why is it important to know who approached whom? Because most feel that in the two weeks of this convention, the former filled with meetings whose results have divided the party (some think beyond repair), and a convention where a goodly portion of delegates were disenfranchised, that the video was a goodwill gesture that could mend fences. But that dog just won’t hunt with the Paul crowd, as well as republicans who look kindly upon the liberty delegates for the Constitutional conservativism they have brought to the party. A mere video of Dr. Paul could not undo the damage.

The Tampa Bay Times forum was almost full Wednesday night, when the convention opened with a four minute tribute to Ron Paul. His liberty delegates stood during the video, and called out his name when the image of a long, lonely road, winding towards a distant light, filled the jumbotrons, and myriad of screens around the hall.

The video, an edit done from the introductory documentary shown at Paul’s festival at Tampa’s Sundome last Sunday, was expertly done. It included the charming story told by his wife Carol, of his original reasons for entering into politics, taking an absence from his practice as an OB/GYN. It then segued to tributes from Senator Mitch McConnell, who opined about members of Congress, “They’re either here to make a point, or here to make a difference. Ron Paul has made a difference.” Senator Mike Lee and Congressmen Jimmy Duncan, Justin Amash, and Walter Jones contributed glowing remarks. Jim DeMint added, “He’s not afraid of anything and standing for what is right” Paul’s son, Senator Rand Paul remarked, “The lobbyists don’t even come by his office.”

When the lights came up, Paulists roared their approval, many held Ron Paul signs aloft, myself included. But, as had happened yesterday, we had our signs taken away from us by the RNC’s floor gestapo. Right across the aisle from my Nevada delegation, sat Kentucky. They were all equipped with favorite son Rand’s signs, which were entirely approved on the floor, but not his fathers’. So sad, to have that sanction, for a man whom many felt was the better candidate, and who could bring our country together and save it economically, and in every other way, just by following our Constitution.

While Ron Paul’s video was enthusiastically received by over half of the convention, his son Rand was greeted with almost manic applause. It was almost as if relief swept over the delegation that they’d gotten the “elephant” out of the room, and now a sigh of relief could be made. Son = Good, while Dad = Bad.

Liberty delegates didn’t stand for Rand as they did for his father. They listened, but as I said to a reporter, “When Ron Paul speaks, whether you like him or not, he evokes a response.” Rand was just another speaker in the RNC’s line-up of political celebrities to fill convention time. In actuality, delegates are just stand-ins to fill the hall in the RNC’s scripted convention, as the corrupt rules changes that were passed this week proved.

Even Rand’s father and mother weren’t there in the hall to hear their son’s speech. They’d departed for Texas a day ago, but were stopped on the tarmac when their private plane was delayed by an extensive TSA search. Things actually got quite tense, as the search was endangering Carol Paul, who wears a pacemaker. It was ironic, that Paul, an outspoken opponent of the TSA, and severely criticized the group in his Tampa festival speech, received this treatment.

During the newspaper interview I did after Rand’s speech, I’d also expressed my disappointment that Rand had not referenced his father more completely. I feel, as many do, that Rand owes his meteoric political success to the supporters of his father, who were dismayed when he endorsed Romney months ago. An hour later, in talking with a Texas liberty delegate, I learned that on the plane to Tampa, Rand had told a fellow passenger that he had agreed to the RNC’s orders not to say, “Ron Paul,” or “my father,” in his speech. He joked that they hadn’t told him that he couldn’t say, “Congressman from Texas,” or “My sons’ grandfather, so that’s how I’m going to do my little dig at the RNC ‘cause they didn’t say I couldn’t say those things.”

Whether you think Rand just shouldn’t have taken the speaking slot, rather than agreeing to not make outright references to his father, most would agree that the stipulations made by the RNC are simply idiotic and disrespectful to the son of the esteemed Congressman from Texas, Ron Paul. My feelings about Rand going light on his father in his speech changed after that.

After Rand’s speech, we had no reason to stay at the convention, and I gave my delegate badge to our party Secretary, so he could pass it on to a delegate, who would then be allowed access to the floor. Nevada’s delegation is a sharply divided camp now of those who think we committed a travesty with our nominating votes for Paul, and others who think we struck a note for being able to vote one’s conscience, which is supported by an RNC rule (which will probably be changed in short order, or made moot by the new rules for delegate selection).

After Rand spoke and I was visiting with other delegates on the floor, I heard a commotion upstairs on the mezzanine. Was there a demonstration? It was hard to tell, and the stairs leading up were packed with traffic. There was no way to get up there quickly. Later I learned that Maine’s delegation had staged a demonstration, and made a complete circuit of the convention center chanting, “So goes Maine, So goes the Country!” The Credentials Committee had ruled last Saturday, that the decision by the state party’s executive committee to replace half of their duly elected delegation with hand picked delegates did not violate any rules, and had allowed these “picked” delegates seating. Maine will be remembered.

Even at 11pm, Tampa is muggy and hot. We were tired, and our feet sore as we walked the many blocks to where our car was parked outside the perimeter. National Guard, and security of every stripe are en masse everywhere. A group of heavily armed troops passed us, and the call, “Watch your back!” echoed through them. We looked around – nothing. Rounding a corner, the street suddenly went quiet. There’s very little vehicular traffic in the perimeter area, but it’s still noisy. There was a rush, kind of like what you feel before an earthquake, and a wave of reporters, photographers and other media came running backwards towards us. Behind them was a tangle of 1% signs and Occupy Tampa protesters. With drums banging, and bullhorns blaring they raged about Romney, tax cheaters, the war, and the rich who were running our country. But what were their solutions? I heard none.

As they paused in the middle of the intersection, surrounded by over a hundred security on foot, bicycles and horseback, I stepped into their midst and started talking about freedom, liberty, sound money and Ron Paul. They objected and told me this was their protest and I couldn’t talk about Ron Paul. He was a republican, they spat. I countered that this as a public street, and that they would not step on my First Amendment right. What started as a verbal altercation, began to evolve into a dialogue, and even though my voice was hoarse from shouting so much in the hall, it was still able to carry to everyone on that street. Still, the Occupy leader did not want to hear anything that had to do with the Republican party in a positive way. He ordered his crew to lay on the street, which I guess was some kind of power move, but to me was ridiculous. I extolled them,

“Get up! Don’t let society step on you! If all of you had registered Republican and voted for Ron Paul in your primary or caucus, we’d be nominating him in that hall this week, and ending the wars, ending the IRS, ending the Fed, having sound money, and instead, Mitt Romney is getting the nomination!”

Occupy thought that was the most absurd thing they’d ever heard, and responded, “How?”

I gave the short version of how we’d taken over the Republican Party in Nevada, and how they could do the same in their own state. How elections are decided by small percentages, and that trying to accomplish their goals through a third party was next to impossible.” Believe it or not, they listened. Security asked them to move on, and I extended my hand to their leader, “No harm, no foul?” He took my hand and pulled me into a hug.”Come with us!” I demurred and said I had places to go and no car of my own.

Around us, the bike and mounted police actually smiled, and with a wave, I called, “Happy Trails” to the police on horseback. They responded, “Good bye, Cynthia!” I guess someone had read my name badge and transmitted the information to them.

We continued our walk to our car, but once again marveled that every day at this convention has been filled with surprises. What’s not a surprise, is that the message of liberty is popular – with everyone.

I am proud of Cynthia and now understand what she was doing in the middle of the unruly crowd surrounded by rings within the war zone (free speech zone) law enforcement and military swat team types. I was frightened for her, not worried by the occupiers who I too was readily converting as our “team” videoed these young people but by the military types who seemed not to remember KENT STATE. It took only one agent to create what I will never forget….yes, I am an older elephant and never forgot.

I shouted out things like: 2 feet gooooood……4 feet baaaaaaad and got some of the older ones laughing…..or I remember Kent State and other things to try to lighten the air. We LIBERTY delegates were doing our best to try to stop another horrible incident.

What Cynthia did was prophetic and perhaps these wonderful young youth will join the LIBERTY movement because we all love this planet.

LOVE is what the R3VOLution has and the love of human beings and soul is what has kept the movement going. We get thrown to the ground (like the occupiers were doing) but we keep getting up like our forefathers. Why? Because America is worth it.

I was also proud to see that the New York Angles were standing around to help people and I appreciated their presence as well as the OATHKEEPERS who were dispersed throughout the Convention and the crowds.

    Thank you all!

This is an absolute truth for me.  I cannot vote for a man who stands with false prophets.  Joe Smith was exactly that.  Jesus said in the Bible that He would not return until the end.  I will not stand with a man who says Jesus did not mean what He said.  That would be endorsing a false prophet.  For all of you who call yourselves Christians, there is more at stake here than just an election, it is the very essence of your faith.  This is one you better think real hard about, maybe even consult the Bible.

I will write in Ron Paul’s name in the 2012 election.

I would rather have the election at stake than my faith.

  • Jmortensen

Ron Paul strongly and admirably supports numerous constitutional principles, however his position many other things are questionable or unsupportable by most people.

The sad thing is that as a “spoiler” he will be credited for an Obama win and not as a patriot.

I’m leaving the GOP. The Republican/Democrat Parties are nothing but criminal syndicates, a duopoly of big government, disenfranchisement and corruption. They neglect their responsibility to represent the will and interests of the People. Everyone should leave the Demopublican parties by changing voter registration to “Blank” and start a new party called the Ron Paul Party.

    • getridofO

I say thank God the Progressive old political hack is gone.  Ron Paul Party indeed.  He sure was reall good in bringing home the pork though.

Why don’t these Paul people stop whining?…Paul got nearly 200 delegates…Romney got over 4000…why would any Paul supporter think they deserved more delegates than he actually received?…none of the other candidates threw a fit to have their delegates counted, just the rude Paul supporters that tried to interrupt the convention delegate count for everyone…Paul had a few good ideas but he certainly didn’t have much support from the general public…that isn’t the “peoples” fault, that was Paul’s fault. Ron Paul has an over inflated ego that he is right and everyone else is wrong!…the Paul groupies are nothing more than the hippie movement we saw back in the 60′s…now, go back home to your little flower gardens and stop with the crying…the election is over…we have a county to save so it’s time to grow up and do the right thing…

@voterid: We are definitely going to do the right thing: We are going to vote for a Republican congress and Senate to curb Obama, and vote our conscience for president: We will write-in for Ron Paul. Until I saw the affront to freedom and to the “little guy” (grass roots movements) levied at the RNC, I was somewhat considering voting for Romney. But, when Romney quashes freedom before he even gets the nomination, he cannot have my vote. And, had I still had any doubts about my presidential choice , the nasty out-of-touch comments about Ron Paul on this web site would have quashed my vote for Romney. My vote goes to freedom, not heavy handed totalitarian candidates or government.

    • getridofO

Go right ahead and write in Ron Paul.  You may as well be voting for Obama.  You are a bunch of whining sniveling traitors to this country.  And the old political hack enjoys every minute of the divisivness he has fostered from you paul loonies.  I find you to be a despicable bunch of sore losers who are just helping to bring this country down.  Romney was not my choice.  Gingrich was my choice.  He was gentle  man enough to release his delegates and support the nominee.  This is something the lowlife Ron Paul doesn’t have the decency to do.  Obama must be ousted from the WH.  He is the single most destructive force in this nation.  You sniveling sore losers and just plain awful.

    • WesSeid

hahaha, big-government progressive Romney wasn’t your choice… big-government progressive Gingrich was your choice.  hahaha.

Patriot Act, NDAA indefinite detention, bailouts, military interventionism, TSA, gun grabber… yeah, Mitt’s awesome.

    • soupson10

No, you are the traitor.  Ron Paul stands for the Constitution.  Romney stands for nothing.  Ron Paul delegates could not be released, they would not go.

    • getridofO

Ron Paul is a political hack who has you believing he stands for the Constitution he has violated his whole career.  You make excuses for this liar and he enjoys every minute of your adulation.  Ron Paul is a Progressive divider just like Obama.  So when you use the word traitor, take a good look in the mirror.

    • getridofO

Traitors all of you.  Take that vile old goat Ron Paul and stick him where the sun don’t shine.

    • WesSeid

      Ron Paul: “Follow the Constitution.”

neocon sheep: “Ron and his crazy ideas!”

    • WesSeid

Paul supporters expected Paul to have more delegates because he DID have more delegates until the RNC stole them away.  Look at Maine… you think they walked out of the convention and the governor of Maine protested the convention for no reason?

Hell, Paul was even going to get nominated from the floor by six states, but then the RNC changed the rules to require eight states to stop them.  That’s why Nevada named those six states during the roll call vote.

Open your eyes to the RNC corruption in front of you.  Read “How the Republican Party Stole the Nomination from Ron Paul,” and watch “RNC 2012 Sham” video.  It also seems strange how Boehner’s teleprompter said “the ayes have it.”

The RNC jammed through new rules this year to screw over everyone next time, not just Paul supporters. But you probably don’t care.

    • voterid

You’re right, I don’t care. Ron Paul did not have the support of the people…but you probably don’t care about that either. You (Paulies) believe that it was only the RNC that stopped your nomination..no that’s not true…if the people of the United States really wanted Paul as a presidential candidate they would have voted for him…and they didn’t…so stop crying on my shoulder and the shoulder’s of the majority of the US citizens that didn’t vote for Paul…we could see Ron Paul for who he really is, not what you want to believe he is..go on with your life…life isn’t always fair but the rest of us has gone past that night and it’s too bad you refuse to accept that Ron Paul was not wanted (by the masses) to represent our country… Holding a grudge only injures those that do…in that sense your cause is no different than any other politicians that has caused great divide between people just for an ego trip. Face it, why would a man almost 80 years old hold onto a failed dream but for only the fame it temporarily gives him.. .believe me your protests were heard loud and clear…that’s all you can do and now it’s time to more forward…it isn’t that hard, put one foot in the front of the other..so no, I don’t care about all your cries and loud voices…all of us have been disappointed with laws and rules that seem to be against us…and besides, do you really believe that being nominated would have gotten him the votes of the total delegates?.Oh yes, you say it’s the principle of the thing..well it may be but I say..thank God this man has retired…

    • guest

Spoken like a true biased bigot. If they had been fair, and not scared, they would have allowed it to play out on the floor and let it be decided the way the rules dictated instead of changing the rules on the spot to prevent it.Right stolen on the spot, and people are too stupid or blind to see or do anything about it.

    • WesSeid

You don’t care about honest elections, you don’t care about rules, and you don’t care about the Constitution or what the United States is all about.  Duly noted.

It’s not “holding a grudge” to fight tyranny and lawlessness.

There will come a time, in the future, when you look back on this moment and realize, “Wow, Ron Paul Was Right.”

I actually gained a better respect for Rand Paul after hearing his speach!
It would be very difficult for a person having to see his own fathers disappointment at being defeated again!
Rand however took the high road and gave American a speach featuring what is right with the US and that we can again hold our heads up and quit being embarrassed by our leaderships actions and words!

    • getridofO

No reply button to WesSeid  so I will reply here.  America rejected Progressive Paul.  Get over it.  You are a traitor if you write in Paul’s name and as guilty of treason as the DNC.  Your mindset will keep Comrade Obama in power.  And RP loves all this adulation because all he really cares about is his ego.  Now get lost, you and your ilk are a national disgrace.

    • guest

There is NO obligation to vote for a selected RNC candidate for office, and no one has obligated his or her vote to Romney,so there is no traitor.Americans are free to vote for whomever they choose,so stop with the traitor crap and quit your babbling child.

    • getridofO

Anyone who writes in Ron Paul knowing he cannot win is taking votes away from the Republican candidate and thus helping Obama.  So you do what you please. I still count you among the traitors to America.  Shame on you.  You and the rest of your ilk are disgraceful individuals and so is Ron Paul who loves to divide as much as Obama.

Ron’s son Rand has endorsed Romney. I only hope that will encourage some disgruntled Paulbots to unite against Obama behind Romney, rather than inadvertently help the dog-eatin’ Kenyan to a 2nd term. We need to put our political differences aside for the sake of America.

I note that Romney recently picked up on Ron Paul’s idea of auditing the Fed. Maybe Ron and Rand’s conferring with Romney bore fruit. In most ways Ron Paul is on the same page with Romney. Surely when it comes to abortion. And Romney has already demonstrated that he knows how to balance a budget WITHOUT raising taxes:

  • http://www.facebook.com/christopher.collins.712 Christopher Collins

A couple of words. One, Ron Paul tried 3 times and has lost all three times. He also never got above 14% in total votes.

I am not a Paul supporter and never have been. But I need to say one thing.

The problem RP had is of how many of his supporters acted. I have been on the end of some really bad rap but many I have come in contact with online and offline.

If the supporters of Ron Paul had acted mature and not bash left and right against us Republicans and Conservatives, they may have made some headway. But many did not.

Attitude means something. If people act like idiots and like a bunch of liberals, well, you won’t get much respect. Challenge us with bad attitudes, rudeness, name calling, threats, intimidation, and so on, well you get what you all got.

Approach is important as well. To say that none of us Republicans/Conservatives do not care about liberty, the Constitution is completely false. As a Veteran, I despised being called  a traitor and by many who have not even served this nation of ours.

Again, attitude makes all the difference. Lesson learned or not? The choice is there.

    • http://FrontPorchPolitics.com/ Tim Brown

I agree about attitude Chris. Maybe the RNC could have used this talk as well this election cycle.

Unfortunately there is no reply button for Raf.  You are just a typical paulbot.  He knew full well about the newsletters and even signed many of them.  He is a liar and he knows it.  His foreign policy is more Progressive than Obama’s.  He has absolutely nada understanding of the Middle East mindset and does not have a clue that Islam wants to subjugate the world under Sharia Law under threat of beheading.  Your denial of this fact is absolutely ridiculous and proves you are just as out of touch with reality as Paul is.  And Mr. Constitution absolutely knows earmarks are a violation of Art. 1 Sect 8 of the Constitution, yet he continually sticks them in bills and votes no.  He is a dishones hypocrite.  Legalizing drugs proves his stupidity and yours.  Sorry you are so brainwashed by this politcal hack who is just as vile as Obama in his lying and manipulative maneuvers.  The only reason this political hack kept his seat is because he is #4 in pork production.  That’s why his nickname is Porkulus Paul.  America rejected this man and you people act like a bunch of spoiled brats who cannot have their way.  They heard him and dismissed him for the leftist he really is, whether you like hearing it or not.

    • Rakafanten

We meet again Mr. Ad Hominem! In my last post I asked you to bring a real argument. Unfortunately you did not. Well, actually you brought one, but it was totally flawed:

      - “And Mr. Constitution absolutely knows earmarks are a violation of Art. 1 Sect 8 of the Constitution, yet he continually sticks them in bills and votes no.  He is a dishones hypocrite.”

This is utter nonsense. The Congress is required to earmark ALL spending, according to the US Constitution Article 1 Section 9; “No Money shall be drawn from the Treasury, but in Consequence of Appropriations made by Law; and a regular Statement and Account of the Receipts and Expenditures of all public Money shall be published from time to time.”

Wikipedia says the following: “In the United States legislative appropriations process, Congress is required, by the limits specified under Article I, Section 9 of the United States Constitution, to pass legislation directing all appropriations of money drawn from the US Treasury This provides Congress with the power to earmark funds it appropriates to be spent on specific named projects.”

Article 1 Section 8, witch you refer to, contains nothing about appropriations or earmarks. So that was a total swing and a miss.

The rest of your well formulated answer goes much like this: “paulbot, liar, nada understanding, does not have a clue, absolutely ridiculous, out of touch with reality, dishones (sic), hypocrite, stupidity, brainwashed, political hack, just as vile as Obama, lying and manipulative, political hack , Porkulus Paul, spoiled brats, leftist”. And then som rambling about extreme islam, witch in the real world is so marginalized that it is irrelevant. The only thing capable of making this a real issue is continued American imperialism. If you have a real desire to learn, read the book “Blowback”, by Chalmers Johnson: http://www.amazon.com/Blowback-Second-Edition-Consequences-American/dp/0805075593/ref=cm_lmf_tit_3 It will be the best 10 bucks you have ever spent.

You have no real arguments, you use personal attacks, and you have rendered yourself useless as a debater.

      Good luck in life.

    • getridofO

The Washington Post recently published a report on how members of Congress used earmarks to apparently benefit themselves. According to the story… (http://wapo.st/AuMfyZ)* 33 members directed more than $300 million in earmarks and other public works spending near their own properties and businesses, increasing the value of their own property* 16 members sent tax dollars to companies, colleges, or community programs where their spouses, children, or parents work as salaried employees or serve on boards. But that’s just a smidgeon. In 2010 there were 11,320 total earmarks worth $32 billion. That’s the equivalent of mugging my family for $300!Is using earmarks for personal financial gain corrupt? Of course. Is using earmarks to “bring jobs to the District” and buy votes corrupt? Definitely. But these outcomes are to be expected, because the REAL corruption is your refusal to follow the Constitution. After all, EVERY bill with earmarks must be passed by a majority in both the House and the Senate. If you just upheld your oath of office, we would be taxed lightly and the budget could be easily balanced. The limited, enumerated powers of Article I, Section 8 of the Constitution are there for a reason. It lists what Congress CAN do. The Tenth Amendment is also there for a reason. It says Congress CAN’T do anything except what the Constitution authorizes it to do.I’ve looked in the Constitution, and I see NO delegation of power to Congress or the Executive Branch to give some communities…* bike lanes* bus terminals* “scenic byways”* traffic circlesAre these things useful to the communities that receive them? Maybe. But if states or local communities wouldn’t have built them without federal dollars, then they weren’t a high priority. Where does the Constitution allow Congress to meddle in local decision-making? Why am I being required to pay for them? Perhaps $32 billion for earmarks doesn’t sound like much in an era of $4 trillion budget and $1.5 trillion deficits. But they are indicative of the larger problem. Building bike lanes for preferred constituents demonstrates that Congress that knows no restraint — including the limitations of the Constitution. That’s why it’s not surprising that Congress has…* bankrupted the nation by providing pensions and healthcare for retirees,* weakened the nation with undeclared wars and foreign aid,* told us what foods and drugs we are “permitted” to ingest,* and authorized the President and military to kidnap anybody with the NDAA indefinite detention provisions.None of these things were authorized by the Constitution. NDAA clearly violates it. If Congress can’t follow the Constitution on the little things like earmarks, I’m not surprised that you don’t follow it on the big things.Uphold your oath of office. Follow the Constitution. That means, don’t authorize earmarks and other pork-barrel spending. Just stop the petty meddling and vote buying you’re doing with my money.

    • getridofO

And the blowback nonsense is strictly a figment of Ron Paul ant the paulbots imagination and other idiots without any understanding of the Middle East.

@Christopher Collins: How could you possibly make the statement you just make regarding Ron Paul supporters? Is it possible that you never read the comments sections after articles? Ron Paul supporters have been honest, but polite. It is rare to view the comments without seeing Ron Paul being called a “wacko” and worse. The dishonesty of the calumny found in the usual comments is profoundly disgusting, as is your comment. Ron Paul consistently exhibits excellent verbal reasoning and near flawless logic. To call this man who doggedly stands up for constitutional  government and freedom a wacko is unpardonable and so is your comment.

    • getridofO

What you call flawless logic, I call insanity.  Mr. Constitution dishonestly has brought home the pork for 25 lackluster years in Congress, knowing it is unconstitutional to stick earmarks in bills.   He supports abortion as a states right.  He wants to legalize drugs.  He writes racist and Antisemitic newsletters and then denies an culpability.  He called Bradley Manning and hero and blames us for 9/11 proving he has absolutely no idea of the international agenda of Islam.  Ron Paul is a treasonous pile of trash.  I am glad he will be gone and down in the annals of history as a national disgrace.

      It is no wonder that you don´t like Ron Paul. This is because you, sir, have got nearly all of your facts wrong. Let me answer you point by point;

      - “What you call flawless logic, I call insanity.”

You can call it whatever you want, but for anyone to take you seriously, you have to bring some kind of argument, or at least point out where he is wrong in his logic.

-”Mr. Constitution dishonestly has brought home the pork for 25 lackluster years in Congress, knowing it is unconstitutional to stick earmarks in bills. ”

It is the Congress that is supposed to “control the purse” and allocate spending. It is the blank appropriations bills that are unconstitutional, as they transfer the control over spending to the executive branch. Congressman Paul votes against these appropriation bills, but also recognizes the fact that it is the taxpayers money, and he tries to bring as much of it as possible back to his constituents. In the end, it is their money. The alternative is the executive branch, and the President, deciding where to spend the money.

      - “He supports abortion as a states right.”

He opposes abortion personally, and only recognize the fact that the US Congress, and the federal government in general, should not have power over individual decisions in this matters. And to cite the tenth amendment to the US Constitution: `The powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited by it to the States, are reserved to the States respectively, or to the people.`

      - “He wants to legalize drugs.”

Yes, he wants to legalize freedom, and thereby drugs. Criminal gangs feed of the drug war, as they make huge amounts of money on illegal drugs. These criminals would not be nearly as powerful without the drug cash-flow. The NY gangsters of the twenties came about as a predictable result of alcohol prohibition, and todays problems are much the same. Ron Paul recognizes this, and wants to end the prosecution of all non-violent offenders. He thinks people should be able to make mistakes, without ending up behind bars for the best part of their lives.

      - “He writes racist and Antisemitic newsletters and then denies an culpability.”

He has not written anything racist that I am aware of. The newsletters you are talking about are (in the first place 20 years old, and) not written by him, but under his name, and he has taken responsibility for not reading everything that came out with his name on it, and made it clear that these are not his views. If this becomes your only reason for not supporting the man,  you should sit down and read all the books and articles he has actually written, instead of spewing out nonsensical accusations of racism on the part of Ron Paul with absolutely no sources or references.

      - “He called Bradley Manning and hero”

And many agree that telling the truth is good, while executing wars on the back of secret agendas and alliances is bad.

      - “…and blames us for 9/11 proving he has absolutely no idea of the international agenda of Islam.”

As he has said numerous times; he does not blame “us” for 9/11. He blames the American foreign policy of interventionism that leads to anger and resentment towards the intervening country. Islam (and religion in general for that matter) is used by a few to harness that anger, and to direct it towards what they see as a Christian crusade.

Regarding foreign policy, Ron Paul says it like Thomas Jefferson did; Peace, commerce, and honest friendship with all nations – entangling alliances with none.

      - “Ron Paul is a treasonous pile of trash.  I am glad he will be gone and down in the annals of history as a national disgrace.”

Ron Paul is a great statesman, an excellent scholar, and a good human being. I am sad to see him leaving Congress, though I am extremely optimistic about the movement he has created with his unwavering and relentless belief in freedom and individual liberty.

    • darkcyder

Polite? You must be joking Heaven forbid I should say my opinion about Ron Paul on any forum. Any comments to the negative about RP borough immediate negative attacks. Firrst, we are called idiots, non-patriots, undereducated uninformed morons, and I could go on. In fact, just go through this very forum and see the resoponses of Paulbots.  Just for making the mistake of sharing an opinion. So, instead, we decided to quietly depart the room and let our voice be heard at the primary booth. Don’t you find it odd that Ron Paul didn’t get a very high percentage even in his own state? My nephew once was a page for Ron Paul as a summer job. He says that he did not return the next year because of the rabid cult-like attitude of his followers.

    • http://www.facebook.com/christopher.collins.712 Christopher Collins

Exactly. If what you say or in my case, what I say verbally and in writing was not 110% on RP’s side, then out came the gloves by many of these so-called liberty-loving supporters. You’re correct, it was like a cult…reminded me of who the Obummer supporters acted in 2008.

    • http://www.facebook.com/christopher.collins.712 Christopher Collins

That is completely false. I have been on the receiving end of the so-called politeness from many RP supporters and many of them have zero clue of what they are talking about. Several were seniors in high school or college students who haven’t even seen the real world yet where I have and yet, I was verbally spit on. At the same time, RP did zero about it. I do get around, I do read and I also report GOP news. Only about 25% or so were ever polite. The rest were a bunch of whining babies. I got so tired of hearing many of them (Several weren’t even born or in diapers when I served my nation against the U.S.S.R. ) tell me I don’t know the Constitution not to mention that I’m a traitor along with other insulting comments and name calling. I say, “polite” by whose definition?

    • guest

You sure do babble a lot.I’m interested, when did you serve your nation against the U.S.S.R.?Where were you and what branch were you in?You brought it up,explain so you can get the respect you want so badly.

    • Piltdown911

Republicans/Conservatives - that is an oxymoron. If the Republican’s today were to be compared to JFK, they would make him look like an extreme right-wing radical. Constitutionalism = conservatism, and Romney is severely lacking.

    • Stormkiller

Cry in your oatmeal,  stay home or go Vote for Obama, either you will be helping Oh What A Mistake return to the WH…

    • Piltdown911

You forgot my third option, I could vote for Romney and get Obama’s clone in the WH.

    • getridofO

Thanks Chris, nicely put.  One of their favorite appellations is neocon.  I find the paulbots outrageously rude and contentious and act just like the left.  I have absolutely no respect for Ron Paul becasue he has fostered this type of behavior.  I find him a very despicable individual.

    • Bill Weston

You don’t negotiate in an alley fight. If the “paulbots” are rude and contentious, it is because they are standing on principles that ARE offensive to liberals and principles that cannot be compromised any further.

    • getridofO

Ron Paul’s principles are a joke.  You are just as bad as the Obama people.  I am no liberal in any way shape or form.  I happen to think Ron Paul is a joke and a political hack of the highest order.  Now it’s over for him and you sore losers will go out and help Obama finish us off.  I find that a pretty lowdown rotten thing to do and typical of paulbots.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Christine-Kroeker/1239032574 Christine Kroeker

If you get Romney instead of Obama you will be amazed at how little actually changes. Both believe in meddling overseas, especially in the middle east and fighting wars without a Congressional declaration of war. Both believe in using executive orders to get what they want. Most Republicans biggest issue with Obama is Obamacare, but it is modeled after RomneyCare in Massachusetts which Romney refuses to say is bad even though it has failed badly. Romney’s biggest donors are the exact same big banks that supported Obama because they both support cronyism. Four years ago, Democrats projected their hopes and dreams on Obama and used his slogans and generalities to hear what they wanted to hear. This year, Republicans are so desperate to replace Obama, that they are projecting onto Romney what they hope for America. They will be surprised when the truth is much different than their expectations. If Romney is willing to send his lawyer around to unseat elected delegates in order to silence Ron Paul and the liberty movement, then he is willing to silence anyone that doesn’t agree with him. If the RNC is willing to ignore the vote of it’s own delegates and just read the results off of the teleprompter, then do you really think the Republican leadership or Romney care about our well being or just their own power?

    • getridofO

I am so sick and tired of you paul lunatics. He has no chance of winning anything, yet you traitors will write that idiots names in and add a vote for Obama. What part of Communism dont’ you get? Ron Paul is a total political hack and his foreign policy is PROGRESSIVE. The man has no understanding of world affairs and will insured an attack upon us. You fools just don’t want to get it through your heads of how dangerous an old coot he is. America heard his lunacy in the debates and overwhelmingly rejected his ideas. Now you just go right ahead and stick to yoour guns. You are as much a traitor as the people who support Obama.

    • getridofO

Raka  no reply button again.  Now I would like to inform you that I never use profanity.  Second Ron Paul sticks the earmarks in bills and then votes no when he know they will pass.  I find that manipulative and dishonest.  He knows full well what he is doing and plays a game.

    • Rakafanten

Yes. He plays a game called “Getting my taxpayers money back”. I think that is a good thing. And he is totally open on what he is doing, it is not like he’s involved in secret backroom deals.

You think it is dishonest, I look at it as a means to getting the peoples money back out of the hands of the executive branch and the President. He is principled, but also practical.

No, Ron Paul is not perfect, but he really is a good man fighting for the freedom of every individual to be themselves, to make their own path in life, and to say what is on their
mind. And for that I respect him tremendously.

    • getridofO

You just refuse to admit he is blatantly violating the Constitution.  Facts dont phase you paulies a bit do they?  You should really be ashamed of yourself for helping Obama.  You are just another traitor.

    • guest

No reply button,so I will add in here to your comment of 4 hrs ago two up from this post.Your first two sentences were insults and an attack.Your third sentence was a justification for another insult, and last but not lease, your fourth sentence was another justification for your attacks, and an added insult. You bud are batting a thousand, and you are too stupid to understand why you get attacked and ridiculed on the forums you post on.I’m guessing third grade education here.I hope you will read up on Dr. Paul who has accomplished more in a day than you have in your ignorant little lifetime.Go sit on the porch with your dog child.

    • getridofO

Nothing I said was other than the truth.  You people have trouble distinguishing between the truth and an attack. Glad to see he will be gone for good soon.  I do know how to recognize lying and manipulating, something you do not know how to do.

    • guest

You don’t like being called neocon, and in the same breath call Ron Paul supporters paulbots?Isn’t that the pot calling the kettle black? You should maybe look in the mirror when you start pointing your accusing finger.

    • getridofO

You are called paulbots because of your pied piper adulation for a political hack.  No reasoning with you people.  There is a big difference between calling someone a neocon and a paulbot.  And btw your paulloonies began calling people who saw through the old political hack neocons, hence you acquired the name paulbots as in robots.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Christine-Kroeker/1239032574 Christine Kroeker

Now you give 5 more insults while trying to say that people who support Ron Paul are insulting. Ron Paul supporters aren’t about the man, they are about liberty, truth, and principle. They support principles not a man and not a party. After so many years of politicians that ignore their promises and stand for nothing, it is exciting to find a politician (for the first time for many of us) that actually means what he says. It is refreshing. You will see though, that the liberty movement doesn’t end when Ron Paul leaves because it isn’t about the man. I’m sorry that you don’t approve of the moniker neo-con, but some name is needed to differentiate between different groups in the Republican party because many are quite different in what they really believe even if they say they stand for the same thing. Our founders did not believe in being involved in everything happening in the world (no entangling aliances), so there is a need to differentiate between those that think our current military strategy of being involved in everyone’s business, is correct and those that believe we should defend our shores and leave others alone. Although Republicans say they believe in limited and constitutional government, many Republicans (both politiicians & voters) actually want the government safety nets and “protection” while the liberty movement wants freedom over paternal government protection. There are differences that are important. If you prefer a different name for the group that believes as you do, let us know. We’re not attached to a name. We’re just attached to liberty and the constitution.

    • Sue

I believe the word is “stolen” not lost but oh those semantics, eh?

    • getridofO

No the word is he was rejected by the electorate because he is a politcal hack with only you paulbots to support him.

    • Rakafanten

Like you I could not find a reply button, so I will answer here.

Much of what you say are good reasons not to vote for any of these appropriation bills. That is probably why Ron Paul never does.We are all disgusted with the level of federal spending, and if every congress person does like paul, there will be no appropriation bills of this sort.

You have actually made his point. Congrats!

When it comes to the pork, as I said, he sees it this way: The Government uses taxpayers money, and Ron Paul wants to give as much of it as possible back to the people who paid into the system, when it is already being spent anyway.

If you want constitutional government, witch it looks like you are in effect asking for, Ron Paul is the only one who will follow the Constitution to the letter. If you think his interpretation is wrong, you have to clarify your own, for anyone to have a clue what you despise him for.

With Ron Paul you would have a real constitutional republic, as opposed to the democracy, or mob rule, you have today.

No bloated budgets and off the charts federal spending, no indefinite detention, no foreign aid, and no entangeling alliances, just peace and prosperity for all. Or at least that would be the stated goal.

You have come a long way regarding your debating skills. Thank you for the well worded response. Are you sure you did not copy/paste it from somewhere? I could hardly see any profanity or personal attacks.

      Well done, and good night.

    • Bigcam_us

Mr Collins, Thank You for your message. You are absolutely right. I also have been on the receiving end of the RP followers attacks. Dr Paul had to zealously attack the Republican Party, to change the rules at ALL levels to have ANY chance of winning.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HGXUTAEWHEHP54ZLLAVIAGZVOQ STORMKILLER

He never had any chance of winning.

    • guest

Chris,on those forums where you were attacked by the Ron Paul supporters, did you ever take the time to read all of those posts?I bet if you did,you might see their frustration at the way they were attacked and called names first. They all endured the name calling, the media news black out of their candidate, and the slurs and derogatory comments about their candidate.Sorry you got your feelings hurt, but it was a two way street, and all are to blame on both sides of that situation. As a veteran, try not to wear your feelings on your sleeve.

  • RAND_PAUL_TRAITOR

WHAT YOU WITNESSE,  IS A SON…NOW PART OF THE GLOBALIST SCUM ELITE, .COMPLETELY SELLING OUT HIS OWN FATHER!!!  CLEAR AS A BELL!!!

    • http://www.facebook.com/christopher.collins.712 Christopher Collins

Uh no, Rand realized reality. Your attitude that many of us in the GOP despise. Stop whining and change the attitude. You will make strides not alienation.

    • getridofO

What you witnessed is a man who lives in reality and is working to get rid of Obama the scourge on America.  I am sick of your tirades against anyone who sees Ron Paul for the political hack that he is.  You go and write Ron Paul in.  You are just as guilty of treason as the Dem/Communists in that you are supporting the overthrow of our gov’t.  Change does not happen overnight and you are just a dirty rotten saboteur.

  • longshotlouie

    Cynthia,

    Thank you

  • http://twitter.com/debraraes debra steinman

I don’t like Ron Paul. But I was disgusted with the rule changes the RNC bought forth to take away his  delegates, and the freedoms of all Grassroots organizations within the RNC. In doing that, the RNC now becomes what we are fighting against.  The Chicago Mob Corruption needs to stop here and now.

We need to fight for Romney’s election as though this egregious error in the RNC elitists’ corruption did not exist.  And when Romney wins, then we need to fight the corruption bought forth by the RNC, as though Obama never existed.

    • longshotlouie

Ms. Steinman, …. Romney represents that corruption.

They’ve herded the people into two corrals (L and R), and most do not understand that there are not just two choices.

      Just Say No
      to Rombama

    • http://www.facebook.com/christopher.collins.712 Christopher Collins

Say no to Romney and you help reelect Obama. That is the reality.

    • Piltdown911

      So? They are the same.

    • getridofO

You cannot reason with a paulbot.  They are traitors

    • ves

Thank you I agree with your entire statement!
Number one is get rid of obama and Romney is the only one that can pull crossover votes!!!
Then we need to vet all elected officials and hold their feet to the fire!
The rules of the convention need to be cleaned up and some need to be restored!
We need to start hunting for the next president the day after this one is elected and I don’t want to see the same people again!
I want to see more on Walker … Christy …. and others that have a backbone and have shown that they have actually gone toe to toe and won!!!!!
They have to be a NATURAL BORN US CITIZEN!!!

    • darkcyder

And next convention, we’ll jus tchange those rules back to what they should be. It’s not like they’re permanent. He won this round- let’s get him elected, and surround him with so many tea party congressmen, that all he has to sign are regulation-elimination bills.

  • Bob

For the sake of argument lets say Ron was nominated by the Republicans and elected president by the country. How would he end the wars, end the IRS, end the FED and magically make us have sound money. Please explain this to me.

    • guest

Bob,the easiest way to help you understand how and what Ron Paul could turn this country around is to tell you to read three of his books.Liberty Defined,The Revolution a manifesto, and Audit The Fed.He lays out his information very simply and then you will have a look at the man,his love of this country and his constitutional convictions.

    • darkcyder

You miss the point. the president does not have that kind of power. Hew cannot simply END things. Unless, as Obama, he is going to do it by presidential decree. And I do not suppor that fore ANY prsident, even if I like what he is doing. this is exaclty why we need to get Obama out. He thinks the Constitution is simly a nice document, but doesn’t really apply to his kingship. How will you like it when he is allowe dto appoint three more to the SCOTUS? And then he gets them to declare that his kingship is constitutional…

    • guest

That power is called an executive order. Now remember that in a debate,Ron Paul said he didn’t like that power, but would use it to repeal all the previous bad executive orders. He sticks to the constitution  better than anyone in DC,and as President,he would not abuse the executive branch as the previous POTUS’ have done.

    • darkcyder

Well, thankfully, we’ll not hav3e to find out if he would be true to his word. I wondn’t trust him considering the number of pork barrel attachements he did to bills. His only addition to congress, I might add.

    • http://www.facebook.com/people/Sara-Helen-Wilson/1438338380 Sara Helen Wilson

As Commander in Chief, he would simply bring the troops home. He would also have the power to repeal prior, unconstitutional executive orders.

    • http://pulse.yahoo.com/_HGXUTAEWHEHP54ZLLAVIAGZVOQ STORMKILLER

Things that any President could do…

    • Shane

But not things that any President would do…

    • longshotlouie

For the sake of argument, were you unable to perceive a way to accomplish any of those things?

    • Jimmo

Bob, where have you been? You are asking for answers that takes up 20 pages of descriptions and explanations. Google Ron Paul and read. Google ‘end IRS’ and ‘end FED’. For example; we can end the IRS if we simplify the tax code. (as in flat tax!) How many IRS Agents would that system require?

    • http://www.facebook.com/christopher.collins.712 Christopher Collins

In which the Congress does, not the President.

    • http://www.facebook.com/christopher.collins.712 Christopher Collins

RP could not end the FED. Only Congress has that power which is the same with the IRS. That is the reality.

    • harleydavidson

this is in reply to bob.

    • harleydavidson

because of ron paul, the house voted to audit the Federal Reserve. now it’s up to the senate to vote.  you can help by contacting your senators to vote for this audit.  yes, ron paul cannot do this alone, he needs people..and if you don’t help you are part of the problem

    • 1teapartyme2009

Well Bob let me try to tackle that one for you. If our country was knowledgeable enough to elect Ron Paul, chances are there would be more congressmen, and senators  that would back President Paul, all he would have to do is talk to the speaker of the house, and the head of the senate, [forgot his title] tell them what he wanted to get accomplished, sit back and wait to be flooded with the paperwork that would bring freedon, liberty, and prosparity back to the United States of America. this is simplified, but it gets the point across, I hope.

    • getridofO

The country was knowledgable enough after they heard the idiot in the debates.  He made a fool of himself as usual and people rejected him. Why don’t you traitors get that through your thick skulls?  The only thing that Progressive old coot would bring to the US is an attack by the Muslims or any other nation that wanted to subjugate us.  The man is archaic in his thinking and a nasty demagogue to boot.  I used to think he was just a whacko.  Now I see he is as evil and despicable as the left as he helps to keep Obama in office by encouraging traitors like you.  Grow up.

    • 1teapartyme2009

If you had any idea at all of what you are talking about I would take your comments to heart, but by what you have written here you have absolutely NO idea of any kind , so take your own adavice sonny, I have been on this earth for 60 years, and have seen this country steadily go down hill, and finally a man that could turn this contry around, and you call him a wacko???? No sir you are the WACKO, go find your rock and crawl back under it, and have a nice day

    • getridofO

Sorry, but I have 6 years on you and I have seen this country go down hill too with the likes of JFK, LBJ, Carter, Clinton and now Comrade Obama.  Sorry, I couldn’t disagree with you more.  I have been around long enough to recognize a traitor.  Ron Paul is a national disgrace.  A political hack, manipulative politician who is just as divisive and Obama.  He enjoys the adulation he receives from you paulbots and could care less about rescuing our nation from Communism.  Romney was not my choice, but he is the nominee.  We need to get rid of Obama and take control of the Senate to disembowel Harry Reid, Obama’s henchman.  With a Republican majority, Romney will be more to the right than he was in Massachusetts. Obamacare must be flushed down the toilet.  When I hear Ron Paul speak in the debates, I thought he was off his rocker.  Now I see he is just an egomaniacal individual who puts himself above the good of this nation.  But you paulbots go right ahead and write this traitors’ name on the ballot.  You will only be helping Obama.  Ron Paul is a racist, Antisemite Progressive.  You paulbots are so enamored of this guy, you refuse to face the facts about him.

  • http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=100002980905111 Sharon Jones Jeanguenat

Most people in this country do think that liberty is is important, but are not sure how to go about bringing it back. Too many of our politicians have done all they can to get rid of it, unless it pertains to them, & keep passing laws, & rules that only apply to the rest of us. They are exempt from Social Security, Medicare, & now from Obamacare. That’s why those particular programs don’t get fixed. They do not care about any of the rest of us.
