Facebook Approved "Kill Mitt Romney" Page

Apparently, Facebook approved a "Kill Mitt Romney" page that was put up and left up over 17 days. I pointed out that Twitter followed a similar example in the George Zimmerman case a few months ago.

The description for the page indicates its purpose, which is a directly threat on the life of Mitt Romney stating,

“This is a page advocating the murder of Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney.”

What's even more disturbing is the page had 30 likes!

While many users complained about the page and rightly so, all they received was an email stating the following:

Hi,

Thanks for your recent report of a potential violation on Facebook. After reviewing your report, we were not able to confirm that the specific page you reported violates Facebook’s Statement of Rights and Responsibilities.

Learn more about what we do and don’t allow by reviewing the Facebook Community Standards:https://www.facebook.com/communitystandards.

Thanks,
Viki

Give us feedback to let us know how we are doing.

According to Facebook's community standards, users are prohibited from “credibly (threatening) harm to others, or (organizing) acts of real-world violence." The community standards goes on to read:

Safety is Facebook’s top priority. You may not credibly threaten to harm others, or organize acts of real-world violence. We remove content and may escalate to law enforcement when we perceive a genuine risk of physical harm, or a direct threat to public safety. We also prohibit promoting, planning or celebrating any of your actions if they have, or could, result in financial harm to others, including theft and vandalism.

Even as I was researching the issue, the page has been pulled from Facebook. It's previous residence was here. Apparently word got out and hundreds of people flooded Facebook with protests about the page, which apparently drew more than an automated response.

One wonders if things like this will continue Facebook's downward spiral among Wall Street Stocks. One thing is for sure, no one should be threatening anyone's life. It's good Facebook finally pulled the page, even if it took an avalanche of emails reporting it to do so.

I'm not wild about facebook in the first place, now, I'm really not wild about it. Facebook, don't tell me I have notifications ever!

Yeah, and according to SC teacher, talking bad about Obama is an criminal offense, but you can advocate murder on Facebook? Has America gone f*ng insane? Don't piss on my leg and tell me it's raining, Facebook. Just NO.

This is just one of many reasons I do not visit a facebook site and never will. Facebook knows everything about you and you have given them permission to do with it as they please...regardless of their so called private information protection...Bull!! If I were you America I would think long and hard before I placed anything on facebook...no matter what logic you use to do so...I have heard people say..I do it to see my grandchildren, or family and so on and so goes your right to a private life.
I don't like anyone to claim me as one of there family or friends on facebook, and will demand they take any information about me or my family off. The bad that has already been shown on this site is just the tip of the iceburg...people losing jobs for comments made...no freedom of speech on facebook...and everything most place on this site will come back to bite them...and what is sad is people do this of their own free will! Think about the danger of this information about you, your friends where you went to college, where you work, your love life, your family and children and grandchildren...big mistake, big mistake.

And we are surprised that a liberal company would do this because.......?

  • jer1041

The Obama white house probably put the page up. Human life has no value to him.....

Dave the Liberal, I have to agree with the others on FactChecking.org.  It is clearly not "nonpartisan."  I looked at it myself.  They claim Obama never apologised for America.  That's not true at all!  I heard his speeches in other countries and he clearly made apologies.  However, PolitiFact.org is still a possibility.  They were a little down on Obama for not doing so well on keeping his promises and also a little at Mitt for how he talks about Obama.

Maybe more balance on your part would help you see the issues more clearly, too.

I know of a few people who have quite Facebook altogether. They don't miss it at all. It has the ability to cause trouble, especially the privacy issue (very sneaky).

I could not find the Kill Obama page? LOL

Obama doesn't even know what a Cub-Scout is within these '57 States'...let alone a Boy-Scout, Eagle Scout!...Probably thinks it's some mama-bear looking for her cubs!  He doesn't think or act like an American, let alone know how to be our President.  Like Clint Eastwood said last night at the RNC...'TIME FOR HIM TO  STEP ASIDE'....Let's all help him and his American-Hating wife, czars, staff and commie acquaintances go 'a-packing'.

Isn't the responsibility of the US Secret Service to investigate threats like these even for a Presidential candidate?  Why isn't someone at Facebook being arrested for allowing these threats to be posted and continued to stay? What about the originator and the ones who made positive comments about killing our possible future President? This country is not the same anymore since Holden and Obama have been in their current positions! If it does not directly involve either one of them or about blacks forget about it! Extreme social injustices are occurring everyday by this current administration! They deserve every negative response and opinion regarding their lack of leadership! The deserve to be removed this November, by God's will and grace it will be so!

I don't think there is any question that Zuckerman is a fan of Obama and that all you say on Facebook is passed on to him that is derogatory in nature.

I quit Facebook long ago when I found private messages were being answered by people not invited into my group of friends.
