DOJ Official Thomas Perez Refuses To Affirm 1st Amendment Rights


perez videoIn a Constitution Subcommittee hearing yesterday, Congressman Trent Franks (AZ-02) questioned Assistant Attorney General, Thomas Perez, over the Administration’s commitment to 1st Amendment rights. Franks’ questions were prompted by a Daily Caller article from late last year in which Perez was quoted as warmly embracing the proposals of Islamist advocates in a meeting at George Washington University, among them a request for “a legal declaration that U.S. citizens’ criticism of Islam constitutes racial discrimination.”

Perez reportedly ended the meeting with an enthusiastic closing speech and was quoted as saying, “I sat here the entire time, taking notes…I have some very concrete thoughts … in the aftermath of this.”

In yesterday’s hearing, Chairman Franks asked Perez to affirm that the Administration would “never entertain or advance a proposal that criminalizes speech against any religion?” Perez refused to answer.

    It is just amazing that someone in government would even have to ask this question to the Justice Deopartment escpecially in America.     Perez needs to be fired,period,” Ask me the question ,should Perez be fired?” Yes most defiantly yes.Perez must be fired,I get so sick of mealy mouthed lawyers hemming and hawing about what is “is” Shakespeare was right about “Doing In ” the lawyers first. Them and their avoiding direct questions.That’s why when asking questions of a lawyer you slap them upside the head to get their attention first.If you don’t get a straight answer slap them again.

    Frightening. So frightening that there are individual people and groups who are actively and furiously working to undermine America. Many are in our own government and we’re paying them a salary to do it. I pray that America wakes up before it is too late. Why wouldn’t that DOJ employee answer that oh so simple question posed to him? It is not a grey area as he is trying to say it is.
