Sen. Tom Coburn says that “Both parties have equally participated in abandoning the limited role of the federal government.” He argues that both Republicans and Democrats have brought the U.S. to the edge of the fiscal cliff in his new book The Debt Bomb: A Bold Plan to Stop Washington from Bankrupting Our Economy.
ReasonTv’s Nick Gillespie interviewd Sen. Coburn to discuss these issues and what Sen. Coburn thinks needs to be done in order to turn the tide.
Sen. Coburn is the equivalent of Congressman Ron Paul in the House. Known in the Senate as “Dr. No”, Coburn was first elected to the House in 1994. He is a fiscal and social conservative who has been an outspoken critic of members of the House and Senate and government waste.
Coburn claims that the federal budget is riddled with “waste, fraud, and duplication.” He exposes this each year. In 2010 he was instrumental in getting the Government Accountability Office (GAO) to research and document wasteful government programs.
His 2011 “Guide to Some of the Most Wasteful and Low Priority Government Spending of 2011″ Wastebook is his latest exposure of the enormous amount of our money going to utterly meaningless and purposeless frivolities. You can also follow Wastebook via Facebook.
