George Washington Carver, The Bible & The Peanut

peanutsBorn a slave around JULY 12, 1864, George Washington Carver became a scientist of international renown. On January 21, 1921, Carver addressed the United States House Ways and Means Committee on behalf of the United Peanut Growers Association on the use of peanuts to improve Southern economy.

Initially given ten minutes to speak, the committee was so captivated, his time was extended. Explaining the many products derived from the peanut, including milk, mock beef and mock chicken, George Washington Carver stated: “If you go to the first chapter of Genesis, we can interpret very clearly, I think, what God intended when he said ‘Behold, I have given you every herb that bears seed. To you it shall be meat.’ This is what He means about it. It shall be meat. There is everything there to strengthen and nourish and keep the body alive and healthy.”

After nearly two hours, the chairman asked: “Dr. Carver, how did you learn all of these things?”

Carver answered: “From an old book”

“What book?” asked the Chairman.

Carver replied, “The Bible.”

The Chairman inquired, “Does the Bible tell about peanuts?”

“No, Sir” Dr. Carver replied, “It tells about the God who made the peanut. I asked Him to show me what to do with the peanut and He did.”

While I am all for men subitting to the claims of Jesus the Messiah, the Kinsman Redeemer of Israel [Matt. 1:21- 'his people' - Matt. 15:24- only the lost sheep!- not everyone]- I therefore cannot let overt fallacy take the place of true history, or the false belief that Christianity is a ‘universal religion’. Neither are True. Both are falsehoods, masquerading as ‘truth.’

As has been noted:”George Washington Carver and Peanut Butter. George Washington Carver was a black scientist at Tuskegee College in Alabama. While he was a competent educator and would rightly be considered a giant among black scientists, most of what is now attributed to him are fabrications. While Carver did take out a large number of patents, they were all just his own processes for making things that already existed. None of Carver’s patents ever became a commercial success.

The claim that Carver invented peanut butter is possibly the oldest black history myth in America and one of the easiest to disprove. It would take anyone a quick search on Google to disprove it and for that reason black history mythologists have moved away from the peanut butter myth over the past few years and begun claiming that other patents for processes filed by Carver are in fact his inventions.
The truth is that peanut butter was made in various forms in Central America hundreds of years before Carver was ever born. If anyone could be called the “inventor” of peanut butter it would be the Aztec, Mayans, or one of the other cultures in that region. Several patents for commercial peanut butter making processes had already been filed long before Carver first experimented with a peanut.
Numerous commercially successful peanut butter making patents were filed by white Americans and at least one white Canadian in the 1880′s and 1890′s. One of the most important was by J.H. Kellog in 1897. J.H. Kellog has a cereal company named after him today. Carver filed his patent about ten years later and his process was never used in the commercial industry.”

And I’m going to state it right now. “Racism” was a word invented by a jewish communist to deflect criticism from the Russian Christian populace, to halt any criticism of the takeover of a Christian land by the Communists- most of whom in the early days, were jews.
So, don’t throw the ‘r’ word at me. It won’t stick- much like Carver’s failed story about the PB.

WOW! Now I know I have to get a good book about his life. Most of us have heard snippets about him, this brought tears to my eyes reading what this humble man whose 10 minutes turned into 2 hrs. because of his knowledge of what GOD says, not what man says. Beautiful.

G.W.C. a great human; We have much to learn about life from this great, humble, man. He is in the same cemetary as my other hero-Booker T. Washington. Knowledge from The Book, to replace ignorance, and skills for the hands = an asset to oneself, the community, and the Nation.Clothes not important to Carver, who ask that instead of money for a burial suit, spend the money on students.

There was a man of God!!!!. George Washington Carver:If he were here today and ran for president against Obama or anyone ,I would vote for him.>>Men like him had integrity, values, ethics and above all the SPIRITUAL MORALS OF GOD ALMIGHTY.He was not afraid for what he stood-for his FAITH IN GOD.I admire him as one of the greatest men in the USA history.Where are other men like him in this country?very few. Most talk, but do not walk>They talk with their mouths, but not with their hearts/Like the saying,”(white)Man talk with fork tongues.”/He who walks with the a wise man becomes wiser and he who walks with a fool gets harmed.” “The fool said in his heart there is no GOD.”Life is short and one day when you breathe your last breath and stand before God Almighty what will you say to Him or what will HE say to you?Better have the right answer”answer is=John 3:16.You intellectuals who have read all the man made books=have you read the BIBLE ONCE IN YOUR LIFE TIME?CHECK IT OUT BEFORE YOU CHECK OUT OF THIS WORLD AND NOT BE SURPRISED WHO IS WAITING FOR YOU THERE.GOD LOVES US/DO WE?

Thank you, sir. Proverbs 1:7 The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

Peanuts and peanut butter are some of my all-time favorite foods. Moreover, peanuts are the basis of the “Plumpynut” formula that is being used world-wide to save malnourished children from starvation. God bless George Washington Carver!

sorry for the misspellings old laptop with flakey keyboard

Yes but he still had to sit at the back of the bu,s drink only from the colored water fountain and not sit at the whites only counter and if he went to a nice hotel he had to ente through the kitchen door not the front that was for whit folk. And when we remember that, then we realize just how much of a great man he truely was.
PS I’m a white southern male, But I have always tried to look at history from both sides.

    • alio

Garry, I was born a southerner, moved away, then moved back south, age 7-10 yrs and was appalled at the back of bus, separate water fountains, not allowed to eat where we did, etc. At that tender age, I always wanted to fight back for their rights. It disturbed me very much. I couldn’t understand why a black man would step off the curb to let us white girls pass. All my life that bothered me, but we moved back to Cali and very few blacks were around. There was one girl in my H.S. whom I befriended, and all these years later, I think of her.

Forget Martin Luther King. The greatest black man who ever lived was George Washington Carver. Where would the world be without his many uses for peanuts, especially peanut butter? Ask any mother.

Hemp products are readily available for the nutrition of the body, not for poisoning the body with THC and all manner of other pollultants. God punishes those that defile the body.

    Excellent article William. Thank You.

George Washington Carver was and is a role model for ALL Americans however today’s youth are sadly ignorant of him. Unlike today’s “role models” he didn’t use foul language, he didn’t incite violence and racial unrest, he didn’t use drugs or travel with an entourage of gangsters and sluts … he was simply an American agriculturalist, scientist, educator and – this above all – a Christian.

    • exshuttleguy

Perhaps our youth are not seeing enough God in us.

  • Dennis

    Who is wiser than God?

  • guest

Good heavens, you couldn’t say that before congress today, it would be offensive.

Yes you’re right, not only would it be offensive but one would have to tell the offended party how sorry one is for having mentioned God.
