GOP Caving to Dems on Tax Increases

patty murrayDemocrats are threatening to allow nearly $600 billion worth of tax hikes and spending cuts take effect in January unless the Republicans go along with allowing higher taxes for those making more than $250,000 a year. The threat has come to be known as “Taxmageddon,” and it seems the GOP is caving. After all, it’s an election year.

Just what will Taxmageddon do come January 1, 2013? It will begin,

raising rates on investment income, estates and gifts, and earnings at all levels. Overnight, the marriage penalty for joint filers will spring back to life, the value of the child credit will drop from $1,000 to $500, and the rate everyone pays on the first $8,700 of wages will jump from 10 percent to 15 percent.

The Social Security payroll tax will pop back up to 6.2 percent from 4.2 percent under the deal approved Friday by Congress. And new Medicare taxes enacted as part of President Obama’s health-care initiative will for the first time strike high-income households.

Some economists say it could push the fragile U.S. economy back into recession, particularly if automatic cuts to federal agencies, also set for January, are permitted to take effect.

This would basically be a huge blow to every American and the economy should the Democrats raise taxes on everyone, rather than get their way of only giving tax cuts to some and not to others. It is a shameful ploy to threaten the American people with taxes in this manner.

Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) said, in a speech she plans to give on Monday,

“If we can’t get a good deal, a balanced deal that calls on the wealthy to pay their fair share, then I will absolutely continue this debate into 2013.”

My goodness! These dimwitted people up there play with people’s lives like their own is at stake and they think they are doing a service to America. I’m not among the very rich. In fact, I am considered poverty level by the government, though I don’t consider myself poor by any sense. But to say something as asinine as calling “on the wealthy to pay their fair share” just shows why your party’s logo is an ass! The wealthy do pay their fair share. They pay far more than any of the rest of us.

The Washington Post reports,

If the tax cuts from the George W. Bush era expire and taxes go up for everyone, the debate will be reset, Murray is expected to say. “Every proposal will be a tax-cut proposal,” according to the excerpts, and Republicans would no longer be “boxed in” by their pledge not to raise taxes.

But they are boxed in because the taxes will increase on certain people. Not only that but taxes have been increasing over the past two years because of the Obamacare law. Furthermore Ms. Murray plans to say,

“If middle-class families start seeing more money coming out of their paychecks next year, are Republicans really going to stand up and fight for new tax cuts for the rich? Are they going to continue opposing the Democrats’ middle-class tax cut once the slate has been wiped clean? I think they know this would be an untenable political position.”

Again, they have been going up! More money has been taken out of the middle-class. Just remember the tax returns you filed this year.

Murray is expected to claim that “Democrats are willing to compromise. We just need a partner.” The problem is that they are not willing to compromise. They have put out something that is meant to be a political hot potatoe and have no intentions of compromising anything in their proposal.

While it may get the adrenaline going for the Democrats, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) called the position an “outrageous ultimatum.”

“At a moment when the American people are reeling from the slowest recovery in modern times . . . and just five months away from the economic body blow that will result if tax rates spike, as scheduled, on January 1st, the president’s solution is to take more money away from the very business folks we are counting on to create the jobs that we need,” McConnell said in a speech Thursday. “Naturally, Republicans oppose this. The way we see it, nobody should see an income tax hike right now.”

When it comes to compromise Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) said, We were on the record saying we would agree to a conventionally scored tax increase if they would clear out the tax code, make it fairer, flatter and simpler and begin to take us off the road to bankruptcy on entitlements. And they weren’t willing to do it.”

One thing is for sure in all of this and that is that we can see from the statements of Patty Murray just which party actually cares about some bit of fairness across the board when it comes to taxation. The Democrats are more than willing to throw each and every American under the tax bus in order to get their way.

The easiest way to put this is the Democrats are willing to raise taxes on everyone, while the Republicans are trying to advance fair tax cuts for everyone. It appears now that the Democrats are trying to hold America hostage. The question is, will they succeed?

The Republicans Congress should just pass the extension for all income brackets covered under the Bush era cuts and let the Senate or the President be responsible for it.

GOP should cave, that will shut up the Dems who can be then shown as the party which raises taxes and plays hardball. Then when the Senate is on board in Jan 13, the Bush tax cuts can be restored in toto, and the GOP will be the party of lower taxes; especially with the ‘affordable’ care act repealed.

If taxes go up for everyone it will insure Romney gets elected. So bring it on!!!

Did not even read this story. My apologies if the headline
was miss-leading. Cooperating with the script on stage is not what I call caving.
The characters on stage are being entertained by the audience.

Ive got a great idea…lets bring our troops home…from everywhere…let S. Korea deal with the North…Afghanistan can have Karzi and his wastrel ways…Germany doesnt need or want us there..get them all home…and CLOSE OUR BORDERS…period! Cut foreign aid to said countrys and we can use that money to fund the troops when they come home. The only country that gets any aid is Israel…they have always been with us. Then we can start by getting rid of this loser of a POTUS in november. Do you have any idea how much money could/would be saved? Then make these congress critters pay into Social Security and Medicare…how long do you think that these programs would remain insolvent? Hahhaha…yeah…i know..now lets just do it!

We dont have a tax problem…we have a spending problem and the losers in Washington DC just cant keep their hands off our money….get rid of them all!

What is wrong with the Republicans. Can’t they see that they are being bullied with a lot of hot air. So what if the brain dead Patty (who bragged about Osama bin Laden’s building child care facilities in the middle east -NOT) fails to see is that SHE CAN DELAY THE DEBATE AS LONG AS SHE WANTS. When she and the Democrats lose in NOvember, they will have two months of lame duck to pass all they want to pass. Then they will leave and the new Congress will come in AND UNDO ALL THE DAMAGE. LOL. Let them play their game
Then make sure in your campaign adds that NOTHING the Democrats will do to damage the country will stand IF THEY ARE REMOVED FROM OFFICE IN NOVEMBER.
This is all smoke and mirrors. Don’t let them fool you. If we are able to take back our government and start meaningful cuts in socialism and spending, a recovery will START ALMOST IMMEDIATELY.
Will you note that they picked one of the most lacking in intelligence to place their ‘AGENDA” before the American public. Do you suppose there is a reason for that. First she still has 4 years left on her term. She will not face the wrath of the voters. Secondly, when the lack of rational thought is pointed out to the world, they will just look away and let Peppermint Patty look the fool. They know what they are doing.
And there will be a certain minority who are just dumb enough and not capable to discern what is going on who will believe it.
Apparently some of the Republicans are part of this group. How stupid.

  • myrtfox2

I agree with Tonto. The Republicans, I expect and demand, that they will hold their ground. If they cave again, they will be replaced too. Let them all go.

    • LoneRanger

I agree with Tonto…that’s what I always thought, as long as the question was…”Kemosabe wantum…fool around?”

  • dickb38

I think we all agree that balancing the budget and paying down the national debt are laudable goals. Neither Dems or GOP has presented, in my opinion, anything remotely resembling this. Yes, we do spend beyond our means but there is no way reducing spending alone (entitlements, defense, etc.) can achieve this without incurring genuine hardship upon recipients of Social Security, Medicare and Medicaid. You think those riots in Greece, Spain and other countries with financial hardships were bad, wait until you see what happens in the US, especially if the very rich do not share in some of the “pain” by paying higher taxes. And Congress will most likely continue purchasing more outrageously expensive military goodies thanks to all the contributions they receive from lobbyists. A new F-35 fighter, at over a billion dollars a pop will sit in some remote airbase while the same tax dollars could instead be going to hospitals, education and infrastructure. Anyways, that’s my opinion. Just like a**holes, we all have one.

Tax bills except under Bama, are supposed to come through the House. The PUbs will just say NO. But with Smearing Reid and Tennis Shoes Patty, the Dems will try to raise taxes via the Senate; illegally, again. And of course the media will support them and they will try to win the day unless the voters oust the Reid Senate and the naif in the WH.

  • DEfromDC

We need a bill that lets the voters choose. Districts that vote Democrat pay the Democrats tax rates and Republican voting districts pay the Bush tax rates. Wouldn’t that alter the election. Maybe all Republican.

  • despise socialism and Barack

Why r people so stupid as to not realize that a tax increase on ANYONE @ this time is USA suicide! All u Morrons r who think just because u are not effected as directly as the rich….u will not b affected by a drastic tax increase….let it happen and u will regret ur stupidity and hatred for the rich! THE RICH ARE THE JOBS CREATORS! I suppose everyone thinks Barack is going to take care of u and u don’t need a job. we all need to wake up to Obama’s con to rule us or we r doomed!

  • hollygreen9

Patty Murray has fallen off her broom and landed on her head.

  • AZ BOB

Yes those Democrats get voted in yr after yr same with the Rino’s.
They, GOP, need to do what they have to do to get control of the Senate and maintain the House. This can be fixed after the election. After the NEW GOP Congress is in power they can get tax reform, immigration reform, cut Government. With the right Majority they can pretty much control it all.
If you know the Constitution the congress is the most powerful Branch.
That makes them also capable of being the most dishonest.

    • Heywood Jablome

      How much are you offering?
P.S. I offer a steep discount for shooting Republicans!

  • baltzelle

If you stand with them you are no better than they are. Settle for no less than what is good for This Country and its People. We will succeed in November to change to the GOP and then there should be a better vote. Do not give inn to wrong!

The Dems ‘won’t allow those 48% of all Americans who pay no taxes to bear the burden of the other 52% who aren’t paying their fair share’.
IF the Republicans cave, RE-ELECTION will be the LEAST of their worries.!!!!
