GOP Caving to Dems on Tax Increases

Democrats are threatening to allow nearly $600 billion worth of tax hikes and spending cuts take effect in January unless the Republicans go along with allowing higher taxes for those making more than $250,000 a year. The threat has come to be known as “Taxmageddon,” and it seems the GOP is caving. After all, it’s an election year.

Just what will Taxmageddon do come January 1, 2013? It will begin,

raising rates on investment income, estates and gifts, and earnings at all levels. Overnight, the marriage penalty for joint filers will spring back to life, the value of the child credit will drop from $1,000 to $500, and the rate everyone pays on the first $8,700 of wages will jump from 10 percent to 15 percent.

The Social Security payroll tax will pop back up to 6.2 percent from 4.2 percent under the deal approved Friday by Congress. And new Medicare taxes enacted as part of President Obama’s health-care initiative will for the first time strike high-income households.

Some economists say it could push the fragile U.S. economy back into recession, particularly if automatic cuts to federal agencies, also set for January, are permitted to take effect.

This would basically be a huge blow to every American and the economy should the Democrats raise taxes on everyone, rather than get their way of only giving tax cuts to some and not to others. It is a shameful ploy to threaten the American people with taxes in this manner.

Sen. Patty Murray (D-WA) said, in a speech she plans to give on Monday,

“If we can’t get a good deal, a balanced deal that calls on the wealthy to pay their fair share, then I will absolutely continue this debate into 2013.”

My goodness! These dimwitted people up there play with people’s lives like their own is at stake and they think they are doing a service to America. I’m not among the very rich. In fact, I am considered poverty level by the government, though I don’t consider myself poor by any sense. But to say something as asinine as calling “on the wealthy to pay their fair share” just shows why your party’s logo is an ass! The wealthy do pay their fair share. They pay far more than any of the rest of us.

The Washington Post reports,

If the tax cuts from the George W. Bush era expire and taxes go up for everyone, the debate will be reset, Murray is expected to say. “Every proposal will be a tax-cut proposal,” according to the excerpts, and Republicans would no longer be “boxed in” by their pledge not to raise taxes.

But they are boxed in because the taxes will increase on certain people. Not only that but taxes have been increasing over the past two years because of the Obamacare law. Furthermore Ms. Murray plans to say,

“If middle-class families start seeing more money coming out of their paychecks next year, are Republicans really going to stand up and fight for new tax cuts for the rich? Are they going to continue opposing the Democrats’ middle-class tax cut once the slate has been wiped clean? I think they know this would be an untenable political position.”

Again, they have been going up! More money has been taken out of the middle-class. Just remember the tax returns you filed this year.

Murray is expected to claim that “Democrats are willing to compromise. We just need a partner.” The problem is that they are not willing to compromise. They have put out something that is meant to be a political hot potatoe and have no intentions of compromising anything in their proposal.

While it may get the adrenaline going for the Democrats, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) called the position an “outrageous ultimatum.”

“At a moment when the American people are reeling from the slowest recovery in modern times . . . and just five months away from the economic body blow that will result if tax rates spike, as scheduled, on January 1st, the president’s solution is to take more money away from the very business folks we are counting on to create the jobs that we need,” McConnell said in a speech Thursday. “Naturally, Republicans oppose this. The way we see it, nobody should see an income tax hike right now.”

When it comes to compromise Rep. Jeb Hensarling (R-TX) said, We were on the record saying we would agree to a conventionally scored tax increase if they would clear out the tax code, make it fairer, flatter and simpler and begin to take us off the road to bankruptcy on entitlements. And they weren’t willing to do it.”

One thing is for sure in all of this and that is that we can see from the statements of Patty Murray just which party actually cares about some bit of fairness across the board when it comes to taxation. The Democrats are more than willing to throw each and every American under the tax bus in order to get their way.

The easiest way to put this is the Democrats are willing to raise taxes on everyone, while the Republicans are trying to advance fair tax cuts for everyone. It appears now that the Democrats are trying to hold America hostage. The question is, will they succeed?

I don’t mind so much the idea that the rich need to pay their fair share but I detest the strong arm tactics and outright lies the Dems pull to get whatever they want and then cry foul if anyone dare challenge them using their own tactics. Dems stink out loud and I hope enough people realize what total hypocrites they are to turn the tide come election.

    $250,000 A year? I do not consider myself poor. Between my wife and I we have never made more than 38 grand A year and that was A great year for us. On that much money we bought houses, cars, boats and raised 3 kids sending all thru school (K thru 12) and helped each buy houses after their marages. 250,000 would be A wet dream. I know no one that makes that kind of money. Matter of fact I know no one ever in my life that made this kind of money not even the people that I worked for! My brother inlaw made some 65 grand A year and I thought he had it made big time.

    I want to know, what is the abuse issue that it will take to take the People who are fed up with the violations of the public trust, and the politicians “oaths” to uphold and defend the Constitution against all enemies foreign and domestic that is broken with nearly every law that is passed (abusing the rights and sovereignty of the American citizens)…. to take their issue to the next level, whatever that is?
    Is it a march on Washington, or a state by state march on their legislators offices with letters of demand all coordinated in the 50 states?
    Is it filing criminal complaints of Constitutional violations against the People, against most, if not all of Congress, and the Armed Forces, and the DOJ, DHS, and others, for dereliction of duty to their oaths, to protect and defend the AMERICAN citizens, not some President of the US Corporation, or the United Nations command??

    I don’t see most of the people who keep stirring the pot of discontent, doing anything substantive or meaningful, if it interferes with their next meal, or watching their favorite soap opera or American Idol. Heck, most of them haven’t even glanced at the Founding Documents of this country since middle or high school!!

    I think it would behoove us all to have either a national program run by a collective of national broadcasters, radio and television, and cable, of starting with the Articles of Confederation, then the Declaration of Independence, the Bill of Rights and the Constitution FOR the united States of America, the one written before 1867 that was usurped by the current Corporation United States. These should run nightly or daily, for a month, and then follow up with Town Hall meetings across the country. Also could have a national debate on these matters via online or teleconferencing media. That would be harder to do than Town Hall meetings, as it’s too easily manipulated by the panel coordinators and provocateurs. But those media should not be ignored.. it’s where a lot of the people live today, sadly.

    Can you imagine the shock of this exposure to our Founding Documents, and the increase of knowledge and interaction to bring AMERICANS back to their common desire for worth, self respect and freedom? And to then hold those to account who would spit on those who engage this dialog, expose them for the self serving traitors they are, to the national well being and survival of the Republic they were given?

    I can only dream of it… or could we??!

      even a better idea, altho yours would be an improvement over what is now, would be a consumption tax, with the mandatory abolishment of the IRS and the personal income tax. This is the monkey on the back of our national psyche… it throws every single purchase and expenditure into a context of what are it’s tax consequences.. bad or good? Help or hurt? Me or them? Now or later? It puts the GOV’T in charge of our daily lives, and it was deplored by one (among others) of the IRS commissioners back in the ’50′s, as being simply a tool for the gov’t to control or MODIFY the behavior of the Citizens!
      To those who spout off “what is the gov’t going to run on?!”… well, idiots, the gov’t has it’s hand in thousands of cookie jars, with a LONGGG list of TAXES in excises and fees that we have our pockets picked with on a daily basis.

      For a primer on the idea, the FAIRTAX.ORG has some useful overviews, but there are many university and think tank studies on the matter, from where many of their statistics and recommendations are derived. I don’t think we need a 23% tax rate on consumption, as FairTax advocates.. we need to cut the size of gov’t drastically, and make them live within their means, as well as CUT OFF PENSIONS AND LUXURIOUS BENEFITS PACKAGES AND BENEFITS for ALL LEGISLATORS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      THEY ARE OUR SERVANTS, WE ARE NOT THEIR SLAVES!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      Pay them WELL ENOUGH for their terms of service, and give them one extra year of extended pay to transition back to civilian life, and THAT’S THE END OF THE PUBLIC DOLE, SERVANTS!! Also, they should be BANNED from LOBBYING THE LEGISLATURE FOREVER after leaving public service!! This corrupt practice has been proven to affect many of their legislative choices, with paybacks and kickbacks in their pockets AFTER they make beneficial votes for their benefactors and they leave the office!

      But what about people who make more than $10 million a year? Or over a $100 million a year, or over a $1 million, or over $1 billion, or above? Shouldn’t they also be taxed at the same rate; or better yet, a lower rate, since they earn a boatload of money, which they are clever enough to invest into ventures which can be outsourced to the Cayman Islands, thereby avoiding American taxes, even while deriving taxpayer-supplied resources from the American? Jamney.

      Please, let me remind you, that these are the people who have been labeled as “Job Creators,” in spite of all evidence to the contrary. They deserve to be rewarded, financially, out of all proportion, related to merit as to their claim, to the claim that be related to the claims of their political supporters.

    Lets tell Obama to keep his backside in Washington and ground Air Force 1 and that alone would make up most of the tax difference he thinks he will be getting from the wealthy. Put all of Congress and Senate with their staffs on minimum wage along with all the White House Staff and Zars of every color. That is what We The People should demand of all these arrogant elitists in Washington or tell them to go the hell home and don’t come back as we will replace each and every one of them with common sense business men and women from all the 50 States and fix this mess they have created and only make worse!!     “Porkbarrel Patty” Murray campaigned years ago as a “Mom in tennis shoes” who was going to go to DC and represent her state and stop all that government spending and waste. Instead she joined the ranks of top spenders and her promises to cut spending and waste went faster than an Obama promise. Her first year in DC she was rated either #1 or #2 dumbest Senator. If it wasn’t for all the liberal fruits and flakes around Seattle, the rest of the state would have voted her out years ago.
